First Reading:

You shall know that I am the LORD,

when I open your graves and have you rise from them,

O my people! (Ez 37:13)

Psalm:

With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of re-demption. (Ps 130)

Second Reading:

But if Christ is in you,

although the body is dead because of sin,

the spirit is alive because of righteousness. (Rom 8:10)

Gospel:

Jesus told her,

“I am the resurrection and the life;

whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” (Jn 11:25)

Gospel Reflection:

Are you asleep?

Today Jesus is called to the grave of a dear friend who had recently died. Martha cries out that if Jesus were closer, her brother Lazarus would not have died.

Remember from the First Sunday in Lent that death and sin are connected and that life is seen as living a faith-filled life? That is what is hap-pening in this Gospel. Living as a disciple of Christ can give us the ability for a life everlasting in the presence of God.

What in our lives needs to be uncovered, as Lazarus is unwrapped of his burial clothes and retuned to live with his loved ones?

As we move closer to Easter Sunday, let us ask God to unwrap or unbind that which needs to be healed so that we may live a life that is pleasing to God.

Gospel Reflection

Pastor’s Note – St Henry Parish – Gresham OR – March 18, 2020

Blessings to all parishioners! As we hunker down under the threat of COVID-19, our parish and parishioners

continue to pray for one another and reach out. On March 16, our archbishop canceled all Masses in our par-

ishes. The mandate follows upon a nationwide closure of any venues that gather in excess of 10-25 people.

This is in effect in our archdiocese until April 14th. That means that Holy Week and Easter services are sus-

pended this year.

My note today will list how our parish will respond during this difficult time. To be consistent, all events and

gatherings are canceled. That includes RCIA classes, youth ministry, faith formation, penance service, rentals

and organizations, etc. Our church and parish center and gym will be closed during the duration. To avoid

contracting or spreading the virus, we are suspending care ministry to homes and care facilities. For the time

being, the Ministers of Holy Communion will discontinue the loving practice of bringing communion to the

homebound. We wish to connect with folks through all the electronic media available besides the weekly bul-

letin. The bulletin will be available at a drop box outside the office door. Additionally there will be numerous

messages and updates on Flocknotes, Facebook, Twitter, and our parish website (www.sthenrygresham.org).

Starting March 22nd, there will be a weekly Mass available through our website. Fr. Julio and Fr Charles will

concelebrate Mass and give a weekly message, and will offer spiritual communion for our parishioners. This

will be available for viewers on Sunday each week. Additionally, our vicariate pastors have met to coordinate

best practices.

Here are some bullets relating to this time of “adjustment.”

Our parish office is closed. Clergy and staff will be checking in.

Our church and parish center and gym are closed.

Please call if you have a request or need an appointment. 503-665-9129

During the archbishop’s mandate suspending public Masses, the ripple effect also suspends home

visits for the Ministers of Holy Communion.

Confession times are suspended. Stations of the Cross and Holy Hour are canceled.

The adoration chapel will remain open, but please restrict to three in the chapel at one time.

All areas are sanitized after usage.

Check the parish website for any updates and for the weekly Mass.

Utilities in both the church and parish center and gym, are lowered to a minimum.

We need to limit entry to our buildings. All who have keys to the church and parish center and gym,

are asked to return them. They will be returned when the situation has passed.

The various staff and catechists will connect by phone and electronically with their constituents. That

includes faith formation, RCIA, youth ministry, sacramental preparation, Hispanic ministry groups, lit-

urgy, care ministry, renters, St Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters,

adult education, scripture groups, choirs, etc.

The Thursday Day Shelter and St. Vincent de Paul Pantry will serve boxed food and lunches at the

door.

The economic effects on our parish and families are considerable. Please continue your parish contri-

butions even though we have no Mass or offertory collection.

Vanco is our online giving site. (www.sthenrygresham.org/offertory-support-during-these-difficult-times-1)

Envelopes can be dropped through our office door slot.

Let us walk this road together, much like the disciples on the road with Jesus to Emmaus after

the Resurrection. Let us recognize Jesus in one another, and may we be watchful of one an-

other’s needs. The pope has asked everyone to pause for a moment and say a prayer for

global health. In Christ Jesus, Fr Charles, Fr Julio, Deacons Larry, Deacon Lou and Staff

Mensaje del Párroco – Parroquia St. Henry’s – Gresham, OR – Marzo 18, 2020

Pg 4

Charles, Fr. Julio, Diáconos Larry & Lou y Staff de St. Henry. Fr. Charles Zach

Information on Our Welcome Center

We had a very good turnout for the pre-bid conference at St. Henry on the 12th - and bidders are working diligently on their pricing for a April 2, 2020 due date. At that time, members of the building commit-tee, together with the architect will review all the bids and proposed schedules for the phase 1 project. This will most likely take some time as we reconcile all of the numbers so that the pricing is in com-pliance with the project plans and specifications. Information has been forwarded to all the GC's who are bidding from parishioners who have indicated interest in pro-viding services for the project. The City of Gresham has completed their first round of review on the permit plans. The architect will be responding to all of the questions and returning their comments for a second round of review this coming week. Should you have any questions please contact our Project Manager, David Mastroieni of DDM Con-sulting, Inc. at [email protected].

Something for Lent: Read the entire Gospel of Mark in one sitting. As the shortest Gospel, it is the most concise story of

Jesus’ life, and the cross, a central Lenten symbol, plays an even more prominent role than in the other Gospels.
