Traders associated with Prayag Vyapar Mandal too claimed that sa- le of diyas made of clay would to- uch a new high this Deepawali as those dealing in traditional eart- hen, designer and metallic diyas have already placed huge orders. Potters in Naini, Manda, Bha- ratganj, Dighiya, Rajapur and adjo- ining areas have taken to making earthen diyas on a large scale ho- ping to break all previous records. Naini and Manda potters claimed, “Traders from city have already placed their orders since citizens are choosing clay diyas over facto- ry or China-made.” Prayag Vyapar Mandal presi- dent Vijay Arora said, “Despite av- ailability of Chinese decorative items, including light series, custo- mers are asking specifically for tra- ditional and designer diyas to cele- brate Diwali.” He said drive to boy- cott Chinese products has undoub- tedly made an impact on the market as sale of Chinese decorati- ve has dipped 40%. Traders had already stocked Chinese decorative items and lights prior to the boycott but re- cently, several organisations cam- paigned against Chinese products and exhorted citizens to promote indigenous decorative items, espe- cially diyas.
