Special Teams Player of the Week D'Angelo Amos | PR | James Madison Amos returned ve punts for 125 yards (25.0 ypr) in JMU’s 38-10 victory at William & Mary. The junior had three punt returns over 20 yards, including a 49-yarder in the rst quarter that set up the Dukes’ rst touchdown. The 125 punt re- turn yards are the 4th-most by any player in FCS this season and 54 more than any player in the CAA. He also had 5 tackles and an intercepƟon. Rookie of the Week Joe Fagnano | QB | Maine In his rst collegiate start, Fagnano completed 25-of-37 passes for 445 yards and 5 TD's in Maine’s 59-44 setback at FBS foe Liberty. The 445 passing yards were the most by a Maine quarterback since 2009 and he was just the third Black Bear QB to throw for 5 TD’s since 2009. He had 469 yards of total oense, which was the most by any CAA player this season. Defensive Player of the Week Ron'Dell Carter | DL | James Madison Carter Ɵed a career-high with 10 tackles and set a new career mark with 6.0 tackles for loss (-31 yds) in JMU’s 38-10 triumph at William & Mary. The 6.0 TFL’s are Ɵed for the most by any FCS player this season and were part of 15.0 TFL’s by the JMU defense, which was its most in a game since 2006. Carter ranks 2nd naƟonally with 15.5 TFL’s for the season.

CONFERENCE NOTES:FIVE CONFERENCE GAMES ON WEEK 9 SCHEDULE: For the fi rst me this season, con-ference games make up the en re weekly schedule. The slate is headlined by a Top 25 ba le as No. 2 James Madison hosts No. 16 Towson. Also on the schedule, No. 5 Villanova entertains Stony Brook, Richmond visits No. 19 Delaware, Rhode Island is at home against Elon and William & Mary travels to Maine. UAlbany and New Hampshire are off this week.

CAA GAMES PROVIDE PLENTY OF EXCITEMENT: Twelve of the 21 CAA games played this season have been decided by eight points or less, including three over me contests. On Oct. 7, JMU edged Stony Brook, 45-38 in over me a er the Seawolves kicked a game-tying fi eld goal with fi ve seconds le . On Sept. 29, Stony Brook edged Rhode Island, 31-27, on Tyquell Fields’ 50-yard TD run with 11 seconds to play. On Sept. 21, Villanova edged Towson, 52-45 in over me, and New Hampshire got past Rhode Island, 27-24, on a fi eld goal as me expired. Delaware pulled out a 36-33 triple OT win at Rhode Island on Sept. 7.

HOME NOT SO SWEET: Road teams have had a lot of success in CAA play this season. Through 21 games, visi ng teams have a 12-9 record.

RECORD-SETTING SATURDAY: Towson quarterback Tom Flacco and receiver Shane Leath-erbury set school records in last week's 56-7 win over Bucknell. Flacco set a new TU mark by throwing six TD passes, while Leatherbury ed TU and CAA records with fi ve TD recep- ons. Even more impressively, the duo set the marks while only playing in the fi rst half.

MAINE'S FAGNANO EARNS GOLDEN HELMET: Maine freshman quarterback Joe Fagnano received the Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers Associa on as the top weekly performer among New England's Division I football programs. Making his fi rst collegiate start at FBS foe Liberty, Fagnano completed 25-of-37 passes for 445 yards and 5 touchdowns. The 445 passing yards were the most by a Maine QB since 2009.

STRONG PERFORMANCE IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY: CAA Football teams are 24-6 (.800) against non-conference FCS foes this season, which is the best of any conference. The league compiled a 22-9 (.710) record against non-conference FCS compe on last year and went 26-6 (.813) in non-conference games against FCS opponents in 2017.

FOUR CAA TEAMS RANKED NATIONALLY THIS WEEK: Four CAA Football teams are ranked in this week's STATS and AFCA Coaches Top 25 Polls. In the STATS poll, JMU is ranked No. 2, followed by No. 5 Villanova, No. 16 Towson and No. 19 Delaware. The AFCA poll in-cludes No. 2 JMU, No. 6 Villanova, No. 18 Towson and No. 19 Delaware. The four ranked teams are the 2nd-most of any FCS conference. Four other CAA teams - Stony Brook, New Hampshire, UAlbany and Elon - were among other teams receiving votes in the STATS poll. Seven CAA teams have been na onally ranked at some point this season and all 12 have received votes in the Top 25 poll.

URI'S PARKER CLIMBS CAREER LISTS: Rhode Island's Aaron Parker became just the second player in school history to go over 3,000 receiving yards (3,074) last Saturday. He also moved into third place in career recep ons (190) at URI and he's third in career TD catches (28). This season, Parker leads the CAA with 55 recep ons for 838 yards.

FIVE CAA PLAYERS EARN NATIONAL HONORS: Five CAA players have earned FCS Na onal Player of the Week honors from STATS this season. JMU's John Daka (Defense/Oct. 14) was the most recent award winner, joining New Hampshire's Oleh Manzyk (Freshman/Oct. 7), Maine’s Earnest Edwards (Special Teams/Sept. 22), Elon's Marcus Willoughby (Defense/Sept. 9) and Villanova's Jaquan Amos (Defense/Sept. 2).

TAKING IT TO THE HOUSE: CAA teams have combined to return nine kickoff s for TD's this season. W&M's Bronson Yoder and Maine's Earnest Edwards share the na onal lead with two KOR’s for touchdowns. Also returning kickoff s for TD’s have been URI’s Ahmere Dorsey, UAlbany’s Donovan McDonald, Elon’s Shamari Wingard, JMU’s Devin Ravenel and Towson's D'Ago Hunter. Eight of the nine returns have been longer than 90 yards.

TOWSON’S O’NEILL CLOSES IN ON CAA FG MARK: Towson All-America kicker Aidan O’Neill has 57 career fi eld goals, which is two shy of the CAA all- me record of 59 set by W&M’s Greg Kuehn (2002-05). O’Neill is 4-for-8 on fi eld goals this season.

UNH’S MCDONNELL TAKES LEAVE OF ABSENCE: New Hampshire head coach Sean Mc-Donnell is taking an indefi nite leave of absence for health-related reasons. McDonnell, who has a 154-95 record in 20 seasons at UNH, guided the team to 14 straight FCS playoff appearances and ranks third all- me with 98 wins in CAA play. Associate head coach Ricky Santos has been named the team’s interim head coach.

SUCCESS AGAINST THE FBS: CAA Football has posted 38 wins over FBS foes in its history and has won at least one game against an FBS team in 11 of the past 13 years. Since 2013, seven diff erent teams (UAlbany, JMU, Maine, New Hampshire, Richmond, Towson and Villanova) have recorded a FBS victory and the league posted mul ple wins over FBS opponents in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

JMU PICKED TO WIN CAA TITLE: James Madison, which returns 19 starters from last year’s 9-4 team that earned a FCS playoff berth for the fi h straight season, was the overwhelm-ing choice to win the CAA Football tle in 2019. Towson, which is coming off its fi rst FCS playoff appearance since 2013, was picked second in the poll, while defending CAA Football champion Maine placed third. Elon, Delaware and Stony Brook, which all made the FCS playoff s last year, took the next three spots in the preseason poll. New Hampshire was seventh, followed by Rhode Island, Villanova, Richmond, William & Mary and UAlbany.

TOWSON’S FLACCO, RICHMOND’S JACKSON HEADLINE PRESEASON ALL-CAA TEAM: Towson quarterback Tom Flacco was chosen as the CAA preseason Off ensive Player of the Year, while Richmond defensive end Maurice Jackson was selected as the CAA pre-season Defensive Player of the Year. Flacco passed for a league-high 3,251 yards and a school-record tying 28 TD’s last season and also ran for 742 yards and four scores. Jackson recorded 46 tackles, 15.0 TFL, a league-high 10.0 sacks and four forced fumbles. The en re preseason All-CAA team can be found in this release.

FIVE FROM CAA ON NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR WATCH LISTS: CAA Football had fi ve players named to STATS FCS Preseason Player of the Year Watch Lists. Towson senior quar-terback Tom Flacco, Rhode Island senior wide receiver Aaron Parker and Towson senior running back Shane Simpson made the Walter Payton Award Watch List (top off ensive player). Maine senior cornerback Manny Pa erson and James Madison senior cornerback Rashad Robinson were on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch list (top defensive player).

CAA MAKES HISTORY WITH SIX TEAMS IN PLAYOFF FIELD: CAA Football made history in 2018 with six teams selected to the 24-team fi eld for the Division I Football Championship, a feat that had never been accomplished by any conference. CAA champ Maine, which earned the #7 overall seed, was joined by Delaware, Elon, JMU, Stony Brook and Towson. CAA Football’s previous record for playoff teams was fi ve, which occurred in 2007, 2008 and 2011. Four CAA teams were chosen to the playoff fi eld in the prior four seasons.

DEEPEST CONFERENCE IN FCS: No conference has proven to be as strong from top to bo om as CAA Football in recent years. Ten of the league’s 12 teams have par cipated in the FCS playoff s since 2015. The conference has had at least one team reach the quar-terfi nals every year since 1991.

MULTIPLE TEAMS IN THE FCS PLAYOFFS: CAA Football has had mul ple teams in the playoff s for 28 straight years and three or more teams in the playoff fi eld for 13 years in a row. Ten mes in league history at least four teams were chosen. Five teams were picked in 2007, 2008 and 2011 and the CAA set a record with six teams selected in 2018.

PLAYOFF SUCCESS: Since 2003, CAA Football has had a team in the FCS tle game 10 mes, with four diff erent schools combining to win fi ve na onal tles - Delaware (2003), JMU (2004, 2016), Richmond (2008) and Villanova (2009).
