4th Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan & Expo 2015 6th - 8th February 2015, Goa

Background

Use of Science & Technology (S&T) is an important factor in Nation building. With its rich traditional knowledge and practices, with its youth and above all, with its desire and determination to prosper , India looks at S&T as vehicle to meet aspiration of its people.

Science happens when someone raises a question and then starts the process of answering the question by following Scientic Method. This processes happens in many places: in a laboratory with scientists and academics; on farms with farmers; in clinics with doctors; at sea with shermen; in classroom with teachers and students.

The Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan (BVS) is a platform to bring together all the above who contribute to science. The Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan is a agship program of Vijnana Bharati. To date three Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelans have taken place at Bhopal (2007), Indore (2009) and Jalandhar (2012). The 4th Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan and Expo 2015 is being jointly organised at Goa by Vijnana Bharati, Government of Goa and Goa University during 6-8 February, 2015.

Focal theme

The theme is meant to highlight the developments that make Indian common person's life a bit easier through application of science and technology. BVS – 2015 hopes to bring together people who have to their credit such achievement, to disseminate information about such achievements, and to provide a platform for discussing research with potential for applications in the service of mankind. The Sammelan will also encourage discussion on good practices in different areas: life style, environmental protection, creative use of communication technology and of new materials, etc. The identied focal theme of BVS 2015 encompasses all these concerns.

Vijnana Bharati

Swadeshi Science Movement was started at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru by a few eminent scientists under the guidance of Prof. K I Vasu. At Nagpur meet during 20-

21 October, 1991, it was decided to launch the Swadeshi Science Movement nationwide and to name it as Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA). The following foundation principle of VIBHA

were identied.

Ÿ As a vibrant movement for the development of Swadeshi Sciences

Ÿ As a dynamic Science Movement with a Swadeshi Spirit, interlinking traditional and modern sciences on the one hand, and natural and spiritual sciences on the

other hand

Ÿ As a Swadeshi Movement with modern sciences adapted to national needs

Prof. K. I. Vasu (Founder President Vijnana Bharati), Dr. Anil Kakodkar (Ex Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission) and Dr. Madhvan Nair (Ex Chairman, Indian Space

Research Organization) are Patrons of Vijnana Bharati.

Vijnana Bharati is the largest people's science campaign in India. With its spread in most of the Indian states including SAARC and Middle East Countries, it is

successfully operating for promotion, popularization and documentation of science and technology. The uniqueness of Vijnana Bharati lies in its networking with all sects

of society and operation in almost all India languages. Spreading the knowledge of science and technology in mother tongue certainly ensures manifold success.

Similarly, bringing stakeholders together from different societal dimensions and providing them a common platform for interaction, provides inner route to link science

and technology with developmental programs. Vijnana Bharati is working in following 13 different areas through autonomous institutions, independent organizations

and, as project entities.Ÿ
