Stanton School
From the desk of Mr. Sefcik and Mrs. Peters…
Dear Parents and Guardians, Wow! It is hard to believe that this is the last month of school. The
last day of attendance for 8th grade is Monday, May 22 and the last
day of attendance for 5th-7th grades is Wednesday, May 24.
School registration for 2017-2018 will take place online and will
be open from July 3-22. If you do not have access to a computer or
need assistance with registration, Lotus and Stanton will be open
on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 and the office staff will
be happy to help.
If your child(ren) will be involved in athletics for the 2017-2018
school year, they must have a current physical on file before
tryouts. Please try and schedule your child’s sports physical over
the summer so they are ready to try out for any activity. Cross
country, volleyball, and soccer begin as soon as school starts.
There are many events during the month of May including the
promotion ceremony on Monday, May 22 at 7:00 at Grant High
School and honors night for 5th-7th grade at Stanton on Tuesday,
May 23. Please take a moment to look at the activity calendar and
add the important dates to your calendar.
Stanton School summer office hours are 7:00-1:00 Monday-
Friday. We wish you all a happy and safe summer.
School resumes Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

Mrs. Peters IPA Assistant Principal of the Year
On April 26, Mrs. Peters received the 2017 IPA Lake Region Assistant Principal of the
Year Award. Mrs. Peters works tirelessly with our staff to improve student
achievement. Her positive attitude, kind heart, and caring personality are an asset to the
staff, students, and families of District 114. Mrs. Peters was a 4th
grade teacher at Lotus
for nine years and has served as Stanton’s Assistant Principal for six years. She is a true
professional and an outstanding advocate for our students. According to Mr. Sefcik,
“Stanton School would not be the same without Mrs. Peters and her unwavering
commitment to our students and their academic success. It is a privilege to work
alongside her every day. Her leadership, confidence, and ability to connect to both the
staff and students make my job as principal easier each day.”
Way to go Mrs. Peters; we couldn’t be prouder!

of the Year
Libby
Newcomb
&
Julian
Villarreal
Congratulations, Libby! Libby was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her 8th grade peers for a good reason. Her hard work and dedication have earned her high honors and citizenship through all of her middle school years. As an 8th grader, she has earned straight A’s all year and is ranked as one of the top in her class. In addition to her commitment to academic excellence, she is a highly respected leader, serving as the president of both Stanton’s National Junior Honor Society and Student Council. Libby has also volunteered for the Village of Fox Lake for the past five years. When Libby is not busy studying or serving her school and community, she finds time to participate in numerous extracurricular activities. Libby is a valued member of numerous athletic teams from basketball to track and she was also a shining star in the recent drama productions. These achievements are just the beginning of what will surely be a future filled with success. Congratulations, Julian! Every one of Julian’s teachers speaks highly of him. His hard work, determination, and willingness to learn have allowed him to truly stand out amongst his peers. If Julian is struggling with something in class, he comes in for extra support, works hard independently, and he will continue to do so until he truly understands the material. Throughout his years at Stanton, he has made his mark on Stanton’s athletic program as captain of the basketball, soccer, and track team and is also a key player on the wrestling team. Teammates and coaches respect Julian’s determination to not only do his best, but also to work hard for the success of his entire team. Even though Julian’s wrestling season was over, he volunteered to come in early and stay late, in order to continue practicing with his team’s state qualifiers. Julian undoubtedly helped his teammates be more successful and prepare for this competition. It is this drive that will lead to great things in the years to come for Julian.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 3rd at 1:00 pm WHERE: STANTON SCHOOL WHAT: Project ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously)
Each May, on the first Wednesday of the month, millions of school children all over the globe will exercise simultaneously in a symbolic gesture of fitness and unity to show the world that they do not fit into that negative stereotype of being "physically unfit". It has been labeled as "the world's largest exercise class" by the media. Since 1989, millions of children from all over the world exercise together to promote proper health and fitness habits.
WHY: The aim of Project ACES is to educate children about the importance of lifelong fitness and to HAVE FUN! **EXERCISE can lower chances of coronary heart disease, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, and physical inactivity. EXERCISE has been proven time and time again to IMPROVE brain activity. Even one 30-minute session of exercise pumps extra blood to your brain, delivering the oxygen and nutrients it needs to perform at max efficiency. Cardiovascular EXERCISE also floods the brain with chemicals that enhance functions such as memory, problem solving, and decision making. And new research has found that this kind of exercise may even cause permanent structural changes to the brain itself! In other words, EXERCISE HELPS YOU LEARN BETTER!
Visit the Project ACES website www.projectaces.com for more information.
Every student and staff at Stanton are expected to participate in the fun!
A big round of applause for the students who shared their talent on the
Stanton stage during our annual Variety Show. Mr. Nickels, the show’s
director, said. “Everyone did an amazing job. It’s incredible how much
talent our students have.” The students put on an encore performance
during a student show on April 28.
