Brothers:

As we begin the new year of 2018 I hope every-one had a joyous Christmas season.

Our Christmas dinner was a great success and I

am sure all those who attended had as good a time as I did. Our four $1000 donations went to very deserving organizations and the representatives were greatly ap-preciative for the support. This year we gave to The St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Goodfellows, Our Lady of Guadalupe House and Street Help. Each organization gave a very informative and touching account of their activities in the support of those in need. I had a warm feeling inside that our Council was able to help such worthy endeavours. Surely helping these groups falls within the mandate of our order and is in keeping with the will of Christ to care for those less fortunate.

As I am sure most of you know our Worthy

Grand Knight has been beset with some health issues that has confined him indoors. I am sure you all join with me in extending our best wishes and prayers to him and his family at this time. I would also like to as-sure Bro. Bob that the executive will do our best to keep the council afloat in his absence.

As always please consult the newsletter or Coun-cil website (http://www.kofcwindsor1453.com/) for fish fry dates and times and other Council news and events.

Brothers:

Our FREE Christmas party was well attended, about 75 members, wives , families and charity guests showed up. For a FREE party we sort of expected more. But this Council is not known for attending any-thing. Only a handful of executives come to our meet-ings, and seldom any member at large.

Our next project is Rose Sunday, yet to be planned. I hope we can get a few workers out.

VALUE OF KNIGHTS' MEMBERSHIP

In encouraging potential new recruits to join the Knights, we often stress the opportunity for them to "give something back". We suggest that this can be done through volunteering for council programs that support priests and parishes, as well as through carrying out charitable works in service to the com-munity. However, there is other value in a Knight's membership, which may persuade an otherwise re-luctant recruit to join.

For example, did you know that by the payment of normal annual dues, members obtain a subscription to Columbia Magazine and the monthly Knightline newsletter? Did you know that, upon joining, mem-bers receive a rosary blessed by the Supreme Chaplain? Did you know that scholarship programs for higher education are available for members, their spouses and children? Did you know that members, their spouses and their dependent chil-dren have exclusive access to a portfolio of top-quality life insurance, long term care and annuity products?

Did you know that at no additional cost: (1) mem-bers and their spouses each have between $1,000 and $2,500 accidental death benefit coverage upon joining, (2) eligible families can access the family fraternal benefit which, among other things, offers guaranteed-issue insurance up to $5,000 for any child under age 18 and (3) there is an orphan bene-fit which includes and $80 monthly allotment and up to $7,000 in available scholarships?

Did you know that there is a daily Mass of Remem-brance for deceased members and their wives at St. Mary's Church, the birthplace of the order in New Haven, Connecticut. Did you know that wid-ows of members: (1) continue to be covered under the accidental death benefit, (2) may purchase in-surance and other products up to one year after the member's death, (3) remain eligible with their chil-dren for scholarships and (4) continue to receive a free lifetime subscription to Columbia Magazine?

As you can see, there is much to value in a Knights' membership, beyond the participation in a variety of worthwhile programs and activities. So, the next time you are speaking to a potential new recruit, fill him in on all that the Knights have to offer.

Dear brothers:

Our FREE Christmas party was well attended .About 75 members, wives, families and guests were there. We had hoped for more for our FREE party. But this Council is not known to be attendees. Our meetings have only a few executives there, and seldom any members at large. What do we have to do to get the membership involved and interested again?

Just a reminder the Lenten season is approaching, and this a good time to take inventory of our weaknesses and strive to build on our spirituality.

Life Matters…

Andrew J. Despins, Knights of Columbus Insurance

Whether you’re new to the Order or a long time member, I thought it might be a good idea to summarize some of the fantastic things going on in the Knights of Columbus financial side of things. I plan to visit your Council this year to describe these as well as the other benefits of the Knights in greater detail.

LIFE INSURANCE- There is NO higher rated life insurance company in North America. We have outstanding Term, Whole Life, Mortgage & Estate Planning insurance, with some of the lowest premiums in the industry. If you are currently holding life insurance with any other company or are currently looking for insurance, give us a call…you will not be disappointed.

GUARANTEED INVESTMENTS- The Knights of Columbus are in a position to offer members either Registered (RRSP or RIF), Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) or Non-Registered invest-ments on a GUARANTEED basis. All of which offer a MINIMUM lifetime guarantee. These in-vestments are creditor proof and probate free as well.

LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE- (LTC) is a program that pays for nursing care in your own home, assisted living facility or nursing/long term care facility. The strained Canadian health care system is not able to fully provide for seniors who are faced with the enormous cost as-sociated with a long term care disability (whether physical or a cognitive impairment). Now the Knights are in a position to help when a Brother or his spouse find themselves in this un-fortunate situation. Our program is considerably less expensive and is significantly more comprehensive than the commercial companies’ policies.

DISABILITY INSURANCE- Our Brand new Income Armor will replace income to Member fami-lies in the event of a disability. If you are NOT covered by your employer or are a contrac-tor, entrepreneur or self-employed you should seriously consider income protection insur-ance.

ASSISTANCE SERVICES- Do you need help with budgeting, reducing debt or saving tech-niques? Do you have questions about an impending retirement or about a potential estate tax liability? These are all areas that I can help you with and I provide these services to Members and their families for FREE! We also assist in your time of need if there is a death in your immediate family. We can and will assist in several ways here are just a few:

I will assist, if needed, with funeral arrangements. I will notify the Council so they may as-sist you and the family. If needed, I will assist in any financial matters. I will assist in filing claims with all companies if you wish. I will submit on your behalf for all pertinent CPP survi-vor benefits, Old Age security benefits or any Veterans benefits if applicable. We will do all of the above as an absolutely free fraternal benefit. All that is required is that you or your fam-ily ask for assistance.

Please remember, this is YOUR fraternity. We were established in 1882 to protect our Mem-bers and their families in their time of need. We are still here 135 years later doing just that. If you have not met with me in the past or if it has been a while, give me a call and take advantage of all your fraternity has to offer. How do I make my council successful?

by Bill Country Former State Lead Reports and Information Director

Success is measured and determined in many ways. On the state level we look to see how involved a council is. Is the council meeting the needs of its members, community, and, most importantly, its church?

Does the council send delegates to the State convention? How involved with the running of the Di-ocesan Association or zone is it?

Does the Grand Knight attend the District Deputy’s meeting?

Is the Financial Secretary watching webinar workshops to stay on top of his job? (A good point as the Financial Secretary is the only officer who is in communication with both the Supreme Council and the State Council from year to year as the Grand Knights come and go.) Did the council act on Membership 365? Are families included in council programs?

On the council level success is determined by the work of the Grand Knight. Did the council meet regularly? Did the council run all its programs? Did the council bring in new members? Does the council have a newsletter?

As members of a council we need to remember to inquire and not to be afraid to ask our Grand Knight how the council did in the car raffle or how successful was a council activity. We always need to remind the council officers we are part of a council and want to know what is going on.

We know that success has many levels and sometimes small gains or progress for a council can be rewarding for one and not for another, but the constant is how do you report to Supreme and State. Does the council have a report chairman or does the Financial Secretary have a forms schedule in place to make sure all reports and forms are up to date? If you have a program, do you have a re-port? If you have an activity in the council is there is a form? Good records keeping and good re-ports are important and can help your success and help in planning for another year.

So I ask the incoming Grand Knights, Do you want to be known as a good Grand Knight or a lousy Grand Knight? Ask for advice. More importantly, ask your District Deputy for his advice. Challenge your council. Try a new program or do something just a little different. With interested members a council always succeeds. Let others know of your success. Submit for state awards. Keep the reports and forms up to date and we can all share and know of your of your success and maybe offer some help or suggestions.

A council needs good reporting, State needs good reporting because in the end it can helps us un-derstand what is going on and it will keep your council successful.
