from the Principal DECEMBER 5 2012 Welcome to Charlotte Morris and Hadlee Byers, both new families to the school, who recently started in Room 6 and also to the last enrolment for 2012, Niamh Hegan, little sister of Ciara and Elish. We hope you all enjoy your time with us. Camp Experience Today I have the chance to join in on the experiences that the Year 6's are enjoying at Borland Lodge. They are being provided with many a challenge in their four day camp while also enjoying some real camaraderie with a group of peers that they have spent the best of six years together with. The camp experience reminds them that it is when we are faced with daily challenges and the looming reality of the next step in life, it is our connection with others - both close friends and class mates - who help us through the tough times. Year 6 Leavers and School Community Assembly Thursday 13th December at 5.30pm. Mark this in your diary and on the calendar for a great family night out. This is a great opportunity to come together as a school community and acknowledge our Year 6's as they move on to high school and to recognise our major cup winners for the year. Remember, that some of these prizes do not all go automatically to the Year 6's! The assembly is then followed by a community barbeque which is again supported by the ASB bbq trailer - please get those orders into Irene for your family. End of Year Reports These also come home on Thursday, 13th December and will also include confirmation of your child's class placement for 2013. School Sports I would like to acknowledge again the tremendous amount of work done and the support given by our three main sports coordinators - Sheena Smith, Bex Murdoch and Philippa Horton. They have been invaluable in helping keep our many sporting teams and sporting events on the go! Note that the Southern Zone athletics event is on February 25th - which is the Monday of Week 4 in Term 1. Keep an eye out on the school website for an updated list of sports and events for 2014 and other supporting information. Board of Trustees We have our final Board meeting of the year on Tuesday night. Part of the discussion will be on our draft ERO (Education Review Office) report that we have just received this week, and looking ahead to 2013 with our strategic and annual plans and associated budgets. It is always exciting to reflect on a year, to celebrate the successes and to look to the future with some new goals in mind! Aviary Care: Last year we had a great response for aviary care during the summer holidays. If there’s anyone out there happy to go on a roster it would be most appreciated. If we get enough families it means only doing it a couple of times. Phone or email the office if you can help out.Thank you.

Library Stocktake: The library stocktake will be next Monday, 10 December, as this is when it suits most people to help with this big job. Please make sure all books are returned or paid for as they are all due NOW.Thanks.Tania FM.

Stationery 2013: In your child’s report envelope, there will be information about 2013 stationery requirements from Office Max and how they can be purchased online. You are also able to visit the store and purchase if you wish.Next year we will be having the same packs for four teachers and a different pack for the other four. Please note: Some items are only available from Office Max.

Manuka receiving the school shield in assembly last Friday for being the best class at listening, sitting still and appreciating others achievements.

Week 8 Term 4MANUKA welcomes Niamh to our class. We look forward to many happy days learning alongside you Niamh. Our inquiry this term has been so powerful in giving us the skills to get the most out of every learning situation. We have been learning about 'how' to make something happen through the technology design process and also 'what' we need to do to be successful learners through our integrity value. It was exciting to receive the school shield in assembly last Friday for being the best class at listening, sitting still and appreciating others achievements - all big integrity goals for 5 year olds! I am still missing a few photos of your children with their 'special' person. We need these by the latest at the end of this week. Remember you can email them to me: [email protected]. Thanks to those who have sent theirs in - the photos are great and the children are making beautiful gifts with them using the design process.

Certificates: Hailey Monaghan for fabulous reading and Caleb Devery for super spelling.

KOWHAI • We have been writing letters to Santa and I said I would like apretend Christmas tree and a real star - Lucy• We are going to make picture frames for Christmas presents today, coloured in with our favourite colour - AJ• Today I walked to school and I liked it. We have been given a vizi vest to wear so that we are safe on the road - Amilea

RIMU We are into the last 2 weeks of school and hasn't the time gone fast! It is really important over the long holiday break to maintain the knowledge the children have gained over the year. To help with this I will be sending home a bag of books for the children to read and if you go onto the class blog you will be able to find the maths basic facts games we use for the children to keep up their speed. To help with writing it is a great idea to get the children to write a diary once or twice a week as this helps with letter formation and spelling as well as writing. I hope you have fun doing just a little but often so that it is not a chore!

Certificates: Sacha Horton, Ollie Lemin.

RATA are in the create stage of making our photo frames and are really enjoying problem solving and modifying as we follow our plans. This week will be the last week of set homework for Rata. It is really important that the children

keep reading over the holidays. Thanks for your support Evelyn

MIRO There are imaginative creations being formed? We have discovered that what we first planned may not be perfect. Many modifications have taken place with amazing results.
