Internet UsagePolicy

Who does the internet usage policy apply to?

The policy applies to you if

• You are working on Wirral CT premises

OR

• You are working off site but using Wirral CT equipment or facilities (on a work laptop from home)

Once your manager has approved your access, you can use the internet:

• to facilitate your work at the trust

• to view web sites which are related to NHS activities, health information, or other professional sphere of activity such as Finance, HR and others

• for personal use for up to 30 minutes per day

Can I use the internet at work?

We encourage you to use the internet:

• within the context of your role to communicate with colleagues and business partners of Wirral CT

• to acquire or share information necessary or related to your role and responsibilities

• for personal educational, research and recreational use as long as these don’t interfere with your duties or the work of others

What can I do?

You must not

• Access, display or download material from any web sites containing material which may be considered offensive

• Use the internet for illegal or unlawful purposes

• Access or use on-line gaming sites

• Download, distribute or store music, video, film or other copyright material

• Access commercial web-based e-mail sites and portals such as Hotmail and Yahoo Mail

What shouldn’t I do?

You must not use the Wirral CT internet facilities

• To carry on any political activity

• To carry on a commercial concern or business

• To participate in peer-to-peer / social networks such as Skype, Dropbox

Full details of what constitutes unacceptable use of the Wirral CT internet facilities are in the policy.

What shouldn’t I do?

If you participate in a discussion on the internet:

• remember that you are representing the organisation

• be professional and inoffensive in what you say

• do not present views on behalf of Wirral CT or any other organisation on any internet service

What else should I know?

Personal Identifiable Information can relate to members of staff as well as patients and can be as simple as including one or more of these:

Name, Address, Date of Birth, Postcode, Sex, Occupation, NI Number, NHS Number, Ethnic Group.

You must not send any Personal Identifiable Information over the internet or intranet unless you are officially meant to send it there as part of your NHS duties and there are correct security measures in place.

• Do not share your account or password information with another person

• Attempting to obtain another user’s account password is strictly prohibited

• You should take all necessary precautions to protect your password and prevent unauthorised access to internet services

Security

• As part of your onboarding checklist you’ll need to complete an interactive test on internet usage. Click on ‘interactives’ on the right of the screen

• Remember that once you start work with the us, by accessing the internet you are AUTOMATICALLY agreeing to adhere to the policy
