Stewardship Bulletin ReflectionsAugust 5, 2018 – 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time“Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not.”
EXODUS 16:4When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten. In the same way today, self-reliance, pride and ego leads to hoarding and excessive surplus of goods and money. Living a stewardship lifestyle helps us discern our “wants” from our “needs.” Living a generous lifestyle reminds us that God will provide all that we need and that we have plenty to share.Learn how you can share your gifts and blessings to support your parish by contacting The Catholic Foundation. FAITH FORMATION
Alpha Registration begins THIS WEEKEND!• Check out Alpha with a friend at our Welcome Luncheon September
9th at 12: 15 p.m. in Johnson Hall.• Alpha will be offered at three convenient times this Fall: Sundays at
12:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.• If you have experienced Alpha, please be sure you invite others to
experience Alpha.
What are our parishioners who completed our first Alpha this spring saying about their experience?
I have felt the need to commit my life to him even more.
My light for Jesus is back!! I feel more at peace. I learned that Jesus has always been with me. I turned away from my faith. Christ did not ever turn away from me. Alpha has helped me to renew my faith and to build a personal relationship with God so I
can hear his voice through daily prayer!!

THE CASE FOR JESUS: THE BIBLICAL AND HISTORICAL EVIDENCE FOR CHRISTDr. Brant Pitre, scripture scholar and bestselling author, uses biblical and historical evidence to bolster the “case for Jesus” by exposing the problems with the many false theories that have been introduced over the past hundred years resulting in widespread skepticism about the reliability of Christian faith. He tackles head-on questions like: Were the four Gospels written anonymously? Did Jesus claim to be God? Did Jesus fulfill the Jewish prophecies of the Messiah? And many more. Parishioner Comments:I found the facts about the Gospel authors fascinating. This helped me understand the historicity of the person of Jesus Christ.
Mary – Dayton, OHDr. Brant Pitre makes a very convincing case for the reliability of who we understand Christ to be.
Douglas – Bristol, UKCDs from Lighthouse Talks are available on a rack opposite the confessional. We invite you to take advantage of these inspirational resources.

The ROSARY…and the Miracle of Hiroshima…
Tomorrow, August 6th, is the anniversary of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in Japan. On that day (also a Monday), at 8:15 in the morning, the bomb exploded with a blinding flash and giant fireball that vaporized practically everyone and everything within a mile of the point of impact. EIGHTY THOUSAND people were directly killed by the blast. There was a community of missionary Jesuit priests living in the rectory of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, less than a mile from the point of detonation. Miraculously, the rectory and all eight members escaped virtually unscathed from the effects of the bomb. They only sustained minor injuries from broken windows. The radiation that followed had NO EFFECT on them. As late as 1976, all eight were still alive without any ailments….no loss of hearing or other long-term maladies. One of the survivors, Fr. Hubert Schiffer, commenting about the experience, said: “we believe that we survived because we were living the Message of Fatima. We lived and Prayed the Rosary daily in that home.” Pull up the Miracle of Hiroshima on your computer to read more.
Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., just before Mass.
