Power to the DesktopThe 3Com 3102 Business Phone, 3105 Attendant Console, and 3101 Basic Phone are all fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE). That means they can be centrally powered with any standard-compliant power source, including the stackable 3Com SuperStack® 3 Switch 4400 PWR and the innovative family of in-the-wall 3Com IntelliJack™ switches.3Com IntelliJack products transform a single Ethernet outlet into four ports for strikingly easy-to-implement and economical LAN portexpansion. Local 3Com Ethernet power sources are also available foradditional deployment flexibility.

IP-Enriched Communications3Com worktops—including desktopand PC-based phones—offer traditionaltelephony features plus a wealth ofadvanced IP telephony services thatmake business communications more efficient and productive. Hardware and software work together to provideusers and administrators convenienceand control.

Activating features, redirecting calls, andcreating on-the-fly teleconferences requireonly the click of a button. Informativedisplays let users monitor incoming andoutgoing calls and view calling logs anddirectory listings. Users can initiate callsquickly right from the directory.

3Com IP worktops help eliminate thecosts and anxiety often associated withmoving an office phone. Anyone who hashad to wait days for an expensive servicecall merely to relocate an extension willappreciate their self-locating capabilities.To move a phone, the user just unplugsit from the original Ethernet port andplugs it into a port at the new location.All personal settings, extension numbers,and voice mails travel right along withthe phone.

3Com 3102 Business PhoneThe 3Com 3102 Business Phone (shownon the previous page) is a full-featured yeteasy-to-use worktop well suited to a busyoffice. Thousands of hours of research inacoustic design, hardware engineering,and audio tuning give this third-gener-ation multiline phone superior voicequality based on hardware speciallyengineered to deliver higher-fidelity.

The 3102 model features a full-duplexspeakerphone, 18 programmable buttonswith lights, 10 fixed-feature buttons, anda two-line pixel-based LCD display thatprovides caller ID information and inter-nal name directory access. The phonealso comes with 802.3af PoE capabilityand two switched 10/100 Ethernet portsfor LAN links.

For smooth adaptation to a multinationalbusiness environment, the 3Com 3102Business Phone can be localized. The fivemost commonly used feature buttons—Speaker, Redial, Conference, Transfer,and Hold—are labeled with a removablefaceplate that is available in English,French, German, Italian, or Spanish.

3Com 3101 Basic Speaker PhoneOffering big phone features in a compactform factor, the 3Com 3101 Basic SpeakerPhone is an affordable alternative to the3102 Business Phone. It offers practical,easy-to-use capabilities such as four pro-grammable buttons for call managementand access to frequently used functions,and clearly distinguished Hold andMessage buttons to help users handlecalls professionally. An intuitive, pixel-based, multiline display with three soft-keys and a four-way cursor controllerprovides instant access to the location’sdirectory and call logs.

With the same attention to quality anddetail that 3Com offers in all its phones,this basic model is also equipped with ahalf-duplex speakerphone for staff whorequire hands-free and two-way speakercommunications. Two switched 10/100Ethernet ports simplify connecting acomputer or other networked device.Support for IEEE 802.3af PoE giveorganizations additional networkingflexibility.

3Com 3101 Basic PhoneDemonstrating 3Com’s commitment tooffering its customers practical andcost-saving choices, the 3101 BasicPhone delivers all the rich capabilitiesof the 3101 Basic Speaker Phone butwith a listen-only speaker.

3Com 3105 Attendant ConsoleThe 3105 Attendant Console gives work-group administrators and receptionists aflexible and intuitive tool for handlingcalls and viewing phone status for up to100 users. To service larger locations withhundreds of users, multiple consolescan be connected in parallel.

In addition to 50 programmable buttonswith functionality that can be doubledwith a press of the SHIFT key, the consoleoffers four additional buttons reserved forfrequently used features. The 3105 modelalso supports Direct Station Selection andBusy Lamp Field (DSS/BLF) functions,CO line appearances, call park zones,and the 802.3af PoE standard.

A highly intuitive, browser-basedadministrative tool, 3Com NBX NetSetlets network administrators customize3Com phones to fulfill both businessrequirements and user expectations.Pull-down menu choices are tailored tothe capabilities of each type of phone.

Telecom managers in larger organizationswith a host of users will appreciate thetime-saving management functions thatsimplify creation of departmental profiles.NBX NetSet also offers customizationoptions to users. They can do many thingsfor themselves, like add speed dials,change ring tones, and create personalizedoff-site notification paths for new incom-ing messages. Using a simple web browserand appropriate passwords, the system'sstraight-forward pull down menu choicescan be viewed and easily tailored any-time and from almost anywhere.

3Com NBX Desktop Call Assistant(DCA)A phone productivity tool for everyonein the office, NBX DCA lets users managephone activity from their Windows PCdesktops. The intuitive interface isdesigned to help the average user accom-plish common phone-related tasks withspeed and confidence. This MicrosoftTAPI-based application comes free ofcharge with all NBX systems.

Using DCA, employees can dial calls bysimply pointing and clicking on personalor corporate directory entries, or bydragging and dropping a phone numberon an icon. They can also use their PCsto add new callers to their directories,benefit from features like call transfer andpark, handle multiple calls, and maintainpersonal inbound and outbound calllogs for reference or billing purposes.

Applications for EnhancedControl and Efficiency

The user-friendly browser-based interfaces provided by NBX NetSet make programming and managing NBX phones easy and convenient.

NBX DCA software lets users place calls by simplydragging and dropping a telephone number on thephone icon in the system tray of their computer. Theycan answer calls with similar easy by just clicking thesame icon.

3Com NBX Complement AttendantSoftware (CAS)NBX CAS gives attendants in phone-intensive offices the call-handling andautomation capabilities they need forproviding prompt and professionalattention to callers. Low-cost site licensesare an economical way to extend theadvantages of this application to anynumber of users at a particular location.Working with 3Com phones, the softwareenhances efficiency with fast directoryaccess and keyboard-powered call control.

The CAS PC interface simplifies complexinformation by showing the attendant acomplete view of multiple inbound andoutbound calls. It queues incoming callsat the top of the screen, while also dis-playing caller information, call status, andtransaction time. To transfer a call, theattendant simply uses the mouse to dragthe call indicator onto the appropriatename in the user directory.

Easy-to-use color-coded icons indicateidle or in-use status. In addition, a notefield can show contact information aboutindividuals, such as "out of the office" or"works from home on Tuesdays." AndCAS eliminates the problem of outdateddirectory entries by retrieving employeecontact information from the NBX callprocessor itself. And the attendant caneasily add contacts, hide names or modifythe on-screen view—sorting by firstname, last name, department, etc.

3Com NBX pcXset Client SoftwareFor telecommuters and travelers who wantto take their phones with them, 3Comoffers NBX pcXset software, a "softphone"application that puts the equivalent of a3Com IP phone on a Windows-based laptopor desktop PC screen. Employees can placeand receive calls on their computers whileenjoying full 3Com phone functionalityusing the keyboard, mouse/trackball, anda compatible USB headset—no externalphone is necessary.

Workers can remain fully connected totheir office, manage multiple calls fromincoming caller-ID information, and viewtheir voicemail messages. They never needto be out-of-touch, because voicemailmessages are always received even withthe computer off. And since the phone ispart of the PC, enhanced security optionsare available from Virtual Private Networksand users have the flexibility of a varietyof connectivity options, including wire-less Ethernet.
