5th November: BONFIRE NIGHT
THE STORY GUY FAWKES
In 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes, a catholic man,
and his friends plan to kill King James I of England
because he is a protestant. This is called ‘The
Gunpowder Plot’. Guy Fawkes is caught hiding a lot
of explosive in the cellars of the Parliament . He is
put in prison and then he is killed with all his
friends.
BONFIRE NIGHT TRADITIONS
On Bonfire Night, the children create their own Guy Fawkes , a puppet with stuff and straw, and put
him on the bonfire. There are many fireworks in the sky in London and through Great Britain to
celebrate Guy Fawkes’ death. They eat baked
potatoes, toffee apples and sausages.
There is a poem to say: Remember,
Remember the 5th of November Gunpowder,
treason and plot, I see no reason why
gunpowder and treason Should ever be forgot
