500 Series Multi-Room
Imagine…
A beautiful sounding hi-fi in every room of your home.
No wires, no ugly black boxes, no hassle.
Think hidden technology, stylish wall mounted
keypads, discreet in-ceiling speakers.
Now realise your dream.
Our cutting edge design makes this all possible
at a price you can afford.
What is the Opus 500 Series Multi-Room?
Opus Technologies is backed by Mordaunt-Short, a British hi-fi company, who for more than 30 years have been award
winning industry leaders in loudspeaker technology...
The Opus 500 Series Multi-Room is an innovative, yet wonderfully easy-to-use,
‘whole house’ entertainment system.
You can enjoy up to six hi-fi or video sources, independently,
or simultaneously, anywhere in your home.
In every room where the system is installed, Opus’ keypads and
sleek remote handsets can give total control of your
entire CD and DVD collection and access to a choice of radio stations.
The Opus WCU500 wall control units are an object lesson in
design, combining functionality with elegant simplicity, resulting
in a system interface that provides every zone with full system
control. Status is confirmed via a large easy to read liquid crystal
display that clearly indicates the source selected as well as other
system functions.
1 Built in clock with alarm and sleep timer
2 Indication that selected source is shared
3 High contrast wide viewing angle backlit display clearlyindicates system status
4 Local input allows connection of a local source, such asa bedroom TV or VCR for every room
5 Menu system conveniently hides less frequently usedfunctions such as the setup of bass, treble, balance etc.
6 Wide angle IR receiver allows full remote control of allsystem functions
7 One touch access to your favourite radio station or disc
8 Frequently used CD/Multi-changer/tuner source function control
9 Volume bar gives a permanent display of current volume level
Opus Wall Control Unit
The wall control units fit into either a standard UK (single 47mm BS4662) or American (double J-box) back-box, making them exceptionally simple to fit.
Actual size
A single control unit allows you to listen to up to six AV sources (DVD,
Single or Multi-changer CD, VCR, Mini Disc etc.) including the
system's built-in high sensitivity three
band RDS tuner.
Up to four zones
and four sub zones (eight rooms in total) may be driven by a single Master
Control Unit (MCU). By adding extra MCUs the system may
be further extended up to a maximum of 24
zones plus 24 sub zones (48 rooms
in total).

unprecedented level of integration with that
company's state-of-the-art hard-disk music server.

collection – over 12,000 tracks – on one innovative,
user-friendly device. Integrating seamlessly with the Opus
500 Series system via four special ‘Opus’ outputs, you and your
family can simultaneously listen to different music in
four separate rooms and even browse the collection

VSU500 Video Switching Unit
For even more sophisticated installations an optional Opus
Video Switching Unit is available. The VSU adds full
Audio-Visual capability to the Opus 500 Series
system. Watch and control Satellite TV, Cable, DVD
and other visual sources from any room in the house.
SCU500 Serial Control Unit
The addition of an SCU to your system allows the Opus 500
Series to be integrated with a number of control systems
such as AMX, Crestron and Teletask thus allowing the
addition of touch-screens, integration with
heating/lighting/CCTV and other systems. USB, RS232 and RS422
connections are available.
CD player or Multi-changer DVD player or Multi-changerAdditional tuner
Add these and other source components, from virtually any brand of your choice, to your Opus system.
Learning Remote Control
Opus further demonstrates its versatility and superiority by providing as standard an
intelligent or ‘learning’ remote control unit.
The LRC500 simply learns the infra-red codes from your TV, video recorder, CD player, DVD
player and other sources, to provide full remote access to all your source component functions.
By connecting the LRC500 to the Master Control Unit's cloning port you can also download your
stored code data in a ‘once only’ operation thereby fully programming your Opus system with all of
your source codes in a matter of seconds.
Usable with any manufacturer’s source equipment the LRC500 even includes ‘local’ banks for control of a
bedroom TV, VCR etc. and a lighting bank for integration with automated lighting systems such as Lutron.
SRC500
System Remote Control
A further refinement of the system is that the Opus 500 Series can also be operated by use of this beautifully
styled diecast aluminum remote control.
From its slim profile the handset allows you to perform all of the functions of the keypad at a distance.
Choosing a source or even setting the system's alarm clock function can all be carried out from the
comfort of your couch and the design is so ergonomical and so tough that it can be left in the
hands of even the youngest user.

DZM 20
A 20 watt per channel genuine hi-fi quality
amplifier ideally used to power either a pair of our
premium in-wall or ceiling mounted speakers.
Mounted in a convenient location within the
room (typically in a ceiling void) and featuring a
‘local’ input so that typically a bedroom TV can
be played through the multi-room speakers in that
room. The DZM20 requires no mains input as it is
simply powered by the Opus BTC1 cable from
the MCU500
DZM 50
Powered via a local mains input, the DZM50 is
capable of producing 50 watts per channel of
true hi-fi quality sound.
The DZM50 can be variously mounted to suit
convenience and the ‘local’ input facility enables
a bedroom hi-fi system or television to be
connected to the multi-room speakers in that
room.
DZM50s can also be chained where multiple
pairs of speakers are required.
DZM 100
The DZM100 is capable of delivering a mighty
100 watts per channel.
As with all Opus amplifiers, the DZM100 can
be easily located in a ceiling void or similar
location and allows a
bedroom television or audio system to
be connected and played through the multi-
room speakers in that zone. As with DZM50,
DZM100s can also be chained where multiple
pairs of speakers are required.
Zone Amplification Modules
Opus continues to break new ground with state-of-the-art digital
‘Class T’ zone amplifiers.
Their simple exterior hides a masterpiece of amplifier design. Essentially
containing separate pre and power amplifiers, the various functions
such as volume, bass, treble, balance etc., are micro-processor
controlled while the high efficiency power output stage generates very
low levels of heat, making it ideal for locating in confined spaces such
as ceiling voids.
Mordaunt-Short's 30 + years of expertise in the design and manufacture of
high quality speaker systems has been brought to bear in the development
of the Opus OS165CC and OS165CLP multi-room loudspeaker.
Renowned for their exceptional detail, transparency and musicality,
Mordaunt-Short has produced a speaker capable of
delivering spacious and dynamic
reproduction anywhere in the
home. While this shares many
of the features common to
Mordaunt-Short's highly acclaimed hi-fi loudspeakers, the drive unit and
crossover has been designed to take account of the angles, frequencies and
energy distribution characteristics of in-wall and in-ceiling applications.
The discrete visual design of this product ensures that it is the quality of the
audio performance rather than their appearance that holds
the attention. Where required, grilles may
also be painted to co-ordinate with
existing décor, rendering them
virtually invisible.

How Does The Opus 500 Series Work?
The Opus 500 Series Multi-Room links your home entertainment equipment via a discretely situated Master Control Unit (MCU) to a number of zones
around your home (e.g. bedrooms or reception rooms) and sub-zones (e.g. en-suite bathrooms). These are individually accessed and controlled using Wall
Control Units and System Remote Controls. To connect these components together a specially developed balanced transmission cable is used, which,
unlike most multi-room systems, requires only a single run of cable to carry audio, data and power to and from each zone.
A single Master Control Unitwill serve up to eight rooms.
