Setting Due Dates
Although due dates can be assigned, they must be fluid to allow students the
latitude through the end of the school year to complete (i.e. device accessibility,
family schedule, residential internet band width).
12-15 assignments should be paced from April 27th through the end of the
regular academic year, averaging 2-3 per week. Setting due dates can help
students manage their time on a weekly basis.
Assignments should be available to allow students and parents/guardian the flexibility to complete work according to their home schedules. If due dates are
set, make certain that students are not locked out of the assignment if more time
is needed to complete it outside of the due date, or if students want to work
ahead. (Please view the video on Creating Canvas Assignments for directions
on how to unlock due dates).
When assigning work be considerate of device availability (i.e. Children from
multiple grade levels in one household).
Messaging for Teachers and Families
• Families are doing the best they can given the circumstances they are in.
• The goal of Key Concepts in Guilford County is to prevent learning loss and to
ensure the main content of each course is covered prior to the end of the school year.
• Teachers should develop 12-15 assignments to cover the Key Concepts.
Students should complete 2-3 assignments per week, understanding that due
dates are recommended and should be flexible.
• Assignments can be graded as Collected, Incomplete or Missing within
PowerSchool.
