Goals of TSA Pre✓™ program

TSA Mission and Vision TSA Agency-‐Wide Mission • Protect the Na0on's transporta0on systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and
commerce Vision • Provide the most effec0ve transporta0on security in the most efficient way as a high performing
counterterrorism organiza0on TSA and the Future: • Since 9/11, DHS has taken significant steps to keep Americans safe. As a result, the homeland is
stronger today than ever before
• TSA will work to constantly enhance its layered approach to avia0on security through the use of con0nuously updated and improved technology, expanded data analysis capabili0es and enhanced understanding of current intelligence
• TSA will look at what is working well and what can be done beOer to strengthen security and evolve security, while improving the screening experience whenever possible
6
Layered Security Approach TSA uses layers of security as part of a risk-‐based approach to protec0ng passengers and our na0on’s transporta0on systems. Mul0ple layers combine to create a much stronger system.
Although checkpoint opera0ons are the most visible layer, they represent just one part of TSA’s security system.
7
Risk-‐Based Passenger Security In September 2011, TSA began undertaking efforts to adopt an intelligence-‐driven and risk-‐based approach to passenger screening with the aim of providing the most effec0ve security in the most efficient way while improving the passenger experience at airport security checkpoints.
1. The majority of airline passengers are low risk. 2. The more informa0on available on each passenger, the easier it is to assess risk. 3. Behavior detec0on and interviewing techniques are strengthened in the screening
process. 4. TSA op0mizes screening processes and the use of technology to gain system-‐wide
efficiencies. 5. Increases security by focusing on unknowns that helps to expedite known/trusted
travelers.
