The Yardener who yearns for vegetables from his garden all summer long should make his preparations first from his desk or easy chair.

Plan crop plantings and bear tllis in mind: never follow a root crop, (beets or carrots for example), with another root crop. Follow with a leaf crop (lettuceendive), or other aboveground cro,ps.

INDEPENDENCE Tuesday, July 4th, is Independ

ence Day and most Americans W1ll tty flags and try to celebrate the day in some way. Unfortunately too many will think of it as just another holiday. Many will sleep late, ha\'esome kind of fun, or · do some long-deiayed taik around' the house. Perhaps some of us will watch ths ftreworkl and unfortunately some wW use poor

. judgment and get themselves or someone else into trouble.

Too few of us wW remember the reason for the holiday and even fewer will trouble themselves to give thankS ·for our American heritage or rejoice in their knowledge of the treasurer that is ours. Even fewer are those who will rededicate theiilSelves to the task of bringing to greater
