a Refit the cabin filter.

Foreign bodies (leaves, insects etc.) are likely toaccumulate in the passenger compartment filter.

Remove the cabin filter with care so as to preventforeign bodies getting into the evaporator.

a Pull out the front left-hand air distribution duct at (4) .

REFITTINGa Proceed in the reverse order to removal.

a Move aside the engine compartment bulkheadsoundproofing.

a Remove the bolts (1) from the pipe unions on the ex-pansion valve.

a Disconnect the expansion valve pipes.

a Fit plugs into the openings.

a Fit hose clamps (Ms. 583) at (2) .

a Remove the clips (3) from the heater hoses.

a Disconnect the heater hoses.

IMPORTANT

Consult the safety and cleanliness advice andoperation recommendations before carrying outany repair (see Air conditioning: Precautionsfor the repair) .

Note:

Use blanking plugs for the fuel circuits with partnumbers 77 01 208 229 or 77 01 476 857 to plugany openings exposed to the open air. They mustbe clean. Do not use any which have alreadybeen used to plug a fuel circuit.

In order to avoid any refrigerant leaks, do notdamage (deform, twist, etc.) the pipe.

To prevent moisture from entering the system,place plugs on the cold loop components whichare open to the air.

- the passenger compartment blower unit,

- the passenger compartment blower unit controlunit,

- the heater matrix pipes,

- the heater matrix,

- the evacuation ring.

a Remove the expansion valve.

a Remove the heating resistors.

I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

a Check that the parts are in good condition and re-place any defective parts, if necessary.

a Always replace the seals between the heater matrixpipes and the heater matrix.

a Refit on the distribution unit:


- the heater matrix pipes,

- the passenger compartment fan assembly controlunit,

- the passenger compartment blower unit,

- the air mixing cable,

- the air distribution cable,

- the air recirculation control cable,

- the trim kit,

- the evacuation ring,

- the control panel.

a Refit the heating resistors.

a Refit the expansion valve.

II - REFITTING OPERATION

a Refit the distribution unit.

a Connect the C-pillar air distribution ducts onto thedistribution unit.

a Refit:

- the dashboard cross member (see Dashboardcross member: Removal - Refitting) (42A, Upperfront structure),

- the distribution unit bolts.

a Connect:

- the connector of the passenger compartment fanassembly resistor unit,

- the passenger compartment fan assembly connec-tor,

- the air conditioning control panel connector.

a Refit the floor carpet.

a Connect the heating resistor connector.

a Refit:

- the heating resistor relay mounting,

- the heating resistor relay mounting bolt.

a Clip on:

- the starter switch connector on its mounting.

- the wiring at (6) .

a Clip:

- the wiring on the distribution unit at (5) ,

- the wiring at (4) .

a Refit:

- the steering column (see Steering column: Re-moval - Refitting) (36A, Steering assembly),

- the front air distribution ducts (see 61A, Heating,Front air distribution duct: Removal - Refitting,page 61A-9) ,







- the driver's front airbag (see Driver's frontal air-bag: Removal - Refitting) (88C, Airbags and seatbelt pretensioners).

a Connect the heater hoses.

a Refit the clips on the heater hoses.

a Remove the hose clamps (Ms. 583).

a Replace the seals.

a Lubricate the seals using recommended air condi-tioning oil to make fitting easier.

a Fit the pipe unions on the expansion valve.

a Refit the pipe union bolts on the expansion valve.

a Position the engine compartment bulkhead sound-proofing.

a Consult the refrigerant and oil quantity values beforefilling the circuit (see 62A, Air conditioning, Airconditioning: Parts and consumables for the re-pair, page 62A-9) .

a Fill the refrigerant circuit using the refrigerantcharging station (see Refrigerant circuit: Drain-ing - Filling) .

a Check for leaks (see Refrigerant circuit: Check) .

a Check that the air conditioning is operating correctly(see Air conditioning: Check) .

a Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refit-ting) (80A, Battery).


a Fill the cooling circuit (see Cooling system: Drain-ing - Refilling) (19A, Cooling).

a Bleed the cooling circuit (see Cooling system:Draining - Refilling) (19A, Cooling).

a Position the floor carpet.

a Connect the heating resistor connector.

a Refit:

- the heating resistor relay mounting,

- the starter switch connector on its mounting.

- the wiring onto the strut.

a Use a compressed air gun to blow the surface andthe seal of the connecting pipe.
