May you be pampered!  J ust a reminder too that on Monday, 3 J une, school is closed as it is Queen’s birthday. www.saintpeters.school.nz “Wonderfu l learn inginourCatho liccommun ity” Issue #7 NEWSLETTER 8 May 2013  Pentecost Celebration Day !  The Liturgy team have decided on Wednesday 22 of May to have a ‘Pentecost Day’.  This is to celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the church and is also the national Catholic schools day.  To celebrate this day in style, the team would like all the children and teachers to get dressed up in “hot” Pentecost colours of red, yellow and orange. It may be you only have one red glove or one yellow sock, etc; that would look cool too. Please bring a gold coin donation . The money collected will be going to the Catholic aid agency Caritas.  The day will begin with a Mass. The children will join with the parish in the Parish Centre. There will be a shared lunch. Could all children bring a plate with maybe some of the “ hot colours” incorporated in the food. Red grapes, cheese, oranges. colourful kebabs, colourful club sandwiches /wraps; the possibilities are endless. Each class will share this meal together.  A Pentecost liturgy led by the liturgy team in the parish centre which will be held to conclude the day at 2.15pm. All welcome. As it is Catholic schools day we are going to invite the general public into school to visit classrooms. Kind regards and thank you for your help with this special day. Liturgy Team (Saskia, Luke, Dominic, Kate, Emma, Samantha, Meila and Woo Seung) Trainee teachers We welcome into our school this week Anna Blinkhorne and J ane Clifford who are in room 7 and room 1 respectively for the first part of this term. We hope that they feel at home here and wish them a very successful practicum. Confirmation  This sacrament is available to baptised children this year in our parish. Year 7 and 8 children have been given an application form for this. Uniform During terms 2 and 3 children need to wear our winter school uniform. Details of this are on our website. Playing on the field As wetter and colder weather is encroaching children will need to wear a change of clothes including shoes, when they are playing on the playing field during terms 2 and 3.  This is so that when they are back in class, they are warm, dry and clean. Any old clothes brought to school in a plastic bag is fine so that at lunchtimes children can play on the field when it is open. Children will not be able to play on the field before school or during morning break as there is not enough time to change clothes then. Y our cooperation in this is much appreciated. Pentecost Celebration Day !

Cross CountryWe certainly had a superb day forour school cross country event lastterm. Thank you to so many parentswho managed to come along andcheer the runners, it was awonderful culmination of all the hardwork the children had done in preparing themselves for

the run. The following children have been chosen to represent StPeter's at the Zone Cross Country event on Wednesday22 May at Halswell Quarry:

Rupert Naughton, Dominic Scalia,Erick Carreno-Espinoza, Aidan McCulloch, Kate Davidson,Saskia Dunlop, J uliet O'Connell, J ack Cunniffe,Sebastian Lipp, J ulia Wynands, Connor Smith, J oel Proudfoot and Billie-Rose Dunlop.

We wish them all the best and know that they willrepresent us well.

Bull Rush The ground is finally soft enough meaning we can beginBull Rush again. As with last year this is a Wednesdaylunchtime activity for Years 5-8 only. Children can choosewhether or not they take part although to do so they MUSTbe changed into old clothing, includingshoes. This does not include PE gearas this is needed for PE and fitnessduring the week.

Scholastic Book Club J ust a quick note to say thank you very much for all theorders that came through for the last edition of theScholastic Book Club. As a result of these orders, theschool has received 12 new books for the library.Did you know that the school receives 20% of eachScholastic Book Club order in credit? We are adding newbooks to our shelves constantly thanks to you! Please keepyour orders coming, the kids love taking home new booksevery week.

Sushi WednesdaysWe need your help!Saluka Thiele has been organizing this with the help of  J ovanka Rarm on alternate weeks. Huge thanks to themboth! Saluka is no longer able to do this due to workcommitments so J ovanka needs someone to help outevery other week. It involves collecting the orders andmoney from 8.30am, taking these to the sushi shoparound the corner at the Beckenham shops on Colombo

Street, picking up the orders anytime between 11-12.30and delivering to school and then returning the emptydelivery box later in the day. If you can help, please letKay or me know. Thank you!

Please note, we now require parents to supply thecorrect money in sealed envelopes with ch ild’sname/s, the required order and amount enclosedwritten on the outside. This makes the volunteer sushi job much easier. Thankyou for your assistance.
