Saab completes internal investigationregarding consultant contract in SouthAfrica
Saab decided to launch an investigation after details emerged in themedia about a contract with a South African consultant about whichSaab had no prior knowledge.
Saab has now completed a review of the contract and the financial transactions ofthe company Sanip Pty Ltd during the period in question.
Our review revealed that approximately 24 million rand was paid from BAESystems to Sanip. These payments were transferred to the South African consultantshortly thereafter.
"These transactions have never entered into the accounts," says Saab's President andCEO Hkan Buskhe, adding,
"A person emplyed by BAE Systems has without Saabs knowledge signed a for usunknown contract, signed for us up until now unknown transactions as well assigning the audited and apparently inaccurate financial statement for 2003.
The investigation and assembled materials have been submitted to the attorneyTomas Nilsson, who has been asked to comment whether, in his view, theinvestigation material supports Saab's conclusions. All investigation material hasbeen handed over to Chief Prosecutor Gunnar Stetler at the National Anti-Corruption Unit on Saab's behalf. Saab will be at the complete disposal of the ChiefProsecutor in this case, should such a need arise.
"Saab has a zero-tolerance policy towards irregularities. Our internal investigationand openness in this matter demonstrates how seriously we regard this," says HkanBuskhe.

Result of Saab's ongoing internalinvestigation regarding South Africanconsultant contract
Defence and security company Saab has undertaken an internalinvestigation regarding details of a consultant contract that recentlyappeared in the media. The enquiries show that Saab knew nothingabout nor approved the contract. Saab confirms that the contract did
not result in any payments from Saab or Sanip.
Saab has carried out an internal investigation resulting from information publishedin the media in recent days.
"We take the accusations very seriously and have therefore conducted our ownenquiries in order to investigate what took place, says Hkan Buskhe, President andCEO of Saab.
Saab has a zero-tolerance policy regarding bribery and has actively participated ininternational efforts to fight corruption in the industry.
"Our investigations are continuing, but nothing has emerged so far in the numerous
investigations previously carried out by the Public Prosecution Authority to provethat anything illegal took place," says Hkan Buskhe.
The contract that was published by TV4 News and the editorial team for the 'KallaFakta' documentary programme was signed in 2003 between Sanip Ltd andHlongwane Consulting Ltd, relating to consulting services in South Africa. At thetime, Sanip was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saab in South Africa whoseoperations were being run by BAE Systems plc. In 2004, the operations wereformally transferred from Sanip to BAE and the company has been dormant sincethen.
"Our investigations so far show that there has not been any payments made by Sanipto the consulting firm. Nor did Saab know anything about the contract and did notsanction it," states Hkan Buskhe.

Saab has today published a review of Sanip's circumstances, together withdocuments regarding the company's finances and the contract transferring Sanip'soperations to BAE in 2004.
In hindsight, we can state that Saab should have had greater control over Sanip'soperations," says Hkan Buskhe. "At the same time, there is nothing in thepublished contract to show that any irregularities were committed."
