Breaking Open The Word April 9, 2017
Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7 In a tone of quiet sadness, Isaiah describes the buffets and insults given to the Suffering Servant. The passage ends on a note of hope. Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11 In exultant tones, Paul tells the Philippians to rejoice because Christ became man, died on the cross, rose from the dead, and sits triumphantly at the right hand of the Father. Gospel: Matthew 26:14-27:66 This is the solemn narrative of the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew recounts the treachery and betrayal of Judas and then describes the events of the Last Supper, culminating in the institution of the Eucharist. Jesus endures the Agony in the Garden; He is then brought before Caiaphas and Pilate and condemned to death. After His resurrection, the centurions shouted “Clearly this was the Son of God!” Consider/Reflect With the onset of Holy Week, we walk with Jesus through the saving action He did on our Behalf. Because of our need, He became one with us, took upon Himself our sinfulness and redeemed us. Holy Week offers us the opportunity to reflect on our ongoing needs, and the continued love of Jesus for us today. We do not just return to the Holy City to remember the special moments of the Paschal Triduum, but we enter into the saving work which Jesus accomplishes in us today. The prophet Isaiah wishes to ‘rouse’ us to seek God’s help, knowing that through His passion Jesus redeemed us and continues to shelter us in His love. May this truly be a week of God’s grace for us all. How would you have responded in the various situations described in the Passion?

THE LAITY IN THE CHURCH
An eight part series of articles on the role of the Laity in the Church today
7 – Formation
Ongoing formation is essential for every baptized Catholic. The simple truth is that our mission is not merely difficult for us to accomplish: It is impossible – on our own. Only God can do these things; therefore, God will have to do them. And he will. But he intends to do them through us. Therefore, we must know our faith so that we can have recourse to all the gifts God intends to give us to make it possible for us to accomplish our mission. The Church uses exactly the same language to describe the formation of laity as it does to describe the formation of clergy. The Church insists that proper formation in the faith is the “right and duty of all,” not merely a privilege of the few. Not only do priests or religious have the right and duty; we laypeople also must do all that we can to educate ourselves. We need to make sure that the Parish to which we belong becomes a house of lay formation just as a seminary is a house of priestly formation. For formation empowers discernment and discernment is critical if we are to know our gifts and calling as laypeople. The person principally responsible for our formation is not the Pope, or our bishop, or our priest. It is you and me. We have primary responsibility for knowing and living our faith. We must learn the Catechism. We must study Scripture. We must remain close to the Sacraments. To be sure, others play a part in this process and we cannot, and must not, approach our faith as Lone Ranger Christians, utterly independent of the Church. But neither can we be completely passive, waiting for something to happen and for our needs to be met. We must take the initiative as laypeople and see to it that our education is actively pursued and faithful to the actual teaching of the Church, using materials and resources that accord with her magisterial teaching.

FAMILY of the MONTH
MEET THE LIND FAMILY
This month we are honoring Jan and Earl Lind. They have been members of our parish for about eleven years. Both are Lectors and can be heard reading our Scriptures at the 11:30 mass. They are Eucharistic ministers and are part of the apostolate that serves the people at Mystic Meadows. Jan and Earl are the coordinators of the Consolation Apostolate which makes sure everything is in place for the parish’s funeral services. As Knights we are especially proud of Earl because he is part of our organization. He is a past Grand Knight and through his kind and gentle leadership he has helped make our council what it is today. Thank you again Jan and Earl for commitment to our parish and community.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP Tuesdays
Beginning April 18, 2017 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
St. Theresa Faith Formation Center
Losing someone we love through death is one of the most painful of life's transitions. It is at times like this, that we need the love and support of family and friends. But sometimes even that is not enough. We need to be with others, who understand and share our pain.
A BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP can be just the experience we need at this time. Sessions will contain input and optional sharing. This group is opened to anyone who has lost someone in their lives and wishes to come and share their pain. For more information call Gwen at 609-335-5252
BOOK OF PRAYER INTENTIONS
We have placed a book in the Gathering Space & at the entrance to the Daily Chapel for your prayer intentions. At our weekend Liturgies, we will pray for all of your intentions during the Prayers of the Faithful. Please feel free to write your Intentions at any time.

The Living Stations of the Cross: A New Rendition
Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017
& Good Friday, April 14, 2017
At 7:00 PM
Pray with STAY through this still-life re-enactment of the pain and suffering that our
Lord Jesus Christ went through on His journey to the cross. Let us come together to be reminded of
His sacrifice made for us.
Includes teen interpretations of the individual they portray and live music!
Deaf Community Welcome! ASL Interpretation Will Be Provided.
HEARING LOOP SYSTEM
For those of us living with hearing loss, it is often difficult to understand the words spoken during Mass due to the challenging acoustical listening environment. In an effort to improve clarity and understanding, we have received a donation and installed an induction loop listening system. To benefit from this system, you will need to select a seat in the 2 sections of pews (when facing the Altar), to the left of the Baptismal Font and switch your hearing aid, cochlear implant or other listening device to the “T-Coil” or “telephone” position.
SECOND COLLECTION
Easter Sunday – April 16, 2017
The second collection next weekend is our Easter Gift to the Church.
