Community- Panther PRIDE We work as a team to

earn points towards a class party.

Each day in Room 19 is a new day, and a fresh start!

We have a weekly class meeting, share about our weekends, our joys, and fun Friday questions.

3 = Consistent Understanding and ability to apply grade level standards

independently

It does not mean A or B. It is not equivalent to a percent.

“Student consistently and independently shows mastery of the standard.”

2 = Partial Understanding and ability to apply grade level standards and

expectations with guidance

1 = Minimal Understanding and ability to apply grade level standards and

expectations with guidance

Grades will be sent home with the student. Be on the lookout in their homework

folders, not the “White Envelope.”

A Word About Reading Levels● Reading levels are guides to help me.

● Fifth grade reading range is T - W.

● T - W books have the complexity to push a child’s learning - no matter what their level.

● Some books in the X - Z range have themes beyond a 5th grade student’s grasp.

● I want students to choose books that THEY want to read. The goal is for all students to move forward, and LOVE reading.

Eureka Homework● The problems can be quite challenging! That is a good

thing!

● The greatest learning comes with some productive struggle!

● Resources:

○ Problem Set problems - similar to Homework problems

○ Student Math Journal - basic examples and rules

○ My website - videos for each lesson (5-8 minutes)

○ “The Homework Helper” book - $15 (order it from my website)

Homework● ONLY office papers sent in White E, NOT GRADES● About 50 minutes per night ● Different students = different speeds & different

amounts accomplished in class● Typical Night

○ Math○ Reading - at least 20 minutes per night○ Studying for upcoming tests (~1 week’s notice)○ Writing or Wordly Wise (if not finished in class)○ Preparing for Scholar Speaks○ Kidblog writing/ tasks

Homework● Neat and complete● Required. Students who don’t do homework:

○ will not be prepared for class the next day○ Will not advance as quickly. Learning is

cumulative○ A generic “FYI” email will be sent home notifying

parents if a pattern of missing/incomplete homework develops

● Online homework is real :) ○ Passwords are recorded in student agenda

● To be done independently - if possible. Don’t rush to the “rescue.” Encourage self-help strategies.○ Please do check to see that it is completed!
