    and

    supporters from back home. Witho

    your dedication, motivation, and su

port we could not have accomplish

the endless days away from home.

We are truly grateful for every bit oinspiration you have given us to co

    tinue the fight.

The 396th TC will continue to pave

the road to success until our very la

Soldier steps onto the aircraft and

    leaves Regional Command-(RC) E

As the saying goes: You are only

    good as your last mission.

    -SGT Ashten M. Wilkerso

It is a proud privilege to be a Soldier,

a good Soldier with discipline, self

respect, pride in his unit and his coun-

try, a high sense of duty and obligation

to his comrades and his superiors, and

a self confidence born of demonstratedability.

    -George S. Patton Jr.

Our success has been measured by

the blood, sweat, and tears that

have been paid by all of the

    Soldiers of the 396th Transpor-

    tation Company (TC). Hard

work has not been a stranger,

    from the lowest ranking private

    to the highest ranking officer

    within our ranks. We have

    exceeded all expectations

    originating from our superiors.

The battle has not been easy,

but with the can-do attitude of

    our organization, there has not

been a task given that we

    could not conquer. Seven

    months ago our unit deployed

to Bagram, Afghanistan as a team

willing to accept the fight. As we

are nearing the end of the race we

are standing up as champions. Team-

work has been the backbone of our

success. We have triumphed our big-

    gest fear: failure.

The hard work and dedication of our

Soldiers has not gone unnoticed. OurSoldiers have grown into trained pro-

    fessionals and disciplined combat vet-

    erans. Leaders have become techni-

cally and tactfully proficient in ensur-

ing the success of our team. Promo-

tions are at an all time high within the

396th TC. Our Soldiers drive for suc-

cess has allowed them to excel within

    our ranks.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrivalof our replacement unit. Preparations

are underway to ensure a smooth tran-

    sition. Equipment inventories are be-

    ing conducted to minimize complica-

tions during the transition. Battle fo-

cused training has been highlighted in

each Convoy Escort Team. We are

ready to share our knowledge and pass

the torch to the incoming unit.

On behalf of the 396th TC, I would

like to thank all of our family, friends,

    HIGH OP-TANE

    Commanders CornerGrowth is a constant

    progression within an

    element that consis-

    tently develops over a

    period of time. In

    preparation for thiscompanys ongoing

    deployment in support

    of Operation Enduring

    Freedom (OEF), that

    process started in Feb-

    ruary of 2012. As this

    deployment rapidly

    comes to completion,

    the personal and pro-

    fessional advance-

    ments made by Soldiers, Non-

    commissioned officers, and officers within

    the 396th Transportation Company has

truly been astounding. Reflecting over the

past 14 months, individual Soldiers from

numerous companies and military occupa-tional specialties (MOSs) have cultivated

into convoy escort teams and sections now

identified as Outlaws, Bull Dogs, mainte-

nance, Rough Riders, Bone Crushers, Op-

    erations, or Dog Pound. Additionally,

numerous Soldiers continue to conduct non

    -standard missions throughout Bagram that

include providing security at entry control

    points, inspections and identification of

excess equipment, and ammo supply point

    activities. These cohesive elements

have become the companys core, mo

    concerned for Battle Buddies morale,

welfare, and well-being than any per-

sonal want or need. Having been giv

    the opportunity, 396

up. The most certain way to

succeed is always to try just one more

    time.

    Always do your best.

What you plant now, you will harvest

    later.

If you can dream it, you can do it.

Learn from the past, set vivid, detailedgoals for the future, and live in the only

moment of time over which you have

    any control; now.

First Hand from the First SergeantHave Faith in Yourself

Always continue the climb. It is possi-

ble for you to do whatever you choose,

if you first get to know who you are

and are willing to work with a power

that is greater than yourself to do it.

I don't believe you have to be better

than everybody else. I believe you have

to be better than you ever thought youcould be.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving

We have reached the month of March, the snow

is melting away and spring is finally in sight.

Our Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) team

was selected by the Brigade to conduct recoverymissions with 2/7 Cavalry to help the New Zea-

land Army bring their equipment back to Ba-

gram Airfield (BAF) to ship home. The teams

guidance and expertise concerning heavy equip-

ment recovery was pivotal to the mission.

Even though we are only half way through the

month, we have already accumulated more miles

    than February and still counting.

Our admin crew, SGT Ackley and SGT Rios,

have been extremely hard at work completing an

endless amount of awards and promotion paper-

work to ensure our Soldiers receive the recogni-

tion they deserve for all their hard work!We also want to give a shout out to our person-

nel on the various taskings throughout BAF. All

these Soldiers play an important role in order to

    make our missions happen.

Our Senior Truckmaster (SFC Lapsley) truly be-lieves that the Indiana Hoosiers will win the

    NCAA National Basketball Championship; YEA

RIGHT!! There are plenty of friendly debates

concerning NCAA Basketball in OPS-Town, but

until next time we thank all of our family and

friends that have stuck by our side to help suppo

us in this long race to the finish.

    BIG WHEELS!!!

    The Bulldog family would like

to wish everyone a HappySaint Patrick's Day, and thankour family members for all

    their support.

For the month of March theBulldogs have been activelyengaged in working at BagramAir Field ammunition point, retro sort yard, containermovements, and have also

been conducting convoy op-erations with other ConvoyEscort Teams. The Bulldogs

hard work and dedication goesto our family members and our

    fellow Soldiers in arms. We

strive for perfection and cant wait forthe day we return home.

The Bulldogs want to give a shout outto SGT Lewis and SGT Cook for their

newborn baby boy and baby girl; wecant wait to get home to see them.

We would like to let our families know thatwe are preparing to return home, but at the

same time we are focused on our missions athand.

The Bulldogs want to congratulate SPC Pe-lep for being the High Miler for the month of

March. We would like to recognize

SPC White for his hard work and dedcation to the team while conductingmultiple missions and company task

ings; helping the team lead from the

    front.

    -Jim Rohn

    deployment for seven months, Soldiers

continue to display the same drive as they

did the first time they went outside the

wire. Our Soldiers have experienced the

hot weather, the cold winter months, and

in many occasions, sleep deprivation. No

matter what the mission demanded from

them, this very special group of Soldiers

has always remained vigilant under any

circumstances. This month I would like to

give recognition to the Gunners of the

Its March and spring is quickly

    approaching. This month we have

continued to train and remain pro-

ficient and tactful in our jobs in

efforts to remain ready to execute

missions that are given to our

team. Once a mission is assigned

to the Bone Crushers, all mem-

bers of our team shift gears from

    training and maintaining their

    equipment to ensuring that they

are 100% mission ready. This is

no easy task for the Soldiers on our team.It is because of this daily commitment that

our team remains efficient all the time, as

well as able to operate with non-organic

    elements from different units. Bone

Crushers are doing a great job, and as we

already know, success starts with one's

    personal commitment to duty. Beyond

that, we rely on how much everyone be-

lieves in what we are trying to accom-

plish. After enduring the rigors of this

    Bone Crusher team: SGT

    Butler, SGT Wilkinson, SP

    Rovere, and PFC Coakley

    Of course recognition is in

    order for our superior team

of drivers as well, some of

the best Ive had the honor

    work with; SGT Daniels,

    SPC Halls, SPC Flores, an

PFC Quijano. As a result o

    their professionalism and

    attention to every stretch o

road that we travel on, we have beenable to navigate through Regional Com

mand (RC) East and successfully ac-

    complish our missions.

I want to close by extending recogniti

and thanks to the families of the Bone

Crushers. The support that our Soldie

receive from their loved ones is essen

    tial to our mission.

    DOG POUND

    P A G EV O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 5

This month I would like to introduce each

exceptional member that makes this teamgreat. In our Scout truck we have SGT Gad-

bois, a short man in stature, but when navigat-

ing through RC East he stands as high as any

giant. SGT Stewart is a Soldier of many tal-

ents. He is an expert at gunning, trouble shoot-

ing our trucks communication systems, and

fixing our jamming devices that protect us out

on the road. Also, we have SPC Peterson and

SPC Gullotti. Both are great drivers that drive

with just the right amount of antagonism to

pave the way for the Dog Pound. Lead truck

comes next. My driver, SPC Alvarado is a

very self-assured Soldier with a heart of gold.

She looks out for our truck family like a bigsister. She would say its just the touch of

estrogen that the four of us need in our truck.

My truck also holds SPC Wagner and SPC

Lee. Wagner is a guy that has knowledge

about a variety of things. It never surprises me

that he can be most informative in our some-

times fanatical truck conversations. Lee is a

man of few words in the truck, but when he

comes out of his shell to speak, his confidence

is as deliberate as a preacher giving a sermon.

Gun Truck 3 holds SGT Ammons, a real life

walking ESPN data base that has a passion

greater than any sports correspondent on tele-

    vision. SGT Wilkerson

A., the voice of the team, who is always willing to

step up and say what she

    feels, and mostly what

    everyone else is thinking

    but wont say. Shes like

    our very own news jour-

    nalist. She designs and

    edits this very newsletter.

    Also in this truck are

    SGT Wilkerson R. and

SGT Jackson. Wilkerson R. is also a man of few

words, however, when it comes to problem solv-

ing and being more tactically and technically

sound on mission he always steps up to the plate. The most heartfelt words I can say about Jackson

are, I cant help but admire that the very pillar

that holds him up is family. In Gun Truck 4 we

have SGT Riley, who is undoubtedly the biggest

FL Gators fan alive. As a GA Bulldog fan Im

always reminding him of how his team lost the

Worlds Biggest Cocktail Party for the past two

years. I would like to describe SPC Maciel as

the little sister that I never had. She somehow

brings a bubbly atmosphere to the team with her

sometimes zealous comments. SPC Livingston is

a southern gentleman, who is happily engaged

and a new father. SPC Pugh is a guy that shows

no fear when it comes to dismounting to ass

and protect the Mission Commander on

ground. Last but not least, trail truck houses

SSG Miller, who indisputably shows the greest amount of enthusiasm for the job that Iv

ever seen. SGT Reid and PFC Robinson are

two guys that like to lurk behind the scenes

but still make great contributions to the Tea

SPC Harrelson is my fellow southern boy.

would give you the shirt off of his back if y

    asked for it.

That is the Dog Pound, a group of stupendo

individuals that in my eyes make the best C

voy Escort Team (CET) in Afghanistan. Be

a part of this team will always hold a specia

    place in my heart.

    -SSG Baker

ment to ensure this happens. Their driving

skills are second to none as they navigate

through dangerous roads and the congested city

of Kabul and villages alike. Our gunners and

assistant gunners take pride in their assigned

crew-served weapons as they continually per-

form checks and maintenance to ensure thatthey remain functional at all times. They also

rehearse Rules of Engagement and Escalation

of Force procedures to remain sharp in their

skills. Our truck commanders do an excep-

tional job with their assigned roles. Their re-

    sponsibilities are many,

As we enter the final month of our de-

ployment in Afghanistan, our mission is

almost over. It is critical that during this

time we stay focused. The thoughts of

returning home to our loved ones is a

joyful one. The things we often take for

granted are a constant reminder of howfortunate we are to be who we are, as we

reflect while serving in a foreign land.

This deployment has sparked a profound

imprint in our minds of the many bless-

ings that are bestowed upon us. Our

Soldiers are aware of the mission at

hand as they are focused, excited and are

always ready to do their jobs to the best of

    their abilities.

I would like to mention the outstanding job

that the Outlaws have done while performing

their duties and responsibilities. In order for us

to complete our mission it is imperative that

we maintain a 100% readiness rate of our vehi-cles at all times. Second, we must have dedi-

cated Soldiers who possess the knowledge and

desire to perform at a high level; we have those

Soldiers. Our operators work countless hours

    performing Preventive Maintenance Checks

and Services (PMCS) on all pieces of equip-

    and the challenges are rewarding

    Our maintenance personnel are a

integral part of our success; any

issues that have occurred while o

the road, were resolved in an exp

dient manner due to their expertis

Each member plays a vital role inthe overall mission accomplish-

ment. The Outlaws would like to

    acknowledge SPC Gill for receiv

    the companys High Roller

Award for the month of March.

SPC Gill is an outstanding Soldie

who always places the mission fi

Her work ethic is a true inspiration to us all. W

would like to mention to our family and friend

back home that we love you all and miss you

From the latter half of February

and well into March, Convoy Es-

cort Team (CET) 5 has been run-ning full tilt. The Rough Riders

    have conducted several missions

in February, including their firstmission to Jalalabad Air Field

(JAF) and familiar FOBs through-out our area of responsibility.

    A noteworthy achievement by a

Soldier within this Convoy EscortTeam (CET) this month is SPC

    motable status.

For the month of March, manySoldiers are looking forward to
