People are waking up to Google+ (hurrah!) so I wanted to share 4 ways to build your
business on this exciting platform
(If you’re still wondering why G+ is so important, watch this video)
Mmspark.com/google-plus-for-biz-why-it-matters
1. Build a Knockout G+ Profile
As with Facebook you’ll need a personal profile before you can create a business page
And there is some debate as to whether to use your personal profile to promote your
business, or whether you should have a separate business page
The current thinking is that it’s best to use your personal profile for all your Google+
marketing IF you’re a personal brand, solopreneur or working online
Business pages are best for bricks and mortar businesses and larger companies
The principles of building your profile are the same whether it’s a personal profile or
business page, and there are three key elements to focus on
Here‘s how to Optimize Your Google+ Profile in 5 Minutes (blog post and video)

2. Build your circles
Circles are your contacts and connections and are sorted by interest,
interaction and topic
You can put people into your circles according to your relationship with them (friends, family) or their business status
(prospect, customer, VIP member)
The beauty of this is that you can tailor the information you share with your circles
So, for example, you might share your holiday snaps with friends and family, but your latest blog post will go out to all your
customers and prospects
Circles work both ways so if someone has you in their circle you’ll receive their
information in a “stream”, which will be tailored according to your relationship with
them, and your interests
This makes for very targeted information sharing
(unlike the other social media platforms where everyone sees everything you post – or < 20% of what you post if
you’re on Facebook!)
Adding someone to your circles means
More interaction
More trust
Higher search rankings= =
3. Use hangouts to engage live
Hangouts are live, multi-person video conferences between Google+ users
These are great, because they can be used for webinars, for showcasing products, or
for live feedback and interaction with customers
They’re easy to set up and they’re free!
Hangouts are great for making presentations to your audience
Be sure to put together an outline or script before you begin to eliminate a lot of the
“ums” and “uhs” you might get otherwise, and schedule the webinar a day or two in advance to give people plenty of time to
clear their schedules
Hangouts offer a level of human contact a standard chat never could, and they can be
an excellent marketing tool if used properly
4. Commit to spending time every day on Google+
This might sound obvious but unless you spend time on Google+ (or any social
platform) consistently you won’t get the engagement and traction necessary to
build your business
Make a commitment to spend 10-15 minutes a day on Google+* working through steps 1-3
and I promise you’ll see results
