Introduction

Providing competence for innovation.

In this brochure we will introduce the top performer among polymers – our 3M™ Dyneon™ Perfluoroelastomers (FFKM). These are elastomeric materials with a fully fluorinated backbone. Its C-F bond is the strongest in organic chemistry and in combination with innovative cross linking tech-nology at the curing stage, it provides materials with outstanding per for-mance characteristics.

Whether it is durability, chemical or temperature resistance in the scope of sealing technology: Perfluoroelastomers by 3M™ Dyneon™ are the material of choice for various industries.

This brochure shows you the broad range of possible applications and points out the various benefits of using high-performance perfluoro-elastomers for your projects.

Perfl uoroelastomer

Key features of Perfl uoroelastomers.Typically, FFKM materials provide the best possible resistance to very high temperatures and extreme chemical environments, whilst maintaining their elastomeric sealing capabilities. Furthermore they do not compromise on key mechanical properties, such as compression set resistance, volume swell resistance, and tensile properties.

Why use FFKM?FFKM materials from 3M are developed from unique combinations of polymer and curative techno logies, enabling us to provide sealing solutions that meet the demands of these very challenging market sectors.

In the aerospace, chemical processing, and semicon-ductor industries, production process and operating temperatures are steadily increasing and chemical and plasma environments are becoming more and more aggressive.

FFKM seals are the material of choice for the transpor-tation of chemicals in harsh environments where safety must not be compromised.

Typical Applications.Typical FFKM applications are o-rings, gaskets, profi les, tubes, valves, pump stators, and other custom made parts which require long term sealing reliability under high temperature and aggressive chemical conditions.

HeatShield

The Highest Temperatures.

Outstanding sealing ability for prolonged exposure to the highest temper-atures and aggressive aerospace fluid environments, those are the key requirements for FFKM materials supplied to the aviation industry for engine sealing applications.

3MTM DyneonTM Perfluoroelastomers PFE 7301BZ HeatShield has, for many years, proven to meet the demands of the aerospace market for high temperature sealing solutions.

The development of E-21464 HeatShield demonstrates even further enhancement of the already outstanding long term, high temperature (316 °C) compression set resistance of PFE 7301BZ. It takes the performance of our high temperature FFKM materials to an even higher level and ready to serve the next generation of high temperature jet engine applications.

The Best of the Best – HeatShield.

ChemShield

ChemShield. The newly developed 3MTM DyneonTM Perfluoroelastomer PFE 7502BZ compound combines the superior chemical resistance capability of a peroxide curable FFKM with enhanced high temperature performance (275 °C). In comparison to other conventional perfluoroelastomer grades in the marketplace it provides more reliable sealing capability by:

Extending the lifetime of a sealing solution

Prolonging the periods between routine maintenance

Reducing the risk of unplanned downtime and environmental issues

Reliability & Durability.New challenges in the Chemical Processing Industry demand further improved productivity and reliability. Sealing solutions based on the latest perfluoroelastomers from 3M can help to:

Reduce overall cost Facilitate improved safety Increase productivity in chemical production plants

3MTM DyneonTM Perfluoroelastomer PFE 40Z is a base gum for FFKM compounds with a very low compression set and all around chemical resistance.

Relative Plasma Tests.

In the semiconductor industries it is all about purity. The smallest particulate or gaseous contaminant in the production process can lead to quality issues for the final product.

Materials and process purity as well as cleanliness are of paramount importance.

3M™ Dyneon™ Perfluoroelastomer PFE 7403WZ PlasmaShield is suitable for the most challenging semicon ductor manufacturing processes, where regular contact with oxy genated and fluorinated plasma treatments is a prerequisite. During such plasma treatments, the weight loss of PFE 7403WZ is minimal, thus reducing the emissions of particles and gasses.
