STATE OF KUWAIT

LOCATION AND AREA The State of Kuwait is located to the Northwest of the Arabian Gulf, between latitudes °28.30' - °30.06' North and between longitudes °46.30' -°48.30'East. To the North and Northwest, it shares the borders with the Republic of Iraq, to the South and Southwest with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to the East with the Arabian Gulf. Due to the strategic location, it is considered a natural gateway to the Northeast of the Arabian Peninsula which gave it along-standing commercial importance. The area of the State of Kuwait is 17,818 km².

CLIMATE Due to Kuwait’s location in a desert geographic region, its climate is characterized by long dry hot summer and short warm -sometimes rainy - winter. Occasionally, winds blow dust storms during summer months along with a rise in humidity.

The issue of environment protection has drawn considerable international and local attention, whereby environmental studies became a focus of attention of several agencies in the state such as health, industry, science, engineering and other agencies.

POPULATION

The 2011 Census is one of a series of Censuses conducted in Kuwait since 1957. It is the second in the 21st Century and was conducted in April 2011 .The results show that the de-facto population in Kuwait on the night of the count (20/21 April 2011) was conducted (3,065,850) of whom (1,089,969) are Kuwaitis and (1,975,881) Non-Kuwaitis. AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK AND FISHERY

Agriculture plays an important role in the economies of differ-ent countries. Its contribution in economic development is evident through meeting the additional demand for food that results from population growth. The State of Kuwait endeavors to improve the agricultural sector and encourages farmers by assisting them finan-cially, and providing them with agricultural services to develop this sector and make it an important source of national income. OIL Petroleum and Natural Gas Sector represents the main Natural resource, and are considered to be the main source of National revenue of the country. Exporting Oil marked the beginning of a new era in which Oil Sector began to play a key role in the growth of the National economy.

OIL in KUWAIT 1938 Oil was discovered by Kuwait Oil Company in Burgan Oil Field, but

the first shipment was exported in 1946.1949 Ahmadi Harbor ’s South Pier was completed together with a refinery

of 25,000 b/d daily capacity, Electricity Production Station and a Water Desalination Plant.

1955 Oil was discovered in the Rawdatain Field North of Kuwait. 1959 Oil was discovered in the Managuish Field 21 miles west of Burgan, which started production in 1960.

1965 One milliard ton of Oil was produced by now.1991 The first shipment of Kuwaiti crude Oil was exported in August,

weighing 260 thousand ton, after one-year halt caused by the Iraqi Invasion which destroyed in and set fire the Oil fields.

1999 On October 11th, Kuwait and South Korea signed two Oil agreements on boosting cooperation in the field of Oil and Kuwait provides Korea 210 thousands ton of coal Oil yearly. Kuwait on Monday 12th of December.

2006 Natural Gas was discovered in Kuwait for the first time in a large quantity on Monday 6th of March.

2008 Kuwait crude Oil price registered its highest historical level on Friday 4th of July as it reached $136 per barrel. The price started falling at the beginning of August and reached its lowest level of $35.62 per barrel on Friday 19th Dec. On December 3rd Kuwait Oil Tanker Company project for establishment of six liquefied gas tanks buried under ground in Shuaiba Industrial Area was opened.

2009 On August 17th, Equate Petrochemical Company announced the beginning of commercial operations of ethyl benzene and styrene Mwenmr plant of Kuwait styrene company with a production capacity of up to 450 thousand metric tons annually. This is the first time this product is produced in Kuwait.

2010 On 13th of October the production capacity of Kuwait Oil Company has reached three Million barrels per day for the first time as an actual production.

2011 The number of tankers in the fleet of Kuwait Oil Tankers Company reached 24 in October 2011 .

2012 On 7th of March the Kuwait Oil Company annouced that it has singned an agreement with the World Bank to reduce the rates of gas flaring in the world and optimum utilization of renewable energy resources.

WATER AND ELECTRICITY

The State of Kuwait provides unlimited support to the Water and Elec-tricity Sectors through establishment and development of new stations and upgrading existing stations. TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS

It is evident that the transport and communications sector plays a vital role in people and nations life. Because of Kuwait’s distinguished geo-graphical location and its desire to strengthen its ties with the countries in the region and the world, it has given transport and communications sector increased attention to upgrade it to a level parallel-as far as pos-sible- to that of the developed countries.
