The Caterpillar 120M motorgrader equipped with the 3-D machine control system was operated by many contractors during the day. Explaining how Trimble’s SPS Rover system operates to Shaun Lackey (C) of Lackey Excavating, Statesville, N.C., are Jeff Hamm (L) of Spectra I.S. and Elwyn McLachlan of Trimble. The Caterpillar D6K XL is outfitted with Trimble’s automated blade control, which allows operators to move dirt more efficiently. Sensors are placed on the boom, stick, bucket and the cab to deliver pinpoint accuracy to the operator. S pectra I.S. held a demonstration day May 19 at the Carolina CAT facility in Statesville, N.C. Approximately 65 area contractors attended the event to learn about the latest technology offered by Trimble through Spectra I.S. The Caterpillar 279C track loader equipped with the Level Best grading box and laser system levels the demo area. Tom McClaster (L) and Reggie Carrol, both of J.O. Flowe Grading, Midland, N.C., came to see how the lasers would be able to help them work more efficiently.
