^ Mizzou and Eastern Kentucky have met just three times in the history of the two programs. The two played a three-game series in 2001, which was a 31-win year for Mizzou. The Tigers took two of three contests with EKU in a series what was at a similar point in the season as this year’s matchup.

^ The two teams met from May 5-6 as the Tigers won game one of a doubleheader, 5-2, before dropping the nightcap, 6-5. Mizzou then won the third game, 12-2. ^ Former Mizzou pitching coach Matt Hobbs started game one of that three-game series and tossed 7.2 innings, scattering just five hits while being charged with just one

earned run. He walked five and struck out four in the win, which was his eighth of the year. ^ Two-way standout Ryan Stegall has a tremendous series against EKU that year, tossing 6.0 innings on the mound Sunday, earning his third win of the year. At the plate,

he went 4-for-13 with three runs and two RBI while slugging his 12th homer of the year in the first game of the series. He was also hit by a pitch.

RECORD WHENMEMORABLE DAY FOR HOUCK ^ Last Saturday, Mizzou held its annual Senior Day festivities at Taylor Stadium with junior ace RHP Tanner Houck on the

mound. While the day began by honoring Mizzou’s lone senior, OF Kriby McGuire, the narrative quickly shifted towards Houck, who tossed a complete game while helping Mizzou to a 5-3 win over South Carolina. It was his first complete game of the year and he struck out a season-high 10 batters. He picked up his eighth strikeout of the game on his 112th pitch to close the eighth inning. Head coach Steve Bieser then elected to let him finish what he started. Houck went back out for the ninth and struck out the first two batters he faced and wrapped up the complete game, his fifth career outing with 9.0 innings of work.

^ Houck scattered just five hits and was charged for three runs while walking just one with his season-high 10 strikeouts in what was likely his final home start at Mizzou. He is a projected early first round draft pick in next month’s MLB Draft. He had his outing in front of many family and friends as it was a memorable day for the ace of Mizzou’s pitching staff.

STAYING ON THE TOPIC OF HOUCK ^ Houck has started to find the form that had him labeled as a projected top-10 pick in next month’s draft over the past

several weeks. In his last two starts, Houck is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched against Vanderbilt and South Carolina. He has scattered just 10 hits in that span while striking out 19 against only two walks. More importantly, Mizzou won both contests, 2-1 in 12 innings at Vanderbilt and 5-3 last Saturday vs. South Carolina.

^ Houck’s durability has been on full display as well over his last seven starts as well. While we delve deeper into his durability below, it is important to note that he has pitched through 7.0 innings in seven consecutive starts with five of those seven starts going at least 8.0 innings. He has thrown more than 100 pitches in all seven of those outings as well.

HOUCK MOVING UP THE CAREER CHARTS

^ Mizzou junior ace RHP Tanner Houck now has 288 career strikeouts after striking out a season-high 10 South Carolina batters last Saturday. That ranks him alone in fourth in Mizzou program history, just ahead of Aaron Crow (277). Only Kyle Gibson (304) tallied more strikeouts in the first three seasons at Mizzou than Houck. Both Crow and Gibson were first-round picks and have both pitched in the big leagues.

^ Houck has at least one start left in the regular season. In his career, he is averaging 6.7 strikeouts per start, which puts him on pace to have 295 career strikeouts, which would rank fourth in program history. The breakout is below.

^ Another stat to watch for Houck is innings pitched. He has tossed 296.1 innings in his career, eighth all-time at Mizzou and the most since Aaron Crow threw 302.2 from 2006-08. Houck is on pace for 303.1 innings of work through the conclusion of the regular season, which would rank him tied for fifth all-time at Mizzou and first among three-year players. Below is a look:

Pitcher Ks Years 1. John Dettmer 374 1989-1992 2. Kyle Gibson 304 2007-09 3. Justin Stine 302 1996-1999 4. Tanner Houck 288 2015-present 4. Aaron Crow 277 2006-08

Pitcher IP Years 1. Justin Stine 376.0 1996-99 2. John Dettmer 332.0 1989-1992 3. Tom Heckman 323.2 1978-81 4. Jeremy Callier 309.2 1995-98 5. Chuck Fletcher 303.1 1988-91 6. Aaron Crow 302.2 2006-08 7. Chris Robertson 300.0 1991-94 8. Tanner Houck 296.1 2015-17 9. Nathan Culp 292.0 2004-06

^ In his career, Houck is averaging 6.2 innings per start and has made it through 6.0 innings in 37 of his 43 career starts. He has 24 starts of 7.0+ innings and 13 of 8.0+ innings as he has been one of the most consistent hurlers in all of college baseball for the last three seasons. Of his 43 career starts, 32 have been ‘quality starts’ which are labeled as 6.0 innings with three or fewer earned runs.

^ Houck is 13th nationally in innings pitched (90.1) and second in the SEC, trailing only Florida’s Brady Singer (90.2).

CORNELIUS, MISNER HAVE BIG WEEKEND ^ Middle May is usually the time of the season that true freshmen usually begin to wear down during the grind of their

first Division I season. But if last weekend is any indicator, Mizzou’s freshmen are just getting going for the final stretch of the season.

^ SS Chris Cornelius earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after leading Mizzou in runs, doubles, triples, total bases and slugging last week. He had key hits to spark each of Mizzou’s comeback wins over South Carolina, hitting a double to pull Mizzou within one at 3-2 in the fifth inning Saturday and a double off the right field wall to start Mizzou’s three-run eighth inning that earned it a 5-3 comeback win Sunday. He hit .400 and all four of his hits went for extra bases (three doubles and a triple) in the series.

^ Misner was equally as impressive last weekend against South Carolina. He had three hits, including two huge hits in each of Mizzou’s wins. On Saturday, Misner launched a go-ahead solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning for his first homer in SEC play. On Sunday, Misner delivered a big RBI single with two outs to score Mizzou’s fifth run, a huge insurance run that put Mizzou on top, 5-3, moving to the ninth. South Carolina put two men on in the ninth inning and had his insurance RBI not scored, South Carolina could have played the ninth inning much differently if trailing only by a run instead of two.

QUICK FACTSSIKKEMA MOVES TO ROTATION ^ Mizzou head coach Steve Bieser moved arguably his top bullpen option into the starting rotation last weekend against

South Carolina, putting freshman T.J. Sikkema in the Friday night role. As expected, Sikkema was dominant and was actually in line for the win after being pulled after 5.2 innings. He walked the final batter he faced and reliever Cole Bartlett allowed a go-ahead, two-run homer giving Sikkema the loss as his walk turned out to be the go-ahead run. In all, he went 5.2 innings and allowed just four hits with five strikeouts and just one walk. He is 7-1 with four saves on the year with a 2.59 ERA in 20 appearances (one start). He leads the SEC in opponent batting average (.173), is fifth in wins (seven), ninth in ERA (2.59) and 11th in saves (four).

^ Sikkema was named a Midseason First Team All-American by PerfectGame.com, the only freshman on the first team. Below is a look at his dominance this season and why he has been on the of nation’s elite pitchers and elite freshmen.

HARRIS RETURNS FROM INJURY ^ Mizzou junior RF Trey Harris injured his right shoulder in Mizzou’s series opener at Vanderbilt and was thought to be out

a significant time. But he defied the odds last Sunday and made a dramatic return to Mizzou’s lineup as the designated hitter. He delivered the biggest hit of the weekend, a two-out RBI single to tie Sunday’s finale at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning. That sparked a three-run eighth that gave Mizzou a 5-3 edge moving to the ninth as the Tigers completed the series win over South Carolina.

^ Harris has arguably been Mizzou’s top run creator this season and his presence changes Mizzou’s lineup moving into the final week of the regular season.

^ His ninth-inning homer in the Saturday game at Ole Miss gave him 12 homers on the year. That is the most by a Mizzou player since 2010 when Aaron Senne hit 16 en-route to being named Big 12 Player of the Year.

^ With four games remaining, Harris has an outside shot of climbing into the Mizzou single season top 10 in homers. If he hits four more to get to 16, he would rank tied for seventh in school history.

BOND CARRYING MIZZOU’S OFFENSE OVER LAST SEVEN ^ Mizzou junior C Brett Bond has been red hot over his last seven games, hitting at a .407/.484/.704 clip with two doubles,

two homers and four runs scored in that span. He had a big go-ahead two-run homer Sunday vs. South Carolina. He is second on the team with a new career-high 10 homers this season and he has also slugged 12 doubles, five more than he had in his first two seasons at Mizzou combined and a team-best mark.

^ Bond was added to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, announced March 9 by the Greater Wichita Sports Commission. He is one of 85 catchers to make the watch list and this is the first time he has appeared on the list during his career.

^ Bond is hitting .308/.391/.535 this season with nine homers while scoring a team-high 36 runs. He has also turned in Mizzou’s first five-hit game since 2011 vs. Eastern Illinois (March 7). He finished a triple shy of the cycle vs. Murray State as well.

MONTES DE OCA NAMED NSCA ALL-AMERICAN ^ Mizzou Baseball junior RHP Bryce Montes De Oca was named a National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)

All-American. The award recognizes student-athletes’ athletic accomplishments and dedication to the field of strength and conditioning. Montes De Oca was nominated by Mizzou Baseball strength and conditioning coach Scott Bird.

^ After missing the bulk of the 2016 season with an arm issue, Montes De Oca dedicated himself to staying in shape, working with Coach Bird to keep his strength at an elite level required to pitch in the SEC, the nation’s premier baseball conference. He squatted a max of 625 pounds while front squatting 500 pounds. He maxed out his dumbbell press at 155 pounds, making him one of the strongest players on Mizzou Baseball’s roster. In addition, he also owns a 32.9-inch vertical leap and was praised by Coach Bird as one of the hardest workers he has ever coached.

^ Montes De Oca’s unrivaled work ethic has him projected as a high pick in this year’s Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. On the year, he is 3-5 with a 3.97 ERA in 12 appearances (10 starts) and his lit up radar guns across the SEC with his fastball that approaches triple digits. He is limiting batters to just .193 hitting in 47.2 innings and has struck out 48 against only 31 hits allowed.:

MIZZOU’S SILVESTRI NAMED SEC LEGEND ^ Former Mizzou Baseball standout SS Dave Silvestri will be honored as part of the 2017 AT&T SEC Baseball Legends

Class, announced Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference. Silvestri and honorees from three other SEC schools are set for recognition at this month’s SEC Tournament, scheduled for May 23-28 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama. One of the all-time Mizzou greats, Silvestri is the second Mizzou Baseball alum to earn SEC Legend distinction after Gene McArtor in 2013

^ A two-time First Team All-American, Silvestri was a standout shortstop under Coach McArtor from 1986-88 and guided Mizzou to its first NCAA Regional appearance since 1981 as a junior during his final season with the program in 1988. He is the only player in school history to earn All-America First Team in two separate seasons. Silvestri remains one of the most decorated players to ever come through the Mizzou Baseball program. In addition to earning All-America honors in both 1987 and 1988, he was a two-time All-Big Eight selection, a two-time All-District V selection, and a 1988 All-Big Eight Tournament Team member.

^ After guiding Mizzou to the NCAA South Regional with 42 wins in 1988, Silvestri played with USA Baseball in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. That team won the Gold Medal as Silvestri played along the likes of Tino Martinez, Jim Abbott, Andy Benes and Robin Ventura. Silvestri was drafted in the second round of the 1988 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Houston Astros. He played 181 games over eight seasons in the big leagues, including 86 games with the Montreal Expos in 1996. His first National League hit was a run-scoring, pinch-hit single against his hometown

THE NOTES

St. Louis Cardinals, at old Busch Stadium, in 1995. ^ One cannot look at the Mizzou Baseball record book without seeing Silvestri’s name all over it. He still holds the school single season records for slugging percentage (.849 in 1988), runs scored

(89 in 1988), extra-base hits (47 in 1988) and total bases (186 in 1988). His .379 career batting average is fourth in program history and his .660 career slugging percentage is second all-time. His 18 career triples are a school record.

^ Silvestri ranks in Mizzou’s all-time career top 10 in 11 different categories: batting (fourth - .379), hits (sixth - 248), triples (first - 18), homers (seventh – 35), RBI (ninth – 167), runs scored (fifth – 206), extra-base hits (four – 96), total bases (fourth – 432), slugging (second - .660), stolen bases (fifth – 47) and on-base percentage (fifth - .465).

MIZZOU LEADS SEC IN STEALS ^ After 13 weeks of play, Mizzou has continued to be aggressive on the base paths, stealing an SEC-best 71 bases, a mark that ranks 31st nationally. Mizzou’s 71 steals are already more than 57

single season totals since 1950 and are the most since Mizzou swiped a school-record 94 in 2011. There have been only seven single-season marks higher than Mizzou’s 70 since 1950. ^ Mizzou is on pace to steal 76 bases this season, which would be the sixth-best total in school history. Below is a look at the top marks:

Rank Year Stolen Bases 1. 2011 94 2. 2001 83 3. 1979 83 4. 2003 80 5. 1998 78 6. 1978 74 7. 2006 73 8. 2017 71 PATIENT APPROACH

^ Mizzou has walked 250 times this season (4.81 per game), the second-best mark in the SEC and a mark that ranks 22md nationally. Mizzou walked 235 times last year (4.20 per game) as Mizzou has shattered that mark. In fact, if the Tigers keep at their current 4.81 walks per game pace, they would walk 270 times through the end of the regular season, a mark that would be the most at Mizzou since 2009 when the Tigers drew 298 walks.

MIZZOU 13TH NATIONALLY IN HITS ALLOWED, 12TH IN WHIP ^ Under first-year pitching coach Patrick Hallmark, Mizzou has done an exceptional job limiting opponent’s hits and walks. The Tigers are allowing just 7.60 hits per nine innings pitched, a mark

that ranks 13th nationally, third in the SEC and sixth among teams from power five leagues. ^ Mizzou is on pace to allow just 425 hits this season, a mark that would be the best at Mizzou since 1993. ^ In addition, Mizzou’s WHIP of 1.22 ranks 12th nationally as well and third in the SEC.

HOUCK NAMED TO GOLDEN SPIKES AWARD MIDSEASON WATCH LIST ^ Mizzou Baseball ace RHP Tanner Houck was named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, announced Wednesday (April 12) by USA Baseball. Houck has earned a spot on the

midseason watch list during each of the last three seasons, making him the first ever Mizzou player to do so in each of his first three seasons. ^ On the year, Houck is 3-7 with a 2.88 ERA in 81.1 innings pitched. He has struck out 81 batters in 12 starts and is limiting batters to .220 hitting on the year. Houck boasts a career 3.13 ERA in

42 career starts and has amassed 287.1 innings, striking out 278 in his career against only 59 walks. Houck is widely considered one of the top college arms and is expected to be drafted in the first round of this summer’s Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

BIESER, MIZZOU OFF TO HISTORIC START ^ Something noteworthy is the start for first year head coach Steve Bieser. The former big leaguer-turned-skipper now has the most wins ever by a first-year Mizzou coach at 31. He is just ahead

of legendary Mizzou coach Gene McArtor, who won 28 in his initial season in 1974.

UP NEXT ^ Mizzou will close the regular season at Tennessee this weekend for a three-game series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. For all the latest on Mizzou Baseball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and

MAX SCHERZER // SP // WASHINGTON NATIONALS One could make the argument that Max Scherzer is the most successful professional athlete to ever

come out of Mizzou, in any sport. A three-time MLB All-Star and two-time Cy Young winner, Scherzer has led the American League in wins twice and is coming off of a season that earned him his second Cy Young Award. He is just the sixth pitcher ever to earn the Cy Young in both the AL and the NL after earning the 2013 award with Detroit.

Scherzer was sensational at Mizzou, earning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year honors in 2005 while being inducted into the 2012 Mizzou Athletics Hall of Fame class. He was drafted 11th overall in 2005 (the first ever Tiger to be drafted in the first round) and began a long line of Mizzou hurlers taken in the first round.

Scherzer debuted in the major leagues on April 29, 2008, He earned the American League Cy Young in 2013, opening the season with a 12-0 mark while starting the All-Star Game. He surpassed the 1,000-strikeout mark that season and finished the regular season with a 21-3 record and a 2.90 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP and a career-high 240 strikeouts. He was the league’s only 20-game winner that season and received 28 of 30 first-place votes in the Cy Young balloting that year.

Scherzer signed a seven-year deal worth $210 million with the Washington Nationals prior to the 2015 season. He tossed two no-hitters (one batter shy of a perfect game against the Pirates in June) and had two game scores of 97 or better, becoming the first to do that twice in a season since Pedro Martinez in 2000 - Nolan Ryan in 1990 is the only other pitcher to do so.

IAN KINSLER // 2B // DETROIT TIGERS Despite spending just one season at Mizzou, Ian Kinsler made quite an impact and was a star that

helped lay the foundation for a Mizzou team that went to NCAA Regionals from 2003-09. His 2003 team was the first regional team at Mizzou since 1996. He was inducted into the Mizzou Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

Kinsler is a four-time MLB All-Star, has twice joined the 30-30 club and was the 2014 Wilson Defensive Player of the Year winner at second base in 2014.

He first joined the 30-30 club in 2009 and hit for the cycle that season as well. While with the Rangers, he set club records for leadoff homers and times stealing third base. He again went for 30-30 in 2011, again for the Rangers. That year, he hit a leadoff homer in each of the first two games of the season, becoming the first player to ever accomplish that feat.

Kinsler was an All-Star in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, doing so most recently with the Detroit Tigers. Kinsler earned his first career Gold Glove last season, honoring the top second baseman in the AL.

KYLE GIBSON // SP // MINNESOTA TWINS After a successful career at Mizzou, Kyle Gibson was a first round draft pick in 2009, going 22nd overall

to the Minnesota Twins. He made his major league debut in 2013 as Tommy John surgery slowed his progress to the major leagues.

Serving as the Twins No. 3 starter in 2014, he had a breakout season in 2015, earning the club’s Pitcher of the Year Award, tallying 11 wins and a 3.84 ERA in a team-high 194.2 innings, striking out 145 batters.

Gibson has been touted as a possible breakout star in 2017, so he is certainly a pitcher to watch as the Twins have hopes of getting back to the postseason with Gibson heading the pitching staff.

AARON CROW // RP // CHICAGO CUBS Aaron Crow was the heir apparent to Max Scherzer and he was outstanding in college, guiding Mizzou

to host the 2007 Columbia Regional. He went 23-8 with a 3.27 ERA in his college career and the highlight of his career came in 2006 when he earned his first career victory in a complete game over Pepperdine, staving off elimination in the regional round as Mizzou became the first ever #4 seed to win a regional that season.

In 2007, Crow went 13-0 with a 2.35 ERA and was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year with four complete game shutouts. He had a 43.1 shutout inning streak that season.

Crow was drafted in the first round twice, going as high as ninth before electing to not sign with the Nationals in 2008. In 2006, he was drafted 12th by the Royals and wound up becoming an All-Star in 2011 with the club. He was moved to Miami but missed the 2014 season with Tommy John surgery.

HEAD COACH STEVE BIESER

S T E V E B I E S E R1nd Season at Mizzou - Head CoachSoutheast Missouri, 1989Career Record: 169-118 // 31-21 at Mizzou @biesersr

Mizzou will usher in a new era of baseball as Steve Bieser has been tabbed as the next head coach, announced June 30. Bieser (pronounced: Bee-zer) will be Mizzou’s 14th head coach and just the fourth since 1937. Bieser comes to Mizzou after an extremely successful career at Southeast Missouri, where he became the only coach ever to win three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Championships and guided the Redhawks to their first NCAA Regional last year since 2002.

A two-time OVC Coach of the Year, Bieser won 35 or more games in each of his last three seasons at SEMO, a feat that had been accomplished just once before he took over the program in 2013. Bieser turned in a .587 winning percentage in his time at SEMO, the best among any coach in program history.

Bieser turned in a banner year in 2016, as he earned his 100th career victory and opened OVC play with a perfect 12-0 record, the best start in program history. The season culminated in a regular season OVC Championship, an OVC Tournament title and the school’s first NCAA Regional since 2002, qualifying for the Starkville Regional at SEC Champion Mississippi State.

Prior to serving as SEMO’s head coach beginning in 2013, Bieser was the pitching coach for his alma mater from 2011-12 and he carried his prowess for developing hurlers into his head coaching tenure. His most notable pupil was LHP Joey Lucchesi, who became the only pitcher to ever win OVC Pitcher of the Year in back-to-back season. Lucchesi shattered the Southeast Missouri and Ohio Valley single-season strikeout records while also consistently leading the nation in 2016 in the category. He became the first Southeast pitcher to win 10 games in 13 years. He was on the watch lists for the prestigious Golden Spike Award, as well as the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s National Pitcher of the Year award.

Following the season, Lucchesi became the highest draft pick ever out of Southeast Missouri when he was selected in the fourth round (114th overall pick) by the San Diego Padres. He was one of two Redhawks drafted in 2016, marking the first time since 2012 that Southeast had multiple draft picks.

“I am truly honored and humbled to have the opportunity to be a part of the University of Missouri community and serve as the head baseball coach,” Bieser said. “I can’t express enough the gratitude I have for Interim Chancellor Foley, Athletic Director Mack Rhoades and the search committee for having the confidence in me to lead this program. When I started my coaching career, I had always dreamed of the opportunity to lead this program. There is a strong tradition and rich history of Missouri Tiger baseball. I understand the responsibility and I am fully committed and ready to continue building the tradition. As life-long Missourians, my family and I feel truly blessed to be part of the University of Missouri and the Columbia community.”

Aside from success on the field, academic success was a hallmark of Bieser’s program at SEMO. He mentored three Academic All-Americans, 10 Academic All-District picks, one OVC Scholar-Athlete, six OVC Medal of Honor recipients and 48 OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selections. SEMO had at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point-average in all four years under Bieser, grabbing one OVC Team Academic Award along the way.

After a successful playing career at SEMO, Bieser was drafted in the 32nd round of the 1989 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He played 13 years as a professional with nine of those years coming at AAA or higher. He made his Major League debut on April 1, 1997, with the New York Mets and played 60 career MLB games.
