GREETINGS

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

During the 53rd National Council Meeting by ELSA Germany in the university town of Giessen different people from diverse nations will meet each other.Diverse characters and interests, plans for the fu-ture and visions of life get together. One thing connects them: The interest in advan-ced legal training and the eagerness towards a fair, respectful and tolerant interaction.

I am happy that you host your National Council Meeting in Giessen again after 2010. You chose the right time because the year 2014 is characte-rised by the 5th Flower Show in Hessen. Many events - from concerts to art projects, from cham-pionships for florists to a many and varied sports programme - fill up this year‘s entertainment gui-de in Giessen, and I can only invite you to visit our ‚Wieseckaue‘, the main zone of the Flower Show. It highlights, for example, our tradition as an university town by the gardens for science. But even so at the river Lahn many exciting things will happen and so it is always worth to go on an excursion.

All in all, your interests and backgrounds are just as diverse as the proposals for the Flower Show.

Therefore, I hope that besides your skilled ex-changes, you will find the opportunity and time to explore Giessen and to pay a visit to our Flo-wer Show.In this spirit I wish you a good, informative and eventful time in Giessen.

Yours,Dietlind Grabe-BolzMayor

Dear participants of the 53rd National Council Meeting,

After 4 years Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) is again venue for the National Council Meeting of the European Law Students‘ Associa-tion (ELSA). I am honoured by this appreciation and welcome you back to JLU’s campus of Law and Economy.

If you took a look at the map before you em-barked on your trip to Giessen, you may have realized that Giessen is situated right in the heart of Europe. This central location has played an important role in making the University of Gies-sen an important centre for academic exchange and in attracting well-known scientists from all over the world until today. Many famous alumni have contributed to JLU’s potential since 1607. More than 26,500 students are presently enrolled at JLU’s 11 successful faculties.

Justus Liebig, JLU’s eponym, was appointed as a professor at the University of Giessen, where he taught from 1824 to 1852. Justus Liebig establi-shed the research area of what is today known as

organic chemistry and revolutionized higher edu-cation by systematically involving students in his research. In doing so, he set new standards in the natural sciences worldwide and attracted many students from all over the world. With the mul-tidisciplinary future concept „translating science worldwide“ JLU follows the Liebig tradition of interdisciplinary synergies, excellence in research training and broad international networking. It offers its academics and international partners an ideal platform for wide-ranging collaboration and puts internationalization centre stage.

ELSA Giessen plays an important role in keeping alive the ideas and tradition of Justus Liebig. The world-wide ELSA network – active in 300 universities in 41 countries – brings together stu-dents from different countries and cultures and thereby creates an indispensable basis for interna-tional cooperation.

I want to thank all eager volunteers for their con-tribution to the 53rd National Council Meeting and I wish all participants fruitful debates and valuable suggestions for their further work.

Dear ELSAnians,

we are proud to welcome you all in our university town Giessen and we are wishing to experience an unforgettable weekend full of important de-cisions, sparkling discussions and lively exchange of experiences!

After we were elected during the 51st National Council Meeting in Bayreuth to host this Na- tional Council Meeting, we immediately started with the first preparations and gained Prof. Joy-brato Mukherjee, president of the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, as our patron.

We would like to tie in with the last National Council Meeting in Giessen in 2010 and to offer you some of the unforgettable elements of this past event. The parties will take place in the same locations – the Bootshaus and the Centralbar. Furthermore, we are offering you a short journey to Giessen because Giessen is situated nearly in the middle of Europe and near to Frankfurt with its international airport.

In 2010, we presented the variety of ELSA with “Unity in Diversity”, too.ELSA stands for internationality. ELSA stands for nationality. ELSA stands for locality. ELSA

stands for practical experiences. ELSA stands for education. ELSA stands for academics. ELSA is a network. ELSA is a family. ELSA is a NGO. ELSA enables new perspectives. ELSA teaches soft skills. ELSA gives chances. ELSA is a jigsaw out of all its members and board-members. ELSA is multifaceted.

Moreover, ELSA has uncountable facets – and where could you get to know new facets of ELSA better than in direct exchange with up to 300 law students at a German National Council Meeting? In addition, we would like to show once again that “ELSA is not the same” with the party-mot-tos “Sky & Sand” and “Hugh Hefner Party”!

In spite of our variety, we are all connected under one vision: “A just world in which there is respect for human dignity and cultural diversity”. It is perhaps this mutual understanding that makes ELSA unique and it is definitely this aspect that you will be experiencing (again) at our national meeting.

Dear ELSA members,Dear Participants of the 53. National Council Meeting in Giessen,Dear International Guests,

All good things come to an end. But an end clears the way for a new start. When my board was elected last year in Bayreuth, no one expected that sides would change that fast – from being the successors to watching our successors going their own way.

The past year will influence my National Board forever. You don’t get this chance to be inspired and to inspire twice. That’s why we are so much looking forward to this NCM in Giessen. It is this NCM where we have the last chance as the German National Board to give and receive in-spiration.

It will be a special NCM since a new generation will take over. Me personally, I am especially loo-king forward to the elections. It is a big step to be courageous enough to present yourself in front of a plenary. I hope that a lot of you will take this step. It is an unbelievable chance working full-

time for ELSA that everyone should take.

We will watch football together, party together, work in the workshops together, have fruitful discussions in the plenary together and we will elect a new National Board together. We will bring something to an end and start something new together.May we have great success, fun, energy and moti-vation for this weekend! Let’s make the last NCM of this term to a legendary one!

Enjoy the NCM and the hospitality of our hosts from Giessen.

To a good end and an even better start!
