ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
Guiding questions for learning at home:
● What types of books do you like to read? What topics do you enjoy reading about?● What do you like to write about? Are there stories you haven’t finished telling yet?● Have you had a special experience you could write about? What do you want to learn more about?
Take advantage of the following learning opportunities daily:● Spend 30 minutes per day reading, both silently and aloud to a parent/guardian, sibling...or your dog!● Parents/Guardians, spark conversation with questions like these:
○ Who is the main character? Would you be friends with him or her? Why? ○ What is the major problem in the story? ○ Does the story remind you of anything you’ve experienced or read about before? Explain.
● Practice learning the meaning and spelling of grade-level words.● Help your child learn the meaning of a word when a prefix (beginning) or suffix (ending) is added to a
known word (heat/preheat, care/careless).● Write about experiences you have had or would like to have, or topics you know about or would like
to know more about.● Focus on writing complete sentences, grouping sentences into paragraphs, and elaborating with
facts, reasons, and/or details.

Mathematics Activities for 5th
EVSD Teaching and Learning, 2020
Fifth grade families, thank you for taking the time to invest with us in you child’s mathematical future. Here are just a few points of reference. Since different schools are at different points in the Go Math Curriculum, we are starting with adding and subtracting fractions. This may be new content for some students or a good review for others. The Reteach lessons are skills reviews or can help teach the lesson if the content is new. The interactive student edition is also quite helpful in guiding kids through new learning as they can check their work and get guidance when they are stuck. Students should try to complete a few things each day. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
