APPENDIX 1
Tables and trees of the Family Branches
II
FAMILY TREES
Notes:
• The direct line is highlighted in bold and uses a larger font size
• The female lines are followed until marriage with a direct male line and this is
noted on the particular text box. The reader then must return to the section
indicated and pick the line up at the appropriate location. Continue following this
line to the person required.
• Children are given in ascending order of birth dates from left to right
• With large families, in order to fit on the page width, girls are grouped on the top
line and boys on a line below. Occasionally, several lines are required for each. In
some cases, our direct line has been moved down slightly to give it space for
additional information.
• Spouse names are given without dates unless no tree has been constructed for the
spouse, in which case dates are included.
• Where dates are only approximate the ~ sign is used to mean “about”.
• When a date or other information is still required, a “?” is used
• When a range of dates is possible “<” means before the date given, > means after
that date.
• The earliest generation shown on each family tree is only that for which there is
reasonable evidence for the direct line. In many cases, possible ancestry prior to
this generation is discussed in the text but as the direct line is obscure, there is no
inclusion in the tree
• Only the direct line to the original four families of this document has been
followed through to the earliest verifiable data.
• There may be no record of the births of some of the children in the large families
of early generations. Therefore, some gaps in the birth dates are likely.
