    COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed for people with NO ELECTRONICENGINES BACKGROUND and covers THE 3500 B SERIES IN

    GENERATOR SET APPLICATION . Given the high reliance onGeneral electronic engine strategies , systems operations ,programming and troubleshooting procedures. using service tool ET

    and FLASH. EMCP II and ECM inter-actions , CCM will be coveredas well

    COURSE DURATION 4 1/2 Days

    AUDIENCE PROFILE Dealer Technical Communicators , Dealer Service Mechanics and/orElectrician, Service Training Instructors.

    PRE-REQUISITES Attendees should be able to read Caterpillar electrical Schematicand have some knowledge in electrical system fundamentals.Attendees should know how to read voltage signals through astandard CAT Multimeter. Engine system knowledge is required.

    OBJECTIVES Upon completion the student will be able to:

    TODAYS FUEL SYSTEMS AT CATERPILLAR:

    Pump & lines - Mul tiple plunger pump- High pressure fuel l ines- Injection nozzles

    - Limited injection pressure (18.000 PSI)*- Limited injection t iming- Limited injection rate capabilit ies

    MUI - Mainly used on large engines to eliminate the needfor long high pressure lines and the related problems

    inherent with controll ing pressure in these lines.- Requires an additional cam lobe, l ifter, push rodand rocker arm for each cylinder.

    *Current engine emissions and performance requirements demand injectionpressure in excess of 20.000 PSI and greater timing flexibil ity.

    PEEC (Programmable E lectronic Engine Control)

    - ECM takes over of the functions of the mechanicalgovernor.

    - Fuel pump is stil l used.- Throttle l inkage replaced by electronic throttle.- Air fuel ratio control electronically controlled.- Engine is equipped with various sensors for monitoring.

    EUI / MEUI (Mechanical Electronic Unit Injectors )

    - Fuel is metered electronically by means of a solenoidoperated poppet valve.

    - System stil l requires a mechanical valve train toactuate the plunger.(Mechanically actuated , electronically controlled)

    - Fuel transfer pump replaces the "pump & lines".

    HEUI (Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injectors )

    - Plunger movement is not l imited to speed or durationof a cam lobe.

    - Plunger speed is a function of actuation pressure

    versus fuel pumping resistance.(Hydraulically actuated , electronically controlled)- Injection pressure is +20.000 PSI

    ALL ENGINES BUILD STARTING MAY 15, 1996 HAVE THE E-TRIM FEATURE ON THEIRPERSONALITY MODULE AND INJECTORS CODED WITH AN E-TRIM CODE

    THE SOFTWARE COMPENSATES FOR INJECTOR VARIATION IN TIMING AND DISCHARGE.

    THE E-TRIM IS A 4 DIDGIT CODE ETCHED ON THE INJECTOR TAPPET

    WHEN AN INJECTOR IS CHANGED THE NEW INJECTOR'S E-TRIM CODE MUST BEPROGRAMMED . IF THE NEW CODE IS NOT PROGRAMMED THEN THE PREVIOUS CODEIS ASSUMED

    IF AN OLD INJECTOR ( NO E-TRIM CODE ) IS INSTALLED , THEN ENTER THE DEFAULTCODE 1100

    IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO REPROGRAM AN INJECTOR CODE IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE

    WILL NOT BE SEVERELY HARMED , ALTHOUGH IT SHOULD BE REPROGRAMMED AS SOONAS POSSIBLE TO OPTIMIZE ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND PREVENT ANY LONG TERMDETRIMENTAL EFFECTS

    This set point tells thisGSC how to respond to a low engineoil pressure or high coolant temperature fault .They are not diagnostic faults but engine faults.The setting are : 0 - for shutdown
