Dr. Messamore serves as a staff psychiatrist at the Lindner Center of HOPE. He attends to adult inpatients and is also a member of the Research Institute.

Prior to entering medical school, he earned a PhD in neuropharmacology at Southern Illinois University and then went on to complete postdoctoral research training at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Prior to joining the Lindner Center of HOPE, he worked as an inpatient psychiatrist and researcher at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. He also held an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Oregon Health & Science University, where he helped to train medical students and resident physicians.

He is a specialist in the treatment of depressive disorders and psychosis.

He has published over 15 scientific papers and has attracted numerous grants for research on dementia and schizophrenia. He has served on several editorial boards as a peer reviewer. The Research Institute at Lindner Center of HOPE UpdateThe Research at Lindner Center of HOPE is gearing up for two new studies likely to start in March.

The first is a smoking cessation study. The Brainsway Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (DTMS) device is intended as an aid to smoking cessation. The aim of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of DTMS compared to sham treatment as an aid to smoking cessation in chronic, heavy (>10 cigarettes/day) cigarette smokers in a randomized, prospective, 4 month, double blind, multicenter study design.

The second study is a new depression study. This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, single-dose study examining a novel NMDA receptor functional partial agonist (NR 1074) in the treatment of major depressive disorder. Potential candidates will be males and females, ages 18-56, experiencing moderate symptoms of depression for at least 8 weeks prior to study start.

A Visit from Hong KongThree visitors from Castle Peak Hospital, Hong Kong, spent a day at Lindner Center of HOPE on February 17. The guests included a community psychiatric nurse, an occupational therapist and a social worker. The goals for their visit to the United States were seeing the spectrum of mental health services available in the country, learning about possible enhancements they could apply to their service delivery and gaining a world-wide understanding of mental healthcare. A group of Lindner Center of HOPE leadership provided an overview and tour of Lindner Center of HOPE, as well as spent time with them in discussion of social work services, supported employment, other patient and family support and the Sibcy House model.
