District-wide Cloverbuds The Sunshine Makers Cloverbud Club will meet March 9th (Always the 2nd Thursday of the month) at the Paola Office from 5:30-6:30pm. Any Cloverbud is welcome to come. Clover-buds must be 5-6 years old by Jan. 1, 2017.
Jr. Leaders Meetings The next Miami County Jr. Leader Meeting will be March 13th at 7pm at the Paola Office.
The next Linn County Jr. Leader Meeting will be March 19th at 4:00 pm at the Linn County 4-H Bldg. 4-H Councils The next Miami County 4-H Council Meeting will be March 13th at 8pm at the Paola Office.

4-H Enrollment May 1st will be add/drop deadline and New Member enrollment deadline. Reminder: You must be 7 before January 1, 2017 to enroll as a 4-H Member. If you are 5-6 years old before January 1, 2017, you can enroll as a Cloverbud.

Volunteers Must Enroll All Screened Volunteers need to enroll in the 4-H Online sys-tem as well. Just enroll as if you are enrolling a 4-H’er and then mark yourself as a volunteer. This is the way that we are tracking screened volunteers. Volunteers Enroll Online at https://ks.4honline.com.
Club Leader Meeting The next club leader meeting will be April 27th at 7:30pm .
Volunteer Orientation Volunteer orientation will be held on March 15th at 7:00pm at the Paola Office. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the Marais des Cygnes District then you should attend. Also if you are wanting to be a camp counselor and haven't done the volunteer screening you need to attend. If you are already a registered volunteer with Marais des Cygnes District then you do not need to attend this orientation.
Market Beef Ownership Deadlines and Tagging Dates Miami County Market Beef must be tagged by March 10th. Weigh-in and tagging will be March 10th 5:30-7:30 pm at Miami County Fair Grounds. Linn County Market Beef must be tagged by March 11th. Weigh-in and tagging will be March 10th 7-8pm or March 11th 7-8am at Linn County Fair Grounds.

Livestock Quality Assurance (LQA) Dates All Miami County Fair Exhibitors in Beef, Sheep, Swine, and Goats must attend one of the following LQA classes to show at the 2017 Miami County Fair.
All Linn County Fair Swine Exhibitors must attend one of the following LQA Classes to show swine at the 2017 Linn County Fair.

Both dates will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will cover Level 1 at 6:30 p.m. and Level 2 at 7:30 p.m. Each level will cost $10 so please bring payment with you. Chopped, Clover Edition Save the date we will be hosting Chopped Clover Edition Thursday, June 22nd at Miami County Fairgrounds. Also we will have a contest to help grow our event, participants of Chopped Clover Edition 2016 are encouraged to get more teams/individuals to participate. There will be a place to name this person on the registration flyer winner will be an-nounced and receive a prize at Chopped Clover Edition 2017 during the results. There will be more information to follow.

4-H Regional Day 4-H Regional Day will be March 25th at Wheat Ridge Middle School Gardner, KS. Sign-up will open on Friday March 10th and close on Wednesday March 15th. You will be getting an email on Friday, March 10th with instructions. We also will need Room Monitors for 3 rooms at Regional Day. The sign-up will be sent out with the email on Friday, March 10th.

Linn County Fair All Linn County livestock exhibitors planning to sell at the Linn County Fair Livestock Auction will need to complete a W-9. A W-9 will be attached to your entry form that you will receive at the May 4-H Council meeting. Please complete the W-9 and return it with your fair entries to the Mound City office by July 15th.
Kansas Junior Producer Days Junior producer days are held to provide educational material and hands-on experiences for youth, parents, leaders, and extension agents. Various speakers share information on topics such as selection, nutrition, showmanship, fitting, repro-duction, feeding, and disease control. Talks, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and door prizes are present at all events. Beef and Sheep days are held in the even years and Swine and Goat days are held in the odd years. Horse: 2- and 3-Year-Old Projects Horse snaffle bit projects are due into the local Extension Office by May 1. Along with the nomination, the 4-H member must submit the Horse ID and a $10 fee. The nomination form, a copy of the horse ID (including a color picture of the horse) and fee should to be forwarded to the State 4-H Office as soon as possible, within the May 1-5 week for 2-year-old-snaffle and 3-year-olds.
Three-year old snaffle bit projects must have been nominated the previous year but did not have to be shown to be re-nominated. State Fair entries for these projects are due August 1 in the State 4-H Office. For more information concern-ing the Snaffle bit project check the 4-H Horse Show Rule Book. Also note, that after May 1 the nominated horse can only be shown and ridden by the 4-H member.

What: Come join us to learn the tips & tricks of selecting that grand champion lamb for the show season!

PositionDescription
Purpose:
Serve as a leader, teacher, and friend for 8 youth in a “small family living unit” for the 4 days, 3 nights of 4‐H
camp. A counselor will be responsible for the overall welfare and maintenance of their group with specific
concern given to the social, emotional, and physical growth of each camper.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Must have successfully completed the volunteer screening application process.
Participate in the training at the Johnson County Extension Office on Thursday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Know where your campers are at all times and be present at critical times.
Make sure that your campers enjoy the entire Rock Springs Experience by attending all scheduled
activities and sessions.
Promote a helping relationship by interacting with your living group at meal time, during camp activities
and at bedtime.
Create a spirit of teamwork and responsibility within the living group.
Be aware of where your campers are during free time.
Be aware of health, safety, and well‐being of your campers. Check for illness or injury. Report health
problems to the camp nurses and the county agent.
See that you, your living group, and fellow counselors know and observe camp rules.
Help your living group follow the daily camp schedule.
More specific duties of adult and teen counselors will be given at Counselor Training.
Benefits of Position:

Opportunity to work closely with other counselors and to develop lasting friendships.

If you are planning to do farm work, and it is for someone other than a parent or guardian, and you are 14 or 15 years of age, you must take a tractor safety course following the U.S. Department of Labor requirements before you can be employed at certain hazardous farm tasks. This includes operating a tractor over 20 horsepower.

This school is designed to assist 14 and 15 year-old’s in gaining certification forfarm employment. Youth that wish to drive a tractor or use a lawn mower biggerthan 20 hp require this training if working for someone other than their parents.
Youth age 13 are welcome to take the training. However, they cannot becomecertified until they reach the age of 14.
Participants MUST be able to ATTEND the day long session. Pre-Registration is required by May 19th. This program is co-sponsored by Frontier Extension District and Farm Bureau. Snacks and lunch will be provided.
