BIRTHRIGHT OF DUPAGE 608 S. Washington St - Suite 301

Naperville, IL 60540 630-355-9888

Birthright is a non-political Pro-Life organization that serves to lessen the burden for women who find themselves in unplanned, crisis pregnancies. The essence of Birthright is love and compassionate sup-port to women faced with difficult decisions regard-ing the life of their unborn baby. To our clients, we offer friendship along with fetal development educa-tion, crisis/hotline counseling, referrals to commu-nity resources, pregnancy counseling, as well as ma-terial services such as clothing and diapers. Our ser-vices are free and independent of other community service organizations. Birthright receives NO local, state, or federal fund-ing. Amazingly, we operate 100% by volunteer staff. Birthright of DuPage County has absolutely NO paid employees. Unfortunately, at this time, we are facing financial hardship (to cover daily operating costs: rent and phone) that threatens our future presence in the west-ern suburbs of Chicago. Both cash and material do-nations from charitable individuals and groups have dropped significantly this fiscal year. Please prayerfully consider making a donation to Birthright and call 630-355-9888 or co-director Heather at 630-927-1623. We are in need of: CASH donations, Diapers size 1 to 4, Wipes, Clothing and sleepers size 0 to 18 months.

An Experience of Faith for Education Fr. John Klein, pastor, St. Charles Borromeo, Bensenville I sit down to write this bulletin article on a truly joyous day -- the first day of school for Holy Family Catholic School. It is a day of excitement and grace. A new environment, culture and vision are being built as our Principal, staff, children and families come to-gether to build a school that will provide a top quality education to our children that is decidedly Catholic and that will allow our children to grow in their faith and in their knowledge of the world. It has been an exciting time in my life these past ten months. A whirlwind of activity has surrounded me as I have watched, and worked with so many wonderful people from the St. Joseph’s and St. Charles Borromeo’s parish and school communities to take on the challenge of creating an entirely new concept in Catholic education within the Diocese of Joliet. The way in which the different people from our two communities have come together for the good of our children has been amazing. Strangers have put their trust in strangers and they have found, in the end, life long friends. The grace of God has truly been with us. The time has been a bit bittersweet for St. Joseph’s and St. Charles Borromeo’s parish and school communities, with many ups and downs as we have worked to serve the Lord and the people at both locations. There have been many exciting and grace-filled days as well, as we have moved from having two separate schools to one school made up of primary grades in one facility and middle school grades in another. There have also been many difficult days as staff was let go, as parents suffered angst because of an uncertain fu-ture and a crisis of confidence, as we went through the process of hiring a new school principal and fought uphill against a difficult economy and other outside factors to build enrollment in our new school. Nevertheless, we have 154 students enrolled in our new school and will continue to build our enrollment as we continue to build our school in the future. We celebrated the Eucharist as the Holy Family Catholic School community for the first time this past Wednesday and will continue to celebrate the Eucharist at both campuses on Wednesday each week throughout the school year. We will be sharing our Catholic faith with our children, and with their families, in countless ways throughout the year. It is fitting that we will conclude our first year with a con-celebrated Graduation Mass; a mass in which Bishop Sartain will preside. A critical need in every parish is the education of our young people in the faith; an education that must touch their hearts and minds so that they can become aware of the great love that our heavenly Father has for each and everyone of them, and so that, as they grow into adulthood, their Catholic faith becomes an integral part of who they are as human persons and informs every aspect of their lives as they endeavor to live a life of discipleship. We meet this need through both our Religious Education Programs at both parishes (St. Charles Borromeo: led by Mrs. Barbara Nitchman and St. Joseph: led by Mrs. Dolly Matthews) and through Holy Family Catholic School (led by Mrs. Corrine Alimento). I would like to encourage every member of your parish family to support all of our children in all of these wonderful Catholic educa-tional programs. You have the opportunity to volunteer as a catechist in Religious Education, as an adult leader of our Youth Groups, as an aide in our school and you have the opportunity to help needy children through our Adopt-a-Student Program. Please keep all of our children and their families in your prayers.

This year, the Diocese of Joliet is engaged in a strategic planning process for its schools. Ultimately, our plan must reflect the priorities of our parishioners, parents, and staff. Therefore, we need your input through this dio-cese-wide survey. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. To complete this survey online between September 20th and October 4th, simply follow these steps:

1. Go to the website: www.dioceseofjoliet.org 2. Click on Lighting the Path to Our Future Logo. 3. Take the Survey! If you currently have children enrolled in one of our schools, you will receive separate directions to complete a survey specific to that school. It is hoped that a large number of Catholics adults will participate. We sincerely value your time and feedback. We are particularly interested in input from Religious Education parents, parents who formally had their children in Catholic Schools, former Catholic School attendees and grandparents who have or did have grandchildren in Catholic Schools. For a pencil and paper survey please call the Diocesan Catholic Schools Office at 815-838-2181

Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life This week’s Stewardship of Time & Talent Salute

In gratitude of God’s gifts of time and talent to us, we grate-fully acknowledge and salute:

Debbie Lane Who have donated countless hours of hard work, dedication

and devotion to the parish.

Stewardship Thought for the Week Today's second reading warns that a heart consumed with avarice and envy leads to jealousy, strife, conflicts, and disputes. A giving heart, in contrast, can sing instead with the psalmist, "Freely will I offer you sacrifice; I will praise your name, O Lord, for its goodness."
