I thank our committee members, volunteers, members, and Tennis Factory coaches for being so responsive to accommodate changes at the club. We will continue to observe all government advice and directions whilst keeping the club available for our members, and I look forward to the Awards presentations and Wind Up Dinner as welcome celebrations for the club community to gather again. And finally, a big thank you to Tony from the City of Subiaco Grounds Department for looking after our grass courts and keeping them going to allow completion of the competition matches! Notice of AGM and Nominations: The Annual General Meeting will be held at the club on Saturday 25 July 2020 commencing at 3.00pm.
Nominations: Nominations are now open for election to the Committee. Nominations will close on 24 July 2020, 1 day before the Annual General Meeting on 25 July 2020. Messages from your Captains: Social (Vlado Raich, Captain) Club 2019/2020 tournaments and championships have almost (95%) completed, the last final match Men’s Single Vlado vs Rob is scheduled on Saturday 11th July, weather permitting. Thanks to all players, we have had good numbers considering the situation and delay.
Adult Pennants (Ian Singleton, Captain) Brendan Jones has managed a clean sweep of the Open Club Championships that we have completed, winning the men’s doubles with Mark Mccallum and mixed doubles with Charley Baxter. The first point that follows from that is that we did not play the ladies singles or doubles. In the men’s singles Brendan made his way to the finals through Ian and Jaimes whilst Rhett, as always reaching top form at the end of the grass season, defeated Dean and then our number two seed Iain in the semi-final. That was back in March and then we had a long COVID enforced break before the final at the beginning of June. On a soft court favouring Rhett, Brendan held his nerve as Rhett threatened a come back winning 6-2, 6-3 and serving at an amazing 85% of first serves in. In the Men’s doubles Rhett and Iain twice came back from loosing positions to make it through to the final and almost managed again narrowly loosing to defending champions Brendan and Mark 10-12 in a match tie break.

It was so nice for the juniors to play some competitive tennis again when in June we were able to play the junior club champs which were originally due to be played in March. The event was hosted over 3 Sundays in order to manage numbers for social distancing, and we were lucky enough to have some great weather including a great day for the finals day. Participant numbers were great with 46 players taking part in the event. The event was played in good spirits and we know the kids really loved getting out and competing again.

Winter Pennants Winter pennants in a newly revised (covid-times) format begins this July. The season which runs for 7 rounds and also includes 2 rounds of finals where all teams play regardless of ladder finish. Teams are slightly smaller with 3 players playing each week rather than 4 and matches are played to time. We have 5 junior teams competing for OPTC in the following divisions:

Tennis Factory Coaching News: Covid to June April to June coaching has been crazy but we are so thankful to have been able to get out and coach again considering the impact covid has had on so many lives and businesses. In total we were shutdown for 6 days and then we were able to begin to conduct individual private lessons again, which we did for around 5-6 weeks. From about mid-May we have been able to start coaching small groups and now for the past 3 or 4 weeks it seems more and more like we are back to normal again. Although we are down on numbers compared to usual, we are all (the staff and I) so grateful for the support members have given us in getting us back on our feet again. Thank you!

These camps are perfect for kids aged 4 – 14 years who are learning to play or are still developing their tennis skills.
July School Holiday Advanced Junior Clinic This clinic is perfect for junior players who can already play. Pitched at green (Green Plus level and above) and yellow ball pennant level players the clinics focus on match-play and tactical based drills. The clinic runs in the last week of the July holidays from 1-3pm.

Term 3 coaching – July to September All of the staff and I are looking forward to Term 3 and we have our fingers crossed that covid stays away. Term 3 begins the week of Monday 20th July and we return to running for an 8-week period. Our programs will return to our pre-covid timetable and lessons which had been shortened due to covid will now return to 1.5 hours again. The lessons returning to 1.5 hours are mainly our Squads and Adult coaching programs.
