iii. The Reason
“Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are
evidence that God is with you.”-John 3:2
The Demand for change
The Demand for change
i. A Drastic Example
3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the
Kingdom of God.”4 “What do you mean?”
exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born
again?”John 3:3-4
The Demand for change
i. A Drastic Exampleii. A Call for True Belief
16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world
through him.John 3:16-17

iii. A Stern Warning
18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and
only Son.
19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the
darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.

iii. A Stern Warningiv. A Shining Illustration
20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear
their sins will be exposed. 21 But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are
doing what God wants.John 3:20-21
A Reborn boldness
A Reborn boldness
i. Surrounded by Doubters
After this, Jesus traveled around Galilee. He wanted to stay out of Judea, where the
Jewish leaders were plotting his death. 2 But soon it was time
for the Jewish Festival of Shelters,
3 and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea,
where your followers can see your miracles! 4 You can’t become
famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!”
5 For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.
John 7:1-5
A Reborn boldness
i. Surrounded by Doubtersii. A Man amongst Boys
47 “Have you been led astray, too?” the Pharisees mocked. 48 “Is there a single one of us rulers or
Pharisees who believes in him? 49 This foolish crowd follows him, but they are ignorant of the
law. God’s curse is on them!”John 7:47

iii. A Bold Suggestion
50 Then Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, spoke up. 51 “Is it legal to convict a man
before he is given a hearing?” John 7:50
