OUR Prayers and Gratitude
Aloha Fr. Pascual and the Parishioners of Our Lady of
Good Counsel.
I want to take this opportunity to say “mahalo” for the
150 used church chairs that we received. They will come
in very handy for our parish here in Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel. Upon completion of our Hale ‘O Malia Multi-
purpose building in August the chairs will be spread
through the 8 classrooms and they are truly a timely
blessing for us!
Again, “Mahalo” and God bless you!
Fr. Paulo Kosaka, OFM Cap
4th Sunday of Easter
April 25 & 26, 2015
Acts 4:8-12 There is no salvation through anyone else.
Psalm 118 “The stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone.”
1 John 3:1-2 We are God’s children now.
John 10:11-18 The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep
Today we again hear the voice of Saint Peter in the reading from the Acts of the
Apostles. In this memorable passage he tells us that there is no name other than that of Je-
sus Christ by which we are to be saved. In the Gospel, Jesus tells us of the depth of His love
for us, that He chooses to lay down His life for us. As we listen today to God’s holy word,
let us be grateful that we have such a Good Shepherd to care for us and save us.
5th Sunday of Easter
May 2 & 3, 2015
Acts 9:26-31
Psalm 2
1John 3:18-24

Stewardship FAQS
What is Stewardship? It is a complete lifestyle acknowledging God as creator and provider of all. It is the grateful receiving and responsible man-
agement of God’s gifts, and the eager sharing of them as expressed in prayer, worship, offering and action.
Who is a Christian Steward? As a disciple of Jesus, a Christian Steward receives God’s gifts gratefully, manages them responsibly, and shares
them joyfully, giving back to the Lord generously of one’s time, talent and treasure.
How do I get started with Stewardship? Stewardship is a journey of faith, it is more a process than a program. The key steps in the process can be
summarized as such.
Discern: Reflect on all that the Lord has provided to you.
Develop: Build on your gifts and leverage your talent
Disburse: Begin an enhanced sharing of your time, talent and treasure. How does the Parish Community get started with Stewardship? Each parish is unique and must find the level of stewardship that is acceptable
and comfortable for the parishioners. Most important you need to secure the personal involvement of your key leaders (pastor, staff & lay volun-
teers). A commitment of time, effort, financial resources and prayer for the long range is vital. A parish education program must be
developed to communicate a clear and concise message, one that is repeated and included some way in all other parish programs and
communications. Finally, a willingness to trust that as stewardship is taught and accepted as a faith response, urgently needed human, physical and
financial resources will follow.
For the next month, we continue celebrating the Easter season with
Gospel readings from John, all of which have Jesus sharing stories
inspired by the Resurrection. What does today’s Gospel have to do
with the Resurrection and what does this have to do with how I live
my everyday life?
What has always stood out to me from today’s passage is the fact that
in Jesus’ day (much like today) the shepherd did not lay down his life
for his sheep. Losing one or more of the fold was an anticipated cost
of doing business. Jesus’ saying, then and now, is all the more
startling given His complete reversal of expectations. In part, the
resurrection is so very astonishing because no one expects God to
die. Gods don’t die!
As disciples, we are called to live like Jesus. How often do we risk
ourselves to give lifegiving love where it is not expected or even
wanted? Like intervening at a store when a parent tells a child she is
stupid? Like waving and smiling at a man who cuts you off in traffic?

Pro-Life Reflection
.An angel of the Lord descended from heaven, came and
rolled back the stone and sat upon it. ~Mt 28:2
Reflection: The stone is what sealed human beings in the
grave. By sitting on it, the Angel says that death is
conquered—not only Jesus’ death but all death.
The stone is not going to roll back, it cannot any longer hold
humanity captive to the grave. Our destiny is now the heights
of heaven.
Prayer: Lord, your power is greater than death. May Easter
give me confidence to be a witness to Life!
Intercessory Prayer: End of Life
For those who are about to die: that through our love,
care, and devotion, they might know the beauty of life,
To the moment of their final breath;
We pray to the Lord
