With the advent of the Internet, andmore importantly fiber optic cables, thereexists a worldwide labor and sales forcewithout geographical and politicalboundaries. The Town of Bristolrecognizes these changes and will attemptto orchestrate this phenomenon to ouradvantage for future economicdevelopment.
Additionally, in our attempt toencourage a more stable and diverseeconomy, we will review other potentialsources for economic development byevaluating our infrastructure, reviewing
- zoning issues and districts, exploringlegislation and researching other existingfederal, state, local and privateopportunities.
Bristol is located in Ontario County, where the job growth rate of 10% is fivetimes greater than the RochesterMetropolitan Area*, the Town of Bristolmust employ an economic developmentplan that can encourage residual andappropriate growth. Major employmentopportunities exist along the 1-90 corridorin the northern part of the county. Due toour relatively isolated location, industrialdevelopment may not be forthcoming toBristol. However, this may be in our bestinterest by allowing us to focus andpromote smaller business developmentsuch as technological, artisan and lightindustrial businesses.
*As reported in the 2000 U.S. Census.

6.0 TOURISM
Grape Festival Scenic Bristol Hills
Bristol is located within the Finger Lakes area, which is apopular tourist destination for national and international visitors. The area has a wealth of pastime activities such as skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, boating, camping and golfing.More passive activities include scenic drives and shopping, with artsand crafts as an increasingly popular draw. The Finger Lakeswineries draw a major number of visitors, while the NYS CulinaryInstitute, located in Canandaigua, is expected to beckon people toour region to learn of and enjoy New York State products.
Seasonal shifts occur in local tourism. During the summer, visitors are the base of tourism. From Labor Day into the fall visitorscome for festivals, wineries and changing colors. In the winter,Bristol Mountain and other area resorts draw skiers and other cold-weather enthusiasts. During the various seasons, outdoorenthusiasts hunt, fish and bike throughout the area.
On its own, the Town of Bristol doesn't draw a significant numberof tourists. In general, we rely on those visitors who pass throughthe town on their way to other destinations.
Our goal is to strengthen the aesthetic and economic value ofBristol as a tourist destination by encouraging the development ofmore lodging, i.e., Bed and Breakfasts and Inns; artisan businessesand other unique ideas such as creating a "Gallery Pathway" of in-home and in-business art and attractions. We feel this can beaccomplished by producing links on the town website and bydeveloping a committee to help guide tourism activities for Bristol.

Parks and recreational opportunities
enhance the quality of life for residents
and visitors to the Town of Bristol. The
demand for recreational facilities from
the growing resident population within the
area will continue to increase. Of prime
importance is to stay current with the
needs and wishes of residents and
visitors and see that these interests are
evaluated and incorporated into planning.
Levi Corser Memorial Park is popular
and well used; its continued maintenance
and possible expansion should be
provided for. Development of new
recreational and park facilities will
require a vision and a plan. Town officials
and residents should work on these
projects together. Recreational
opportunities, both public and private,
should be encouraged and promoted.
