IntroductionIn our third full international year it is very encouraging to see theinvolvement of yet more educational establishments that, like theUniversity of Teesside, are dedicated to exploring the many andvaried uses of the animated medium. From visual effects toarchitectural visualisation, computer games art to 3d computeranimation, pre-selection week this year revealed moments of geniusthat I am sure will go on to inspire producers and directors workingin established studios all over the world.

'Levels' by Massey University College of Creative Arts student TomMountfort tells of a story of a girl who travels through a variety ofenvironments like the levels of a computer game. Every door to thenext level is different to the previous and normal rules or reality don'tapply. It is imaginative, controlled, colourful and, like a lot of otherentries in this year's Animex Student Animation Awards, explores theconvergence that is currently taking place in the computer animationand computer games industry .

If you think you have what it takes to contribute to this convergence, then send us your work to arrive no later than 1 October 2006.We've known for a while now that the narratives familiar to thefeature film industry are common in the games industry, and vice-versa, however the time has come to recognise and reward emergingstars in this new and exciting field!
