Stewardship Bulletin ReflectionsSeptember 2, 2018 – 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time“Be doers of the word and not hearers only…”

– JAMES 1:22It’s easy to understand the definition of stewardship.

The hard part is living it! What do you do to live God’s word? Do you share your time in prayer with God? Do you use your talent to help those in need? Are you generous with your financial resources? If not, what are you waiting for?Learn how you can be a good steward for God and contact The Catholic Foundation. Visit www.catholic-foundation.org/development for more information.

FAITH FORMATION

Prayer is big! Prayer changes lives and relationships! Prayer unites!Novenas are a form of worship consisting of special prayers or services on nine successive days. When a Novena involves a Saint, the Saint prays with us as they bring their passion for Christ just as they did when they lived their lives for Him. The Catholic faith encompasses Novenas in worship. Praying Novenas as a parish can be a wonderful way to unite us and change our lives as parishioners, school and families, touching every aspect of our spiritual lives.

You are invited to join Pray More Novenas website to enhance our prayer life. Join us by visiting the website www.praymorenovenas.com.

ASK (Adults Seeking Knowledge) is an informal, interactive, fun and educational gathering that provides the opportunity to ask anonymous questions about the Catholic faith or anything regarding religion in general. If you have concerns about the crisis in our church today, please come with your questions. ASK sessions start with social time (complete with food, soft drinks, adult beverages, and time to submit questions) then follows with Father Dave and our Director of Evangelization and Faith Formation, Tina Burtch, answering your questions. Their challenge is answering each and every question in two minutes or less!

Our first ASK of the year will feature a special guest, Kevin Lowry, author of “How God Hauled Me Kicking and Screaming into the Catholic Church.” Join us with your questions about anything faith related, Wednesday, September 5th, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Johnson Hall. Feel free to join us for Mass at 6:30 p.m. and stay for refreshments and lively conversation.

Men’s Discipleship: Men love a challenge and brotherhood. As provider and protector, men carry an important role in leading their family in faith. We welcome all men to this growing community of all ages and stages of life. Our new Men’s Discipleship initiatives offer many opportunities for you wherever you are in your walk of faith. We will focus on simple virtues and habits to benefit your spiritual life and that of your family.

• Catholic Watchmen: Catholic Watchmen is a series of seven disciplines that form the basis to grow into a holy life. A great on-ramp to those new to the faith and yet with depth to challenge any walk. Our first Catholic Watchmen is September 6th, gathering at 6:15 p.m. for dinner in Johnson Hall and Fr. Dave will be our guest speaker that night. Go to our website under faith formation tab for more information. Or, contact Luke Nutter or Bill McWilliams at [email protected].

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

DON’T MISS OUT ON THE START OF ALPHA!• Check out Alpha with a friend at our Welcome Luncheon, September 9th at 12:15 p.m. in Johnson

Hall.

• Alpha will be offered at three convenient times this Fall: Sundays at 12:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.

• Child Care will be offered for the Sunday evening session.

• If you have experienced Alpha, please be sure you invite others to experience Alpha.

• Cost is $40.00 to help us with the cost of dinner each week and covers the entire Alpha 10-week session. Sign up online or in the parish office.

What are our parishioners who completed our first Alpha this spring saying about their experience?I feel such a connection to Jesus. I was really struggling and needed something to push me towards Him. I feel a deeper

connection to my fiancé. I never really knew the meaning behind church and just went because I knew I needed to go. I was a “cradle Catholic” and didn’t understand a lot. Now, I understand and want God to be a part of my every day.

Pray more deeply. Listen to the words of God more carefully. Understand the loving mercy of God. Will get more active in the Corporal works of Mercy.

I’ve always felt committed to my faith. Attending Alpha has been strengthening experience for me. A renewal! It was nice especially during Lenten season.

BECOMING CATHOLIC…Interested???

Sign up for ALPHA! Bring your questions and learn the basics truths of Christianity in a community of hospitality and welcome. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) begins with participating in Alpha. We will be attending the Wednesday evening sessions beginning September 12. See you at the Welcome Luncheon, September 9! Please contact Theresa DeMers at (740) 258-4013 or the Office at (740) 345-9874.

Women’s DiscipleshipWalking with Purpose is a Catholic women’s Bible Study that aims to bring women to a deeper personal relationship with Jesus Christ by offering personal study and small group discussions that link our everyday challenges and struggles with the solutions given to us through the teachings of Christ and the Roman Catholic Church.

group prayer and welcome, and then will break down into small groups for one hour. Our Young Adult Women’s study will be offered at the evening session. This study is geared to young women ages 18-28. Contact Tracey Engle for more information at [email protected] All are welcome! Online registration is now open. The ROSARY …and the Dignity of Labor…

The following thoughts are from an article in the August 2013 magazine Now and the Hour, written by Fr. Joseph Rinaldo. They are perfect reflections for this Labor Day weekend. “The worker is not a production machine, but a spiritual being gifted with creativity, with family and social responsibilities and relationships, with aspirations that transcend the business contracts. Human labor, besides production, is also beauty, art, creation, imagination and religion. It cannot be confined to an exchange of goods. Otherwise, human labor is reduced to performance where the human body acts only for money. The Creator who made him in His own image and likeness has sealed the dignity of man. The image of Our Blessed Mother as Our Lady of Workers inspires intimacy, faith and tenderness. You are not alone, she is saying. Whatever our experience of life, we will always have Our Mother close to us. It is a presence of love, a presence that knows the turmoil of life. MARY IS SAYING TO THE WORKER… ‘HAVE FAITH, I WILL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN AT THE FOOT OF YOUR OWN CROSS.’”

Remember, you and your family are always invited to take part in our weekly Rosary for Peace, every Saturday at 4:35 p.m., prior to our Vigil Mass.
