As you all know, we farewelled our dear Father P ower over the holidays, with prayer and celebrated a faith-filled, 92 years. He was truly an inspiration to us all.  Yesterday, as our children gathered for the beginning of a new term, we remembered Father  Tom and shared this prayer; Lord, we give thanks for Father Power’s gifts, of knowledge and wisdom, and understanding. May we too develop, an open mind, a thirst for knowledge, and a wisdom that we put to good use. Father Power knew, that for a person’s gifts to be put to best use, We must also have love and concern for others. So today we ask that you inspire us, to live in such a way, that we are caring and compassionate, and promote understanding, between people. May we be faithful servants to you as he was.  Amen God Bless Sandra S hamy Welcome back everyone to the third term of 2012. What a great, sunny start and it’s wonderful to see everyone looking refreshed and ready for learning! Parish Priest As you will most likely have heard at Mass last weekend, our new Parish Priest is F r Kevin Wei who is currently PP of Our Lady of the Assumption, Hoon Hay parish. He will be ministering in both parishes. Until a decision is made on Mass times a supply priest will be saying Mass here. Lunch time play As the playing field is likely to be a bit mucky this term, we ask that children who wish to play on it do so in old clothes (including shoes) brought from home. It is not comfortable for the children to return muddy and wet to class after lunch. They will be given time to change back into school uniform. Building work  You will have noticed that our building work for the new classroom and senior toilet block alongside the current Room 6 has begun. The actual building is expected to be brought on site this Saturday with occupancy being from about the middle of September. This will be a fabulous addition for our school. The new shed on the other side of Room 6 is being used for the storage of teaching resources that were previously housed in the resource room in the old block. At this stage, no further word has been given when repairs to the old block will begin. Keep your children safe! Web safety seminar for parents: A great opportunity to hear expert advice about this. Come along to the P arish Centre at 7pm on Wednesday, 22 August. This event has been kindly organised by Rachel Marquet. Thank you, Rachel! Chess We have 6 teams who are keen to battle against other schools in this exciting and skilled competition. The Year 7s and 8s are competing on Friday, 10 August at Medbury School and the Year 4s, 5s and 6s are competing on Thursday, 2 August at Waimairi School.
