    Introduction to Credit Rating

A credit rating assesses the credit worthinessof an individual, corporation, or even acountry. Credit ratings are calculated fromfinancial history and current assets andliabilities.A credit rating tells a lender or investor theprobability of the subject being able to payback a loan.

A poor credit rating indicates a high risk ofdefaulting on a loan, and thus leads to highinterest rates.
