Almost every convention of the Nationa lInterfraternity Council brings at least oneresolution for the elimination of rest r ictiveclauses and it is consistently blocked by fan-atic southern colleges who want no "niggers "

The will of UBC students may be serve din the acclamation of Walt Ewing as treas-urer for 1949-50, he probably would have wo nthe job in an election anyway . This last few years an attempt has bee n

trade to divide the United States and Canad a

into districts with delegates from each dis-

trict representing all the fraternities in thei r

section .

The movement gained momentum thi s

year with the establishment of a Wester n

regional district, a Southern district and a

Central district . If these representatives can

break the southern bloc the discriminatory

clauses have an excellent chance of bein g

eliminated .

Ii would, of course, be impossible for thi s

I1'I)L' of convention to make any individua l

ch(,rter amendments hut their suggestion ,

coupled with public opinion should force

recalcitrant nationals to amend their con-

stitutions "or get out ."

It's strange indeed that Mr, Scott can se e

the "foam-flecked waters of the Gulf" so wel l

en some clays and can't see farther than th e

end of his nose on others .

by a handful of nominators and not by thos e

from whom he must expect co-operation nex t

year .

As treasurer this year of the Men's Ath-

letic Directorate he has the same background

as Paul Plant and undoubtedly will hold th e

purse strings as effectively as his predecessor .

But his position can only he weakened by th e

apathy which permitted him to slip almos t

unnoticed into office .

this weekend ,

CRUCIAL SERIE SThe series is a crucial for bot h

clubs. A double win or the Viking s

woulcl firmly leave them in fift hplace, while a double win for th e'Birds would vault then out of athree-way tie for the cellar.

Since both of the teams playin gtomorrow have hem abeut equall y

rated, it should be a reel hot tussl efrom the spectators ' point of view .

well in posting their narrow margin .coming from behind to tie the mee t

at the YMCA pool .

OVER-CONFIDEN TThe Varsity squad had been con-

fident of a but found they ha d

a fight on their hands when the "Y "

Individual stars Pete Lusztig, Do nMarshall and Hall Brodie posted wins

n their events. The splasherscounted with seconds and thirds i n

their events, however, which told the

talc when points were tallied .

For the girls' team, such standoutsas Margaret Cross, Sheila Stewar t

and Edith Scott supplied the necessar ypoints to raise the UBC team to a
