Write the statement. If it is true leave it alone, if it is false change it to make it true.

1. Optics is the study of all forms of light and tools that use light.

2. A flat mirror produces an upside-down image.

3. The angle formed by light striking a mirror is always less than the angle of reflection.

Refraction is the bending of light that takes place at a boundary between two mediums.

Refraction is caused by a change in the speed of light as it passes from one medium to another.

Page 4: 4.2 optics

Rainbows are caused by refraction. The raindrops act like a prism and refract

light, then reflect light off each other.

Page 5: 4.2 optics

A lens is a clear optical tool that refracts light.Different types of lenses refract light in

different ways

Page 6: 4.2 optics

Parallel light rays pass through the lens and are refracted outward.Light rays closest to the edges are refracted

the most.Light rays that pass through the center are

not refracted at all because they pass through at the focal point

Page 7: 4.2 optics

Parallel light rays that pass through a concave lens are refracted outwardLight rays closest to the edges are refracted

the most.Light rays that pass through the center are

not refracted Light ray are deflected away from each

other and do not meet

Focal length- the distance from the center of the lens to the lens’s focal length.
