When Ptolemy Philadelphus II (285–247 BCE)of Egypt wanted a Greek translation of
the Jewish scriptures he asked the chief priest of Jerusalem for aid. Seventy-two
translators were duly sent to Egypt, six from every tribe, where they worked
independently for seventy-two days on seventy-two versions. When the scholars had finished and their versions compared,
they were all identical and the Greek version was as divine as the Hebrew.

Jerome (347-420 DC) was asked by Pope Damasus to translate the Greek text of the SS to the common language of the people of Lantium (region of central western Italy). In 2Tim 3:16-17, he translated “theopneustos” as “divinitus inspirata”
