Foot Clinic

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Jeff Matzke• Organizations: Community Based Residential Facilities, Senior Centers, Brown County

Aging Center, and Community Resource Centers• Learning activity: Nursing students provided foot care at community nursing homes and/or homes

for clients who were unable to do it themselves or could not afford to have it done.An overall assessment of the feet was done, and referrals were made as necessary.

Breast Cancer Family Foundation T-Shirt design

• Division: Business and Information Technology Instructor: Mary Sue Fenner• Organization: Breast Cancer Family Foundation• Learning activity: Marketing and Graphic Communication students designed “breast cancer”

t-shirt for the Breast Cancer Family Foundation bike ride.• Number served: Many NWTC students involved in project: 12

Vision Screening

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor/s: Health Sciences Faculty• Organization: Prevent Blindness of NE Wisconsin• Learning activity: Nursing students conducted vision screenings at daycare centers or special events in the

community. Findings were given to the Prevent Blindness organization for appropriatefollow-up.

• Number served: 180 NWTC students involved in project: 40

Preschool Vision Screening

• Division: Workplace Learning Services Instructor: Jean Goodwin• Organization: Prevent Blindness of NE Wisconsin• Learning activity: Nursing students tested preschoolers at Marinette/Peshtigo Headstart and other area

clinics for acuity and stereopsis. Eight students were referred to Prevent Blindnessof NE Wisconsin for follow-up.

Boys & Girls ClubSealant Program

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Sheila Gross• Organizations: Boys & Girls Club of GB, Brown County Health Dept.• Learning activity: Dental students provided dental screenings, dental sealants, and fluoride varnish

treatments to low-income children between 11 – 13 years of age.• Number served: 59 NWTC students involved in project: 19

Presentation on Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Contraception

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Lori Juza, RN MSN• Organizations: Alternative High School students, Brown County Jail, and various Urgent Cares• Learning activity: Nursing students presented the topic as a practicum

for learning content from Nursing Health Promotion.• Number served: 35 NWTC students involved in project: 2

Diabetes Prevention in the Menominee Tribal School

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Carolyn Seidl• Organization: Menominee Tribal Wellness Director• Learning activity: Nursing students educated Menominee children about ways to prevent diabetes

by teaching them about proper nutrition and proper exercise.• Number served: 60 NWTC students involved in project: 8

General Study – Fieldwork Project

• Division: General Studies Instructor: Sharon Chacon-Mineau• Organizations: Various• Learning activity: Through various projects, students studied a place, event, or facility that relates to the

World of Psychology. For example, some students observed activities at a child care center to study how children learn.

3rd Annual NonperishableArchitecture Competition

• Division: Trades and TechnicalInstructor: Gary Magee

• Organization: Local food pantries • Learning activity: Architectural students collected over 6,800 nonperishable food items

to build impressive original structures and reproductions.Eleven teams were comprised of six students each in the competition.

• Number served: 6,800 food items NWTC students involved in project: 60

Community Service Interns

• Division: Public Safety Instructor: Mike Albertson• Organization: Green Bay Police Department• Learning activity: Criminal Justice student interns worked with GB Police Dept. in selected neighborhoods

doing house checks, working at parks, recovering bicycles, etc. • Number served: Green Bay community NWTC students involved in project: 8

Role play – Green Bay Police Department

• Division: Public Safety Instructors: Tom Martin, Mike Albertson,Ian Nishimoto

• Organization: Green Bay Police Department• Learning activity: Criminal Justice students acted as role players for the GB Police Department

as victims, hostages, etc.• Number served: 132 NWTC students involved in project: 20

Presentation – “Shopping for a Decision”

• Division: Business & Information Technology Instructors: Shelley McDermid and faculty• Organization: Rainbow House• Learning activity: Administrative Assistant students scheduled motivational speaker to present choices

on decision-making, lifestyles, and life-changing methods for behavior modificationto residents of the local domestic abuse shelter.

Neighborhood Housing Services

• Division: Trades & TechnicalInstructor: Gerry Bentzler

• Organization: Neighborhood Housing Services• Learning activity: Wood Technic students helped with a

distressed property located on Mather Street. They helped with the rehabilitation of the home,learning how to improve existing structures.

• Number served: Low-income family NWTC students involved in project: 12+

Massage Clinic

• Division: Health Sciences Instructors: Physical Therapy club activity• Organization: Physical Therapy Assistant program• Learning activity: PTA club offered massages for students and staff. The students strengthened

their hands-on skills, client in-take form skills, and learning interaction skillsbetween clients and therapist.

• Number served: 100+ NWTC students involved in project: 30

Asthma Camp

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Kathy Schlitz• Organization: Green Bay Area Asthma Coalition at Webster Elementary• Learning activity: Respiratory Care students helped at the 10th Annual Asthma Camp, sponsored

by St. Vincent Hospital, with presentations on asthma management and encouragementfor kids to stay active in life and sports of their choice.

NWTC Blood Drive

• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Mary Rahr• Organization: American Red Cross Blood Drive• Learning activity: Medical Assistant students helped with the annual NWTC Blood Drive by serving

Service LearningEast High School Lights• Division: Business & Information Technology

Instructor: Mary Sue Fenner• Organization: East High School• Learning activity: Marketing & Graphic Communication students created designs for lights in special needs

classroom. This project offered needed stimulation in the learning environmentfor students with disabilities who are in a reclining position throughout the day.

Educating the Hmong Culture in Dental Needs• Division: Health Sciences Instructor: Kaye Raasch• Organization: Hmong Community Center• Learning activity: Dental Hygiene students worked with the Hmong Community Center to reach

dental needs in their community. The students used a video tape in Hmong to describethe teeth cleaning procedure and general dental health education.

Repair of Drill Press

• Division: Trades and Technical Instructor: Russ Johnson• Organization: Bay View Middle School• Learning activity: Welding students repaired cast iron drill press table. Middle School students observed

the process of learning how to analyze the job and make the appropriate repairsto the outdated, but still-usable table.

• Division: Trades and Technical Instructor: Wendy Follett• Organization: American Institute of Architects, WI NE Chapter• Learning activity: Architectial Technology students helped the Institute with presenting the film

• Division: Business & Information Technology Instructor: Nancy L. Colden• Organization: Salvation Army• Learning activity: Marketing Management students staged a fundraiser with all proceeds

going to the Salvation Army – totaled $5,000 donation.• Number served: Many NWTC students involved in project: 32

Suamico Village Park

• Division: Trades and Technical Instructors: Norm Coller & Jack Tribe• Organization: Village of Suamico• Learning activity: Gas Utility students helped WPS with the installing of lights for Suamico’s athletic field.

Students experienced working at a remote jobsite, scheduling, installation aroundexisting facility, record keeping, and mapping of project.

Traffic Control – Criminal Justice Students

• Organizations: Hmong New Year Celebration, American Heart Walk, Hispanic Parade,Green Bay East-West football game, Breast Cancer Walk, Noodleini Run/Walk,NWTC Love Lights Tribute, NWTC Alumni Craft Fair, Halloween Fiesta

• Learning activity: Criminal Justice students conducted traffic, security, and safety control for various eventsand checked parking lots, grounds, and building security.

Preventative Maintenance Service

• Division: Trades and Technical Instructor: Ken Delcore• Organization: Humane Society• Learning activity: HVAC/R students performed maintenance on the fresh air intake and exhaust systems
