Greetings from Siena Hills! Summer has come and gone
so quickly! It seems like just yesterday kids were getting
out of school, and now they are completing their first
couple of weeks! That means fall is upon us, which brings
football, cooler weather, and preparation for the holi-
day season. But lets not forget about our wonderful Au-
gust! Our community welcomed 5 new residents, took a
group to the Iowa State Fair, and hosted numerous
events in the community. We look forward to Septem-
ber, with plenty of activities and scheduled Dare to
Dreams for our wonderful residents.
We are a growing community that continues to provide
the best quality care in Ankeny, and are here to give
that quality care to your loved one! Be sure to visit our
website at www.edencrestliving.com, or visit us as 455
SW Ankeny Road for a tour, a meal, and great compan-
ionship. Thank you, from Edencrest at Siena Hills!
From Healthcare Coordinator, Elizabeth Cline
September is National Cholesterol Education Month, a good time to
get your blood cholesterol checked and take steps to lower it if it is
high. It's important to check your cholesterol levels. High cholesterol is
a major risk factor for heart disease, the leading cause of death in
the United States. More than 102 million American Adults (20 years or
older) have total cholesterol levels at or above 200 mg/dL, which is
above healthy levels. More than 35 million of these people have lev-
els of 240 mg/dL or higher, which puts them at high risk for heart dis-
ease. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in your body
and many foods. Your body needs cholesterol to function normally
and makes all that you need. Too much cholesterol can build up in
your arteries. After a while, these deposits narrow your arteries, put-
ting you at risk for heart disease and stroke. High cholesterol usually
doesn't have any symptoms. As a result, many people do not know
that their cholesterol levels are too high. However, doctors can do a
simple blood test to check your cholesterol. High cholesterol can be
controlled through lifestyle changes or if it is not enough, through
medications. Life style changes include eating low-fat and high-fiber
foods, exercising to maintain a healthy weight.
