ELECTRICAL SAFETY

• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. TOOL USE AND CARE

• Secure the work piece. useclamporotherpracticalwaytoholdtheworkpiecetoastableplatform.Holdingtheworkpiecebyhandoragainstyourbodyisunstableandmayleadtolossofcontrol.

• Do not force the power tool. Thetoolwillperformthejobbetterandsaferatthefeedrateforwhichitisdesigned.forcingthetoolcouldpossiblydamagethetoolandmayresultinpersonalinjury.

• Use the correct power tool for the job. Don’tforcethetoolorattachmenttodoajobforwhichitisnotdesigned.

• Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off. Anytoolthatcannotbecontrolledwiththeswitchisdangerousandmustberepairedorreplacedbyanauthorizedservicecenter.

• Turn power tool off, and disconnect the plug fromthepowersourceand/orbatterypackfromthepowertoolbeforemakinganyadjustments,changingtheaccessories,orstoringthetools. Suchpreventivesafetymeasuresreducetheriskofanaccidentalstartupwhichmaycausepersonalinjury.

• Store idle tool out of reach of children and other inexperienced persons. Itisdangerousinthehandofuntrainedusers.

• Maintain power tools with care. Checkforproperalignmentandbindingofmovingparts,componentbreaks,andanyotherconditionsthatmayaffectthetool’soperation.Aguardoranyotherpartthatisdamagedmustbeproperlyrepairedorreplacedbyanauthorizedservicecentertoavoidriskofpersonalinjury.

• Use recommended accessories. usingaccessoriesandattachmentsnotrecommendedbythemanufacturerorintendedforuseonthistypetoolmaycausedamagetothetoolorresultinpersonalinjurytotheuser.Consulttheoperator’smanualforrecommendedaccessories.

• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properlymaintainedcuttingtoolswithsharpcuttingedgesarelesslikelytobindandareeasiertocontrol.

• Feed the work piece in the correct direction and speed. feedtheworkpieceintoablade,cutter,orabrasivesurfaceagainstthedirectionofthecuttingtool’sdirectionofrotationonly.Incorrectlyfeedingtheworkpieceinthesamedirectionmaycausetheworkpiecetobethrownoutathighspeed.

• Never leave the tool running unattended, turn the power off. Donotleavethetooluntilitcomestoacompletestop.

• Never start the power tool when any rotating component is in contact with the work piece.

WArNING: Use of this tool can generate and disburse dust or other airborne particles, including wood dust, crystalline silica dust and asbestos. Direct particles away from face and body. Always operate tool in a well-ventilated area and provide for proper dust removal. Use dust collection system wherever possible. Exposure to the dust may cause serious and permanent respiratory or other injury, including silicosis (a serious lung disease), cancer, and death. Avoid breathing the dust, and avoid prolonged contact with the dust. Allowing dust to get into your mouth or eyes, or lay on your skin may promote absorption of harmful material. Always use properly fitting NIOSH/OSHA approved respiratory protection appropriate for dust exposure, and wash exposed areas with soap and water.

SERVICE

• Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person usingonlyidenticalreplacementparts. Thiswillensurethatthesafetyofthepowertoolismaintained.

• Service your power tool periodically. Whencleaningatool,becarefulnottodisassembleanyportionofthetoolsinceinternalwiresmaybemisplacedorpinched.

EXTENSION COrDSGrounded tools require a three wire extension cord.Doubleinsulatedtoolscanuseeitheratwoorthreewireextensioncord.Asthedistancefromthepowersupplyoutletincreases,youmustuseaheaviergaugeextensioncord.usingextensioncordswithinadequatelysizedwirecausesaseriousdropinvoltage,resultinginlossofpowerandpossibletooldamage.Refertothetableshownbelowtodeterminetherequiredminimumwiresize.Thesmallerthegaugenumberofthewire,thegreaterthecapacityofthecord.forexample:a14-gaugecordcancarryahighercurrentthana16-gaugecord.Whenusingmorethanoneextensioncordtomakeupthetotallength,besureeachcordcontainsatleasttheminimumwiresizerequired.Ifyouareusingoneextensioncordformorethanonetool,addthenameplateamperesandusethesumtodeterminetherequiredminimumwiresize.

Guidelines for Using Extension Cords• Ifyouareusinganextensioncordoutdoors,besureitismarkedwiththesuffix“W-A”(“W”inCanada)to

indicatethatitisacceptableforoutdooruse.• Besureyourextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.Alwaysreplaceadamaged

extensioncordorhaveitrepairedbyaqualifiedpersonbeforeusingit.• Protectyourextensioncordsfromsharpobjects,excessiveheat,anddamporwetareas.

• Hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces whenperforminganoperationwherethetoolmaycontacthiddenwiring.Contactwitha“live”wirewillmakeexposedmetalpartsofthetool“live”andshocktheoperator.

• DANGEr! Keep hands away from cutting area and blade. Keepyoursecondhandonauxiliaryhandle,ormotorhousing.Ifbothhandsareholdingthesaw,theycannotbecutbytheblade.Keepyourbodypositionedtoeithersideofthesawblade,butnotinlinewiththesawblade.KICKBACKcouldcausethesawtojumpbackwards.(See“CausesandOperatorPreventionofKickback”)Donotreachunderneaththework.Theguardcannotprotectyoufromthebladebelowthework.Donotattempttoremovecutmaterialwhenbladeismoving.

CAUTION: Bladescoastafterturnoff.Waituntilbladestopsbeforegraspingcutmaterial.

• Check lower guard for proper closing before each use.Donotoperatesawiflowerguarddoesnotmovefreelyandcloseinstantly.Neverclamportiethelowerguardintotheopenposition.Ifsawisaccidentallydropped,lowerguardmaybebent.RaisethelowerguardwiththeRetractingLeverandmakesureitmovesfreelyanddoesnottouchthebladeoranyotherpart,inallanglesanddepthsofcut.Tochecklowerguard,openlowerguardbyhand,thenreleaseandwatchguardclosure.AlsochecktoseethatRetractingLeverdoesnottouchtoolhousing.LeavingbladeexposedisVeRYDANGeROuSandcanleadtoseriouspersonalinjury.

• Check the operation and condition of the lower guard spring. Iftheguardandthespringarenotoperatingproperly,theymustbeservicedbeforeuse.Lowerguardmayoperatesluggishlyduetodamagedparts,gummydeposits,orabuildupofdebris.

• Lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts suchas“PocketCuts”and“CompoundCuts.”RaiselowerguardbyRetractingLever.Assoonasbladeentersthematerial,lowerguardmustbereleased.forallothersawing,thelowerguardshouldoperateautomatically.

• Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade beforeplacingsawdownonbenchorfloor.Anunprotected,coastingbladewillcausethesawtowalkbackwards,cuttingwhateverisinitspath.Beawareofthetimeittakesforthebladetostopafterswitchisreleased.

• NEVEr hold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg.Itisimportanttosupporttheworkproperlytominimizebodyexposure,bladebinding,orlossofcontrol.

• When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide.Thisimprovestheaccuracyofcutandreducesthechanceforbladebinding.

• Always use blades with correct size andshape(diamondvs.round)arborholes.Bladesthatdonotmatchthemountinghardwareofthesawwillruneccentrically,causinglossofcontrol.

• Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts.Thebladewashersandboltwerespeciallydesignedforyoursaw,foroptimumperformanceandsafetyofoperation.

• Causes and operator prevention of Kickback:Kickbackisasuddenreactiontoapinched,boundormisalignedsawblade,causinganuncontrolledsawtoliftupandoutoftheworkpiecetowardtheoperator.

*Whenthebladeispinchedorboundtightlybythekerfclosingdown,thebladestallsandthemotorreactiondrivestheunitrapidlybacktowardtheoperator.

*Ifthebladebecomestwistedormisalignedinthecut,theteethatthebackedgeofthebladecandigintothetopsurfaceofthewoodcausingthebladetoclimboutofthekerfandjumpbacktowardtheoperator.

*Kickbackistheresultoftoolmisuseand/orincorrectoperatingproceduresofconditionsandcanbeavoidedbytakingproperprecautionsasgivenbelow:

>MaintainafirmgriponthesawandpositionyourbodyandarminawaythatallowsyoutoresistKICKBACKforces.KICKBACKforcescanbecontrolledbytheoperator,ifproperprecautionsaretaken.

> Whenbladeisbinding,orwheninterruptingacutforanyreason,releasethetriggerandholdthesawmotionlessinthematerialuntilthebladecomestoacompletestop.NeverattempttoremovethesawfromtheworkorpullthesawbackwardwhilethebladeisinmotionorKICKBACKmayoccur.Investigateandtakecorrectiveactionstoeliminatethecauseofbladebinding.

>Whenrestartingasawintheworkpiece,centerthesawbladeinthekerfandcheckthatteetharenotengagedintothematerial.Ifsawbladeisbinding,itmaywalkuporKICKBACKfromtheworkpieceasthesawisrestarted.

> SupportlargepanelstominimizetheriskofbladepinchingandKICKBACK.Largepanelstendtosagundertheirownweight.Supportsmustbeplacedunderthepanelonbothsides,nearthelineofcutandneartheedgeofthepanel.

>Donotusedullordamagedblades.unsharpenedorimproperlysetbladesproducenarrowkerf,causingexcessivefriction,bladebinding,andKICKBACK.

>Bladedepthandbeveladjustinglockingleversmustbetightandsecurebeforemakingcut.Ifbladeadjustmentshiftswhilecutting,itwillcausebindingandKICKBACK.

ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS

WArNING: Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged before adjusting, adding accessories, or checking a function on the tool.

WArNING: 4-1/2” is the maximum blade capacity of your saw. Never use a blade that is too thick to allow the outer flange washer to fit properly on the spindle. Too thick a blade will prevent the blade bolt from securing the blade on the spindle. Larger diameter blades will contact the blade guards. Either situation could result in a serious accident.

BLADE INSTALLATION ( FIG 2,3,4 )• unplugyourcircularsaw.• Press and hold the spindle lock button (19). Rotate the blade

spindleuntilitengages.• usingtheAllenwrench(9)provided,removethebladeboltand

washer(13)byturningitclockwise.• Removetheouterflange(13b).• Lift the lower guard and slide the blade onto the spindle.The

arrowonthesawblademustmatchthearrowshowingdirectionofrotationontheguard.

untilitengages.• Removethebladeboltandwasherbyturningitclockwisewith

theAllenwrench(9)provided.• Removetheouterflange.• Liftthelowerbladeguard.• Removethebladefromthespindleandoffthesaw.

ADJUSTING THE DEPTH OF CUT (FIG 5)• unplugyourcircularsaw.• Loosenthedepthclamplever(17).• Movethebase(3)upordowntothedesireddepthasindicated

onthedepthguidebracket(16). OR• Raisethelowerbladeguardandplacethesawbaseonthework

piecetobecutwiththesawbladepositionedagainsttheedge.Holdthesawbasedownontheworkpiecesurface,thenraiseorlowerthemotorhousingtoobtainthedesireddepthofcutusingtheworkpieceedgeasareference.

• Securethebasebytighteningthelever.

NOTE:Alwaysmaintain thecorrectbladedepthsetting.forallcuts thebladedepthshouldnotexceed1⁄4”belowthematerialbeingcut.excessivebladedepthincreasesthechanceofsawKICKBACK.

BEVEL ANGLE ADJUSTMENT (FIG 5)• Loosenthebevelclamplever(11)onthefrontofthesawbase.• Tiltthesawbase(3)untilthedesiredangleisindicatedonthebevelscalebracket(10).• Tightenthebevelclampleversecurely.• Alwaysmakeatestcutinscraplumberandmeasurethecutangletoconfirmthebevelangleissetproperly.If

necessary,adjustthebevelangleappropriatelybeforecuttingtheworkpiece.

INSTALLING THE RIP GUIDE (FIG 6) Whencuttinglumberlengthwiseyouareusuallycutting“with”thewood’sgrainratherthenacrossthegrain.Cutting“with”thegrainofwoodiscalled“ripping”oraripcut.Sinceripcutstendtobelengthy it can be difficult to accurately follow the guideline theentiredistanceofthecut.Toassisttheoperatortoobtainastraightripcut,astraightedgecanbeclampedtotheworkpieceorthesuppliedripguidecanbeused.Toinstalltheripguideonyoursaw,performthefollowingsteps.

• unplugyourcircularsaw.• Inserttheripguidethroughthetwoslotsonthesawbaseatthefrontofthesaw,startingwithslotintheleft

sideedgeofthebase.• Slidetheguidethroughtheslotsuntilitextendsouttherightsideofthebase.• Adjusttheripguideforthedesiredwidthofcutandthensecurelytightenthelockingscrew(12)inthecenter

tosecuretheripguideinposition.

WArNING: To avoid personal injury and damage to the work piece, extend the rip guide through all slots on the base.

INSTALLING THE VACUUM ADAPTOR HOSE (FIG 7)

A vacuum adaptor hose has been supplied with the tool.Whenusedcorrectly itcanhelpremovedust,chipsandcuttingdebrisfromthecuttingarea.

1. Connect the small end of the vacuum adaptor to the dustextractionportonthetool.

2.Connecttheotherendofthevacuumadaptortotheendofavacuumhose.

OPErATION

STARTING AND STOPPING THE SAW (FIG 8)

WArNING: Before plugging in the tool, always check to see that the tool is switched off. Accidently starting the saw could cause personal injury.

To start the saw,depressandholdtheLock-OffButton(14),thendepressthetriggerswitch(15).

NOTE: Alwaysletthebladereachfullspeedbeforeguidingthesawintotheworkpiece.

WArNING: The blade coming into contact with the work piece before reaching full speed could cause your saw to KICKBACK towards you resulting in serious personal injury.

To stop the saw, releasethetriggerAllowthebladetocometoacompletestop.

NOTE: Donotremoveyoursawfromtheworkpiecewhilethebladeisstillmoving.

• Holdthetoolfirmlywithyourhand.• Avoidplacingyourhandontheworkpiecewhilemakingacut.• Placetheworkpiecewiththe“good”sidedown.• Securelyclamptheworkpiecesoitwillnotmoveduringthecut.• Placeaclampnearthecuttofurthersupporttheworkpiece.• Drawaguidelinealongthedesiredpathofcutbeforestartingyoursaworthecut.• Moveandkeepthecordawayfromthecuttingarea.Positionthecordtopreventitfromhanginguponthework

pieceandyoufromstandingortrippingonthecordwhilecutting.

DANGEr: If, while operating the saw, the cord hangs up on the work piece or other object during a cut, release the switch trigger immediately. Unplug the saw and reposition the cord to prevent it from hanging up again.

CROSS CUTTING AND RIP CUTTINGCuttingdirectlyacrossthegrainofapieceofwoodiscalledcrosscuttingandislikelythemostcommontypeofcutdonewithacircularsaw.Cuttingwoodlengthwise,or“with”thegrain,iscalledripcutting.However,it’smostoftenreferredtosimplyasripping.Bothtypesofcutsareperformedinthesamemannerwiththeexceptionofthemethodsusedtosupportandsecuretheworkpieceforcutting.Afteryouhavesecuredtheworkpieceinpositionwithclampsorsimilardevices,preparedtheworkarea,positionedthecordsoitwon’tbecutorbecomehungup,performedthesawsetupadjustments,madethenecessarymeasurements,drawnastraightguideline,andputonyoureyeprotection,youcanbeginthecuttingoperation.

• Holdthetoolfirmly.• Setthefrontportionofthesaw’sbaseontheworkpiecetobecutwithouttheblademakinganycontact.Align

theline-of-cutindicatornotchontherightsideofthebasewithyourguideline.• Turnthesawonbydepressingtheswitchtriggerandwaituntilthebladereachesfullspeed.• easethetoolforwardovertheworkpiecesurface,keepingitflatandadvancingsmoothlywhilefollowingyour

guideline,untilsawingiscompleted.• Releasetheswitchtrigger.Waitforthebladetocompletelystop.Checkthatthelowerguardhasreturnedto

positionsurroundingtheblade.Nowyoucansafelyremovethesawfromtheworkpieceandsetitdownoutoftheway.

• Toachievecleancuts,keepyoursawinglinestraightandspeedofadvanceuniform.• Ifthecutfailstoproperlyfollowyourintendedcutline,donotattempttoturnorforcethetoolbacktothecut

line.Doingsomaybindthebladeandleadtodangerouskickbackandpossibleseriousinjury.Instead,releasetheswitchtrigger,waitforthebladetostop,andthenremovethetool.Realignsawonanewcutguidelineandstartthecutagain.

• Avoidpositioningyourselfsothatyou’reinthepathofchipsandwooddustbeingejectedfromthesaw.

BEVEL CUTTINGBevelcutsaremadeusingthesametechniqueascrosscutsandrippingdescribedintheprevioussection.Thedifferenceisthatthebladeissetatanangle(tilted)between0°and45°.

Abevelcutmadeatanangletotheedgeofaboardiscalledacompoundmiter.Somecompoundcutsmayrequireyoutomanuallyretractthelowerguardtoallowthebladetoenterintoand/orthroughthecut.

Therearetoolsbettersuitedforbevelandcompoundcutsthanthehandheldcircularsaw.Althoughtheinnerline-of-cutindicatornotchaidstheoperatorinfollowingtheircutguideline,thetiltedmotorhousing,however,obstructstheirabilitytoseetheblademakingaccuratecutsdifficult.Beforetakingonaprojectwithnumerouscompoundorbevelcutsit’ssuggestedthattheinexperiencedsawuserspendtimemakingpracticecutsinscraplumbertobecomefamiliarwithandovercomedifficultiesassociatedwithcompound/bevelcutting.

POCKET CUTSApocketcutisacutthatmustbemadeinsidetheareaoftheworkpieceratherthanstartingfromanoutsideedgeandworkinginward.Pocketcutscanbeverydangerousforthenovicetoattemptbecauseoftheneedtomanuallyretractthelowerguardandperformaplungecutwhichispotentiallyhazardous.

• Adjustthebevelsettingtozero.• Setthebladetothecorrectbladedepthsetting.• Swingthelowerbladeguardupbyusingthelowerbladeguardlever.

NOTE:Alwaysraisethelowerbladeguardwiththelevertoavoidseriousinjury.

• Holdthelowerbladeguardbythelever.• Restthefrontofthebaseflatagainsttheworkpiecewiththerearpartofthesawelevatedsothebladedoes

nottouchtheworkpiece.• Startthesawandletthebladereachfullspeed.• Guidethesawdownintotheworkpieceandmakethecut.

WArNING:Always cut in a forward direction when pocket cutting. Cutting in the reverse direction could cause the saw to climb up on the work piece and back toward you.

• Releasethetriggerandallowthebladetocometoacompletestop.• Liftthesawfromtheworkpiece.• Repeatthisprocedurefortheremainingsides,andthenclearthecornersoutwithahandsaworjigsaw.

WArNING:Never tie the lower blade guard in a raised position. Leaving the blade exposed could lead to serious injury.

CUTTING WITH RIP CUTTING TRACK (OPTIONAL)

AnoptionalRipCuttingTrackSystem(GAPCS203)isavailable(notincluded)tomakelongaccuratestraightripcuts.Tousethetoolwiththeripcuttingtracksystem,followthestepsbelow.

IMPOrTANT!Theworkpiecemusthaveaflatsurface.Otherwisethecuttingprocesswillnotbestableandwillleadtopoorcuttingaccuracy.

IMPOrTANT!ThesawonlyworkswiththeRipCuttingTrackingSystemwithnobevel.Makesurethebevelsettingonthesawisin0°positionbeforecutting.

• Assemblethetracks.• Stabilizethetrackontheworkpiece.• Mountthefrontportionofthesawbaseonthestartendofthe

trackbyinsertingtherightsideedgeofthebaseintotheslotonthetrack.Makesurethebladeisnotcontactingtheworkpiecetobecut.

• Aligntheindicatorlineonthebasetothecuttinglinemarkedonworkpiece.

• SecurethetrackbyusingtheG-Clampsprovidedwiththetracksystem.

• Switchonthetoolandwaitforamomentforthebladetorunuptospeed.Pushthesawgentlyforwardalongthetrack.(Neverdrawthetoolbackwards.)

• Oncethecuthasbeenfinished,releasetheswitchtrigger.Waitforthebladetocompletelystopbeforeremovethesawoffthetrack.

• Therubberonthetrackwillbecutoffduringfirstcutting.Thisisnormal.
