SCHOLARSHIP

Each year the St. John Paul II Parish Rosary Society awards a $500 scholarship for an eighth grade student who is a member of St. JP II Parish and will be attending a Catholic high school in

September. The award is based on the highest test scores. If interested, please forward your name, tele-phone number, and test scores to the Parish Rectory,

attention Mary Ann Decha /Rosary Society by April 30, 2018.

Mothers’ Day is May 13th.

You may register your mother, (living or deceased) for the spe-cial Masses on that weekend by

using the envelope in your parish-ioner package, or by obtaining an envelope at the church entrances.

You may also memorialize a spe-cial Mothers’ Day Candle for your

mother . (These candles will burn on the

Blessed Mother’s Altar on Mothers’ Day weekend.)

You can reserve candle on April 28-29 and May 5-6.

The offering is $10.00.

CCD Registration for

Grades Pre-K though 8 for next year’s pro-gram will begin on April 16, 2018 and end

September 8, 2018. You can download the registration form at www.johnpaul2parish.com, in the religious education program or you can stop by the

rectory from 9am - 2pm Monday-Thursday and Friday 9am-12PM.

A Baptismal certificate is required for First Grade registration and for all new

registrants.

May: The Month of Mary

During the month of May, we

honor our Blessed Mother. There will be special Devo-

tions. Blessed Mother’s Altar traditionally has been decorat-

ed by parishioners. This year, just like last year, we open the dedication

of the flowers to others. The Altar needs two ar-rangements each week:

$50 each. Parishioners may donate flowers for the altar in the church for any Sunday except during Advent and

Lent. Please contact the rectory for information.

JPII PARISH ROSARY SOCIETY YEAR END MEETING

BISHOP MANUEL CRUZ WILL BE CELE-BRATING THE 9:30 A.M. MASS ON SUNDAY, MAY 20. AFTERWARDS, HE WILL JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST IN THE PARISH CENTER. Members of the New Polish Community Circle would like to invite everyone to the 227th Anni-versary Commemorative program celebrating Polish Constitution Day, on Sunday May 6th. Celebration will start with a Polish Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church at 10:45am offered for Polonia. The commemorative program will begin right after the mass at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Center. After the program everyone is invited for pizza, coffee and cake.

Nel Vangelo S. Giuseppe viene chiamato fabbro. Quando i Nazaretani udirono Gesù inse-gnare nella loro sinagoga, dis-sero di lui: «Non è Egli il figlio del legnaiuolo? ». E altra volta con stupore e disprezzo: « Non è costui il falegname?». Nessun dubbio quindi che S. Giuseppe non fosse un operaio vero, un lavoratore, un uomo di fatica. Si ritiene che sia stato falegname, e all'occasione anche fabbro, carpentiere, carradore.

Maneggiava la pialla, la scure, la sega, il martello. Così tutti i giorni, dal mattino alla sera, per tutta la vita, faticando, su-dando, consumando le forze. Una delle raffigurazioni più frequenti del Santo Patriarca è quella in cui viene ritratto al banco con la pialla in mano e la sega accanto. Uomo giusto, sapeva che il lavoro è legge per tutti. Non si ribellò, non si lamentò del suo mestiere, nè della fatica. La-vorò con assiduità, non di malavoglia, eseguendo bene, disimpegnando onestamente gli obblighi e i contratti. Amò il lavoro. Nella sua umiltà non badò a tutte quelle ragioni che potevano parer buone e che avrebbero potuto indurlo a non occuparsi in cose materiali: l'essere dis-cendente del grande Re Davide, l'essere sposo della Madre di Dio, il Padre putativo del Verbo Incarnato e la di lui guida. L'umiltà gli insegnò a conciliare la sua dignità con l'esercizio di un mestiere molto ordinario e faticoso. Non si rammaricava di lasciare le sante conversazioni e la preghiera assieme a Gesù e Maria, che tanto consolavano ed elevavano il suo cuore, per attendere per lunghe ore ai lavori dell'officina. S. Giuseppe non cercò nel lavoro il mezzo di soddisfare la cupidigia di guadagno o di ricchezza. Non fu un operaio incontentabile, pur essendo previdente. Non volle essere ricco, e non invidiò i ricchi. Sapeva essere sempre contento. Da uomo di fede trasformò la fatica quotidiana in un grande mezzo di elevazione, di merito, di esercizio di virtù. Nutrire e crescere il Fanciullo Divino che si preparava a es-sere la vittima per la redenzione del mondo: questo era il motivo che rendeva sante e sommamente meritorie le fatiche di S. Giuseppe. « Chi lo crederebbe? Un uomo acquista col sudore della sua fronte vestiario, nutrimento e sostentamento per il suo Dio! Mani consacrate, destinate a mantenere una vita così bella, quanto è glorioso il vostro ministero, e quanto mi sembra degna degli angeli la vostra sorte! Sudori veramente preziosi! » (Huguet). Col canto nel cuore é la preghiera sulle labbra, S. Giuseppe fu il più fortunato di tutti i lavoratori.

lowej Polski 3 maja

Od wieków losy na-rodu polskiego wiązały się z dziejami Kościoła. W ko-ściele katolickim szczegól-nie kult Matki Bożej odgrywał ważną rolę w kształ-towaniu się ducha patriotycznego i religijnego Na-rodu. Maryja zawsze czuwała nad wiernymi. Nie tylko w spokojnych latach, ale i w trudnych chwi-lach. Nie opuściła Polaków podczas "potopu szwedzkiego", w czasach zaborów, powstań i wo-jen. To właśnie Ona dodawała sił całemu Narodo-wi, jednoczyła go, zagrzewała do walki. Symbolem wolności narodowej i religijnej stała się właśnie Matka Boża Częstochowska na Jasnej Górze. W 1655 roku Szwedzi napadli na Rzeczpo-spolitą. Ojczyzna nie była na to przygotowana. Na-ród był skłócony, szlachta podzielona. Sytuacja do-prowadziła do zajęcia kraju przez Szwedów. Prze-kazy mówią, że 8 listopada 1655 roku wojska wro-ga stanęły pod murami Jasnej Góry. Najeźdźcy byli przekonani, iż twierdza się podda równie szybko jak reszta kraju. Wbrew zdrowemu rozsądkowi, Polacy oddani Matce Bożej, postanowili stawić czoła ogromnej armii wroga i bronić się do ostat-niego żołnierza. Niewielka armia Maryi odniosła zwycięstwo. Wydarzenie to miało zatem nie tylko znaczenie polityczne ale również religijne. Król Jan Kazimierz docenił opiekę Matki Boskiej i 1 kwiet-nia 1656 roku złożył uroczyste ślubowanie w Kate-drze Lwowskiej, oddając kraj pod jej władanie. Od tej chwili Maryja stała się patronką i Królową Pol-ski. W 1962 roku papież Jan XXIII ogłosił Ma-ryję Królową Polski. Została ona patronką Polski wraz ze św. Wojciechem, biskupem – męczenni-kiem i św. Stanisławem. Święto rozpoczyna w ko-ściołach katolickich nabożeństwa ku czci Maryi z codziennie śpiewaną Litanią Loretańską i pieśniami maryjnymi.
