lesson 1.5: always on society

Sousveillance refers to the recording of an activity by a participant in the activity, typically by way of small wearable or portable personal technologies. Sousveillance has been described as "inverse surveillance" based on the word surveillance (from the French sur, "from above", and veiller, "to watch"), and substituting the prefix sous, "from below."

lesson 2: Friends matter

• The Obama campaign used Facebook to "replicate the door-knocking efforts of field organizers" on a mass scale.

• During final weeks of the campaign, Obama supporters received pictures of friends in swing states. They were then urged to click a button asking the swing state voters to register to vote, vote early or get to the polls.

• The campaign found that the tactic worked 20% of the time "in large part because the message came from someone they knew."
