NTC Sensors

Floor thermostats is based on termistors

Thermal resistor

Large change in resistance by a change temperature

NTC is used in Floor heating since 1971

The NTC avoids excessive local heating

Negative Temperature Coefficient – NTC

Resistance decreases with increasing temperature

A NTC occurs when thermal conductivity of a material rises

Typically in a defined temperature range

How to find right brand

Remove the sensor from the conduit to identify

Identify brand of thermostat to be replaced

Use customer knowledge to describe or identify

Estimate floor temperature and make use of this in the sensor choice.



When uncertain or when sensor is not listed?

Example

Resistance in DEVIreg Touch shows approx. 22kΩ,

Installer estimates the floor temperature to be approx. 15ºC

DEVI would measure 17ºC

Floor will physically be 2 degrees colder than setpoint displayed

OJ would measure 12ºC

Floor will physically be 3 degrees warmer than setpoint displayed
